With 148 Conch-style waterfront and garden view rooms, suites and cottages, recently revamped Parrot Key Resort is the epitome of a classic dignified beach community just off the bustling Key West Duval Street and Historic Old Town. The property encompasses 5 acres of neatly landscaped tropical grounds, an internationally acclaimed sculpture garden and swaying palm trees. Mangroves and bougainvillea skirt the powdery beach, which edges the Gulf of Mexico. Gleaming white trim, picket fences and comfy porches with colorful Adirondack chairs made for leisurely lounging set the bucolic tone. Extra roomy accommodations are decorated in cheery pastels with chic handmade wooden furniture and wicker loungers. Notwithstanding the nostalgic beach cottage atmosphere, tech amenities abound in each room: there is property-wide complimentary wireless high-speed Internet access, a flat-screen television, DVD player and premium cable service. Bathrooms have walk-in showers and original artwork adorns the walls.

The Parrot Key Hotel was wonderful, very homey quaint atmosphere. The entire staff was wonderful and efficient. I truly never saw a hotel where everyone was so kind and accommodating. The shuttle is totally an asset, so convenient and the driver full of information about things to see and do we didn't know about. The restaurant/bar is great in the middle near the pools. They have great food & drinks again wonderful friendly staff. Having never been to the Keys, everything was an unknown, we really got lucky we could not have chosen a better more convenient place to stay. I now know the value of parking there, which I didn't understand totally. We had our own little back porch, sand and hammock, bottle of chilled wine in the room, perfect relaxation at the end of the day of doing and seeing everything we could in Key West. Parrot Key was totally a Gem, I would go back in a heart beat.

The location was perfect as it sets in. It’s quite a little area, it’s super vibe and cute it sure to please. The rooms were a little disappointing because the bathrooms could’ve been cleaner and the carpet.. then we found some termites on our curtains and our bed however, they did come out swiftly to treat the area, but said they didn’t find anything. I have pictures and videos so there’s definitely something there that needs to be addressed overall I’d give it a hard 3.8.. and this is because of the follow up afterwards no one ever reached back out to us about the bug problem. We spent a lot of our money to have our 30th wedding anniversary celebration and it was definitely unexpected guest at our party. Unfortunately.

Things I liked about Parrot Key: Spacious suite with good sized bathroom Good storage and good number of coat hangers (one of my pet hates is hotels who don’t give you enough hangers) New water bottles every day - some hotels just give you one at the start and that’s it. The pools’ temperature - one is fairly cool but the others were super warm, which I happen to like but my husband wasn’t so keen The roosters ambling through the property (mind you they’re everywhere in Key West) The grounds are nicely landscaped Our room faced the sunset. Don’t bother going to Mallory Square as the sun sets behind an island so you can’t see it go below the horizon. Things I didn’t like The location - I spent ages checking reviews and looking at maps but clearly didn’t appreciate how far the hotel is from the centre of things. It’s next to and opposite two strip malls. Handy to catch up on your pharmacy shopping but not ever atmospheric. You definitely can’t walk which means either a taxi, driving (parking is expensive and until midnight) or take the shuttle - BUT… The shuttle stops in the evening - yes it goes back at 7 and 9 but the last one into town is at 4.30 so if you want to go back to the hotel to shower and the head into town for dinner you can’t use it. The valet parking is ridiculous and a totally money-grabbing exercise. $30 to have someone park your car in the parking lot which is right next door to the hotel. It’s not remotely convenient as they keep your car key and you have to wait while they fetch the car. We are perfectly capable of parking our own car. Valet parking is usually done when the parking lot is some distance from the hotel. People have complained about this before - listen up management!! It’s ludicrous and immediately makes me suspicious about what sort of hotel you run. The housekeeping was cursory at best and very late the first day we were there. If you’re Katie top dollar for the room you expect decent housekeeping. They made the bed and replaced the towels and that was it until the last day when they did a good job for some reason. The shower was weak The bed was old - the mattress has a hump between the two sides. The pillows were too small and too hard. The staff could have been friendlier, especially the concierge who didn’t seem terribly interested in people. Sorry Parrot Key but you charge too much for what is just a fairly average hotel; and to add insult to injury we have to pay a $51 “resort fee”. It’s just not good enough value.

The hotel is excellent, the room is large, it has high-quality amenities, the bed is comfortable, and the staff is very helpful. When I return to Key West, I intend to stay there again.

My wife and I really enjoyed the resort! We will definitely be back and hopefully it is sooner rather than later. Until next time.
