The Briza Beach Resort

Review: The Briza Beach Resort, Chaweng, Thailand I booked a three-night stay at The Briza Beach Resort via Booking.com but checked out after just one night. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations for several serious reasons: 1. Health & Safety Concerns (Plunge Pools) My biggest concern was the potential risk of Legionella. The private plunge pool outside the room did not smell of chlorine, and there were no visible maintenance or sanitation records displayed. Given there had been a recent power cut, I strongly suspect the pumps and filtration systems may be turned off at times to save electricity. In Thailand, pool sanitation information is typically required to be displayed—even for smaller pools—so this raised significant concerns. 2. Misleading “Beach Resort” Advertising The hotel is marketed as a beach resort, with images on Booking.com and its own website showing families enjoying a beachfront setting. However, there is no actual beach access at the property. The nearest beach is approximately 800 meters away via a main road, and access may require using another hotel. This is highly misleading. Additionally, some promotional imagery appears to be generic stock photos rather than reflecting the actual property. 3. Layout & Facilities The pool and lounging areas are in separate locations and not very convenient. There is a small pool bar with a very friendly and professional barman (a positive note). The property involves a lot of steps and steep walking. Overall, the hotel feels run down and in need of maintenance. 4. Breakfast Quality Breakfast was poor—low quality with limited options. It was also unusual to see staff eating from the buffet during service. 5. Booking Experience Despite these issues, I received no refund for the unused nights. Booking.com sided with the hotel, which was extremely disappointing given the discrepancies between marketing and reality. Further Action Due to the seriousness of the health and safety concerns, as well as what I believe to be misleading advertising, I am planning to raise this matter with the relevant authorities in Thailand, including the tourism ministry and health and safety regulators. Overall Due to safety concerns, misleading advertising, and poor overall quality, I would not recommend this hotel. I chose to leave early and forfeit the remaining nights for peace of mind.
