Located south of Bangkok in the "Land of Smiles," the picturesque island of Koh Samui is home to some of the world's most beautiful beaches, temperate rainforests, and stunning shorelines. With the addition of Banyan Tree Samui, Koh Samui is now home to the "Best New Beach Resort Hotel" as named by the elite Condé Nast Traveller Hot List 2011. The resort's breathtaking exterior rises above the shimmering Gulf of Thailand amidst cascading treetop terraces on an isolated hill cove. Banyan Tree Samui boasts an all villa-resort; each generously proportioned living space impressively combines aspects of traditional Thai-style architecture with modern planning and design, such as the steep, raised rooftops, striking floor-to-ceiling windows, and its own elevated, private pool. The beautiful, expansive grounds are surrounded by the lush, aromatic foliage of the region, making it the picture perfect backdrop for every celebration of life: birthdays, weddings, romantic getaways, and everything in between.

Yet another week at this beautiful resort for our third consecutive year, we've just landed in Belgium and we already miss you! :) GREAT THINGS: - Beauty of the entire resort, perfectly designed and maintained. - The extraordinary service of its staff, professional and caring, particularly with our son Nico :) - Attention to details. - Quality and diversity of the breakfast. - The accommodation (villa with pool). - Trying to deliver beyond expectations. Congratulations to the staff and management of Banyan Tree, you are one of the best hotels in Koh Samui! Our particular gratitude goes to Apple, the resort director, always caring and attemptive to make sure our stay was perfect from the beginning till the end; Dada our "Villa Host", she took care of every detail; Charlenne my masseuse was also great! Thanks also to Bikram fro his yoga sessions, the perfect way to start the day in great mood! Looking forward to our Summer stay in 2026! :)

Cannot recommend enough and state how happy we were on our break at Banyan Tree Koh Samui. The staff were incredible and a special shout out for Pim, who looked after us throughout. Highly recommended and we will absolutely return one day.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. We flew over 15 hours to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary expecting a tropical paradise. What we found was a hotel left to ruin. It’s clear that management is cutting corners to save every penny. If you are looking for a luxury stay, good food, and a nice beach, it’s not what you’re getting. We felt completely tricked by the false advertising and positive reviews. My advice if you’re really set on going to Koh Samui and want a proper luxury villa experience: go to the Four Seasons. Main disappointments of our stay at the Banyan Tree Samui: - No one contacted us before our stay to plan our arrival (transport, activities, etc). - No special attention for special occasions- they simply didn’t ask… - The beach is completely unusable. It is full of coral and rocks up to the board, and the sand is coarse. - The food and beverage is horrendous. The quality was below par in all outlets: at the beach restaurant, the fine dining Saffron, and the breakfast (even simple things the eggs, coffee, pizza, or thai green curry were not good). There was no real lobby lounge or bar to enjoy. The lobby lounge is a sterile environment and not always open. The pool bar was a joke with some alcohol bottles scattered on a counter, and somewhat dirty behind the bar. - The infrastructure is dated. You will find old broken or chipped wooden furniture, 3* hotel quality bedding, crooked plastic light switches all over the villa with labels printed and stuck on them. Overall the hotel was missing the refinement and comfort which is expected at this price range. - They didn’t do much to prevent or protect guests from mosquitoes. After we made a request, they left us basic citronella oil, which did not work. We got devoured by mosquitoes and had to go to the pharmacy to buy proper repellent. Eventually they installed a mosquito net over the bed on our last night… as a reference point we went to the four seasons afterwards and they went OUT OF THEIR WAY to make sure guests were safe and protected (repellent on all beaches and outlets, lighting fires throughout the property, keeping the property clean). At the Banyan Tree, none of this was taken care of. - Landscaping was not great throughout the property, areas under the villas lacked hygiene, probably contributing to the mosquito issues.
