Welcome to The American Club Resort Hotel, a five-star, five-diamond hotel that has stood as an icon of gracious hospitality for over 100 years. Built in 1918 as a dormitory for single, male immigrant employees of Kohler, The American Club was reborn in 1981 as a five-star, five-diamond destination resort hotel. It retained its historic richness, storybook charm and a single level of quality that comes with everything bearing the Kohler name.

I stayed at The Carriage House at The American Club which I highly advise if you have spa appointments. The spa is in The Carriage House so you can just put a robe and slippers on in your room (they are stocked in the room closet) and walk down to your appointments. Most Carriage House guests can be found in robes and slippers throughout the day. The hotel is Tutor style so it's dark inside - dark woods, dark carpets and dim lights, with fires in the fireplaces which lends to a relaxing atmosphere. My room was very comfortable. It was large with a separate water closet and huge tub/shower/sink room. The bathtub was AMAZING, with the best jets for massage. Room service and housekeeping did an excellent job. They spoiled me with Kohler Chocolates every day. The spa was light and bright and worth every penny. The spa registration desk is fabulous. The staff are so knowledgable and kind. They work hard to take great care of every guest. I had a manicure, body exfoliation, facial and massage over the course of 2 days. Each service was amazing but my favorite was the sea lime sigh body exfoliation. I highly recommend it! In between services, I used the spa for their saunas (they have 2 - one is infrared, the other is traditional), steam room/cold plunge, whirlpools (they have 2 - one is on the rooftop, the other is in the main spa area), ice cave, locker rooms (which have beautiful showers/bathrooms/amenities) and their cozy relaxation chez lounges. The spa cafe and spa store are both excellent. I also walked a few blocks to the "Sports Core" and took a fitness class. They have TONS of offerings for every type of exercise you can imagine. On my walk back after my workout, I stopped at The Shops at Woodlake and found the best little boutiques. My favorite was "The Nest" a kitchen/home shop. For dinner the first night, I ate at The Wisconsin Room and had the best 1/2 chicken I've ever eaten. It was fabulous!! I want the recipe. The next night, I ate at the Horse and Plow pub which was just ok. And I had a smoothie from The Greenhouse on my last morning. which is a cute coffee shop located in The American Club. The ambiance is very french and it's stocked with lots of deliciousness. The only thing The American Club could've done better is helping me book my stay. The employee who booked everything was polite and kind but didn't know enough about the restaurants, the workout classes or the spa to be helpful. She just read off of the website when I asked her questions and I was already reading the website. It would be great if Kohler had booking agents that knew exactly what to point people to. For instance, the pilates class she booked for me wasn't really pilates (even though the Sports Core had reformers and other traditional pilates equipment and I specifically asked for a traditional pilates class). She just didn't know enough about it to get me in the right class. And she wasn't very helpful with restaurants either. For the price I paid, I expected booking agents with lots of knowledge. But all in all, it didn't really matter. I had a fabulous, relaxing 2 night stay and I hope to return soon.

Think twice before having an event here. We attended a wedding here. There were multiple events throughout the weekend that were on site at the resort. The American Club and sister venues do NOT accommodate dietary restrictions. While they may claim to accommodate, in reality they have no idea how to do this. We had to escalate food allergy requests to the general manager of the resort to be taken seriously, and even then, the venue messed up our allergy orders. Had we not been paying close attention to the food we were served, we would have had an allergic reaction as we were served food containing our allergens. To make matters worse, the venues decided it was necessary to keep the parents of the bride apprised of every mistake they were making DURING THE WEDDING EVENTS. Instead of dealing with us (the guests with the food allergies) and correcting the situation, the staff on multiple occasions interrupted the mother of the bride DURING the WEDDING RECEPTION to tell her that they accidentally served us our allergens. I have no idea why they were doing this other than to ruin the night for the mother of the bride. The mother of the bride could not fix the situation and then searched for us at the reception to apologize. We felt terrible that she was bothered with this during her daughter's wedding reception, especially since she could not fix the situation. We have been to a number of weddings at high-end resorts around the country, and I can say that this was the WORST experience we have had. Most high-end venues make accommodating dietary restrictions seamless; after all, many wedding guests have food allergies, celiac, diabetes, or other dietary restrictions or preferences. We were shocked that a "five-star" resort like Kohler would not be able to handle this. With regard to the rooms at the American Club, we were disappointed. The rooms are outdated and overpriced. The prices are perhaps reflective of the historical significance of the resort.

We truly loved our stay at the Carriage House at the American Club. There is so much character and charm. We loved the service and all of the extra touches that really put it over the top. We enjoyed breakfast in the Wisconsin room, a drink and scrabble in the library, and our cozy room (with the fantastic tub and shower of course! And fantastic comfortable beds. Wonderful housekeeping!). We will be back!

Great stay at the American Club! Lived up to the expectations. We're staying in MKE for a couple weeks and heading to American club for the weekend. It was suburb. The staff was incredible. We received a room upgrade from the AMEX FHR perk along with a bottle of win. We also loved the chocolate turtles. Having an in-demand shuttle was also great. We enjoyed the Kohler Design Center and tour. Loved this weekend. Only point of improvement: we didn't really care for the pub in the hotel. The breakfast and everything else was great.

Wonderful winter getaway! Everyone went out of their way to make our stay memorable. Enjoyed the history tour from the concierge, deep soaking tub in our room and relaxing day at the spa. Breakfast in the Wisconsin Room featured French pastries made on site and Sarah made delicious suggestions for our entrees. Dinner at Blackwolf lodge was very cozy, the pork chops were really good. Ended our stay with a stop at Frozen Fairways which was really beautiful, even tried our hand at curling! We were able to go midweek and take advantage of a number of specials. Highly recommend!
