A roach was in my room

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

The property was beautiful and well maintained from the outside. Upon my arrival, I was greeted very kindly and this was on July 3. On July 4 my room was not cleaned and I was gone all day. I went to a cooking class and brought the dinner back so that I can enjoy it at my leisureupon returning to the sitting area after warming up my food. I noticed something moving on the plate. It was a huge roach. It had to be well over an inch in length. Upon returning to the sitting area after warming up my food. I noticed something moving on the plate. It was a huge roach. It had to be well over a inch in length. It did not run or retreat, and it was not afraid of me. I am afraid of bugs and called the front desk. Immediately the concierge heard my concern heard me say that I was afraid and laughed and asked me what I wanted him to do. I was shocked and appalled. I asked him to have someone in management, give me a call. I hung up the phone and texted the check-in text that I had and asked to speak to a manager immediately. The manager did call she listened to my concerns. She apologized and she sent someone over to attend to the issue. I thought the bug would have been gone and retreated the big roach was still in my food, eating and that housekeeper allowed me to go outside of the unit while she killed the bug wrapped up the food placed it in a trash bag and disposed of it. They also sent someone who put pesticide in the room around the door and other areas to ensure that no other bugs would immediately come in. The manager stated it could be because of the rain that the roach came inside. I find this to be unacceptable because I travel all of the time to southern locations with lots of rain and have never seen a roach that big enter into a unit that was not dark and stay there without being afraid. Roaches are nocturnal and I was afraid the entire trip that I would wake up to roaches back in the kitchen area or in the living area or in the room with me and shook my clothes out every day I could not sleep, and I could not rest because of this while the hotel did comp me my fees for the resort did not comp me anything for the hotel stay at all. Additionally, the soap dispenser in the shower was broke, and there were a long hair around the perimeter of the shower stall I found this to be unacceptable as well for the price that I paid to stay at this location. I also did not bring any food to eat inside the room when I consume the food. I ate on the deck and took the wrappings outside to dispose of in the trash because again I was afraid that I was going to have more roaches and also afraid that I was going to take roaches home with me and did not want to do that.

Pretty on the outside

Beautiful resort. As we came up to the property we were both impressed. We were checked in, given drill on the property and went to our room. As we got settled in we both noticed how dirty the room was. The white walls, the floor boards, doors, etc… all need a good clean down, maybe some magic erasers?! Idk but it was very obvious and gross. And then we noticed the black mold as we were sitting there on our beds watching tv. The mold is on the ceiling, in several places. My friend has horrible asthma and is also allergic to many things, but we were able to stick it out without complaining. On our vacation we stayed in 5 different establishments, and every one has its pro’s and con’s. We are pretty easy going about stuff but we both agreed that for the “resort price” we and others pay, this should not be the case. You would expect attention to those things. Which also brings me to this; when we were giving the “drill” upon checking in, it was asked if we had a car. The front desk clerk then explained that there was a shuttle from the hotel to town if we would rather not drive the car. At NO Point was it mentioned a $24 a day parking fee if you had a car. Nor did they mention a $50 a day RESORT fee when she was going into detail about kayaks, and bikes being assessable to us for 2 hrs daily, while handing us an activity calendar for guests. Given the ideal opportunities, it felt very shady. An extra $75 a day is a lot. And of course it’s too late at that point to change course; but it should still be transparent. On a positive note; Beds are comfy, and they have a pillow for each need. A soft, hard and medium.

Never Wanted to Leave

Had a lovely suite and it was amazing. It was clean, comfortable and literally huge. The staff at every point was there to please you with a smile on their face or in their voice. Anything/anytime, just ask. Plenty of great activities. Even with others coming and going, it was never over packed. Plus with 6 pools, you could meet people or get away as you desired. Yoga every other day (which we don't normally do) but it was a great way to start our days. Did something different every day. Thought the restaurant was a bit over priced for what it was, especially with a short shuttle ride to Key West and all the restaurants you could ever want. But only had a breakfast there and it was great but we could of had filet and lobster for the price of an omelet and eggs Benedict. Just a little shocked. Other than that near perfection.
