Ocean Key has been our go to Key West resort of choice for around 20 years. Its a classy resort in a prime location adjacent to Mallory Square. All the staff are highly attentive and welcoming and work hard to make your stay memorable. The lobby area is being completely renovated and extended and has added to the sense of luxury given that the bedrooms have also been refreshed over the past few years. The pricing reflects the quality so if you are looking for an upmarket stay in Key West, give Ocean Key Resort a try.

We'd have loved to start a 5/5 review with "it's pricey, but...", instead we're writing this: we don't mind splurging on hotels, so we booked our deluxe oceanfront room two months in advance on the hotel's website, at a total cost north of USD 1'500 for one night. The room itself was recently renovated and in good condition, minibar well stocked (plus 20% service charge and tax, of course), yet with only one window, a bit dark. We were placed on the floor directly at pool level, with parts of our ocean view obstructed by the wall of the hotel's restaurant. When we mentioned this, the reply was "you should have asked for a high floor when making the reservation." Well, thanks, that's why we mentioned it was a special occasion to celebrate and had some e-mails going back and forth in advance. Don't get us wrong, we didn't expect a free upgrade, but certainly not the room in this category that nobody really wants. Still, at USD 600–700 per night, this would be a perfectly fine Key West waterfront hotel, given the view. However, at more than USD 1'500, it's a lot about perceived value - and there it fell short. A "great that you're celebrating your special occasion with us, here are a couple of drink vouchers while you enjoy the sunset" or some other gesture would have gone a long way, instead of a standard check-in procedure. The service was overall 4*, the property shows its age in places, and the room assignment felt random for a guest who booked well ahead at rack rate. Out of curiosity, we checked their website: plenty of room categories were listed as available that night (and with higher categories at lower rates). On the bright side: breakfast was good, and the bar staff were super friendly and genuinely welcoming. Those small things stood out - which, in a way, only highlights how much the overall experience fell short at this price point.

Great hotel in the best location in Key West! Staff was friendly and helpful and the room was clean and comfortable. We'll definitely go back! Malia, who was tending bar at the Sweet Bird in the hotel, is FANTASTIC!!!!! One of the best bartenders EVER!!!!!!

This is our third time in 16 months for this resort. We came back to Ocean Key for our 45th anniversary and were very pleased with the staff, resort overall. Alex was the first person we met upon arriving and after he loaded our bags onto the cart, Craig came over and welcomed us back to the resort, and said it was good to see us back. It's a great thing when they remember past guest. Now the construction/remodeling is just about finished and we knew all about that before planning this trip so no issues with us on that. Now one of the pluses for us is the location that this place is at, close to all the action, great restaurants all close to this location. The pool area has great view of the cruise ships leaving in the afternoon and the pool staff takes great care in making sure your taken care of with great service. The places we had dinner at that we'd recommend: Hot Tin for our anniversary (very good) El Mason at Mallory Square, Conch Republic seafood, First Flight, we did have dinner over at Two Friends but service was sub par don't know if it was the wait staff having a bad day but it was ok let's not do this again. One of our favorite stops is Papa Pilar rum distillery and backroom for some beverages. there's many more places we wanted to got to but for a six night stay we were limited and yes there are places we visited but didn't list here. Cuban coffee Queen has very good breakfast and would recommend
