Key West is a romantic destination with hints of nostalgia. Images of Ernest Hemingway hunched over a typewriter come to mind as well as black-and-white frames of Bogie and Bacall. Heron House, a AAA Four-Diamond Award inn, is another quintessential element of the Florida Keys. Originally built between 1856 and 1860, the hideaway recaptures the southern charm and genteel way of life. There are 23 elegantly crafted rooms and suites, with no two alike, offering a tapestry of tropical appointments. Hunker down in a bed made of rattan cloaked in colorful fabrics, with granite-trimmed bathrooms and original watercolor paintings. Some rooms feature stained-glass transom windows, wooden walls crafted by skilled artisans, or private decks and balconies festooned with leafy plants.

Upon reading reviews I was a little skeptical. I went ahead and booked and I was able To get it for less than $200 a night, so that’s where I’m Coming from. For that price I thought the hotel/room were fine. Yes a little updates are needed but it was clean, quite and at a great location to Duval street And its activities. Everyone was friendly, Patrick was very helpful upon checking and helped carry my wife’s luggage on the flight of stairs to our room. We would definitely stay again.

Great location and ambience . Bathrooms a little outdated but clean. Loved the area and atmosphere. Breakfast was acceptable . Pool was nice. They have bike rental on property .We had a little mouse visit in our room. Hopefully they can exterminate this problem.

We loved it. Individualistic, stylish rooms, everything worked, a good breakfast included, and a terrific location, very near Duval St. and yet quiet. Would definitely stay there again. Staff was helpful. Not your cookie-cutter hotel room; it had character.

Upon heck-in we were met by an incredibly nice man Sean. There were 6 of us in our party and the check-in was seamless. If I had to rate our experience at that point it would have been a 5. Unfortunately, we were shocked at the condition of our rooms (3 of them) and the overall condition of the hotel. When we opened our doors the smell of bleach was overwhelming. The website photos are NOT at all a testament to the hotel. Amenities listed on the site were not in our rooms i.e. Robes, docking stations etc. The furniture in the room photos was not what was in our rooms. The loveseat in our rooms was filthy and I would not suggest anyone sit on it. The sheets had stains on them, some of the lightbulbs were burnt out, the blinds were missing the rods (you could not open them) the dimmer knob on lights was missing the knobs, grout in the rooms was outright gross. The TV was a 27", and the pillows and mattress were hard as a rock. Our porch furniture cushions were very stained. At $500+ per night, we had higher expectations. The pool area had only 2 lounges and minimal seating. The potted plants on the upper deck had been dead for some time. The painted Adirondack chairs were peeling and wobbly, and the stairs and decking had nails popping up. These conditions we found in all of our rooms and unacceptable. The location was fantastic but the property needs an overhaul.

First the pluses. Good location. Quiet hotel probably in part because it was windy and chilly so nobody was in the pool right by our room. But at night it was calm too Bed was comfortable. Breakfast was basic with some good coffee and fresh fruit and baked goods or cereal. The pool looked lovely and seems well maintained Pool deck and the front porch are nice. WiFi was good. There are two sweet cats who live on site. The people who work here are very lovely. Trent is a gem and was very helpful when I had questions. Patrick was great as well. Really our room needed a big overhaul. Old sloppy gray caulking an inch thick smeared all along the floor/door frame, stained comforter, dripping shower, fan switch that doesn’t work. Shabby wicker furniture. Blinds that don’t quite cover the entire window Bring a sleep mask. Hinges on bathroom door were solid rust. It was a large room. The AC worked well but we only needed it one day for a few minutes. At this price point I do think you’re hard pressed to find a place that’s ideal, but the room could have been a bit better.
