Reviews for The American Club

Resort and Staff Incredible. Your 5 star shows!

We celebrated my birthday and our 40th wedding anniversary at The American Club. We received a complimentary room upgrade upon check in to a Heritage King room. Nice surprise. We arrived about an hour prior to check in time, and the room wasn’t ready yet but decided to walk the courtyards, grab a coffee from the Green House. Then took a walk to the newly remodeled Woodlake Market. A beautiful place, with many offerings. We returned to the inn and by this point it was almost 4:30. After not receiving a promised call or text message from anyone about our room, we inquired at the front desk. We had dinner reservations in The Wisconsin Room and were worried we’d not be able to clean up and change. The room was ready. But we were never notified. The desk staff were very apologetic for not having messaged us and keep us waiting. We used valet parking and stored our luggage. Upon arriving to our room, our luggage was not delivered as promised. So a couple of snags. Not a great 1st impression. However! This is where a 5 star, triple diamond resort sets itself apart. We received a text message that we’d be given a sizable credit to use on this stay and a 2pm late checkout. We were extremely impressed. Each and every staff person throughout our stay wished me a happy birthday. And a happy anniversary. We were treated to multiple offerings of complimentary champagne for our celebration. Given several gifts of Kohler Chocolates, a hand written note in our room, along with a split of wine. Beds, baths, furnishings were beautiful, comfortable and in pristine condition. This place and staff went above and beyond making us feel welcome and special. We did use the Kohler Waters spa on our 2nd day. There too, incredible service and attention from staff. A gorgeous place. All involved were phenomenal humans. We’ve agreed that this place will be an annual visit. Thank you Kohler. You’ve gained loyal customers.

Too much for not that much

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

Im not criticizing any employee...they were all very nice and helpful or the cleanliness etc. I just feel that 500 a night for a room, that wasn't that large and had a bathroom less luxurious than a standard hyatt . Today its 800 bucks for the same room. Unless you're on a company credit card .......id say look elsewhere for a resort . Their pool is a fitness club which is the last thing I want to see on a vacation ..at least me ......resort also ....in my opinion is a place with some land and nature ....not a corporate headquarters .... Im not a rich man, so take my tastes with a grain of salt ....but for 1k I could have gone to grand geneva that was acres of land and usually a lot cheaper .... I have been waiting to stay here for years ......very disappointed. My 15yo was even less pleased .... Again ...clean and safe and good staff....just seems to be waaaay to expensive....

Magical stay all around

Would rate this 6 stars if I could. The common areas and guest rooms are all beautiful, especially the stunning Greenhouse coffee shop. All of the employees were insanely helpful and kind from the second we pulled up. The Kohler Waters Spa was so relaxing and peaceful, I’d highly recommend.

he American Club at Kohler — A Winter Classic That Continues to Earn Its Reputation

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 months ago

Few American resorts manage to feel both storied and consistently renewed. The American Club at Kohler is one of them. After many years of near-annual visits—most recently as a year-end birthday tradition—our early 2026 stay reaffirmed why this property remains a benchmark for Midwestern luxury hospitality. Arrival & First Impressions We arrived as snow was gently falling, instantly elevating the sense of place. Winter suits Kohler well, and with Frozen Fairways underway, the resort felt both festive and refined. Despite arriving before 1:00 p.m., we were graciously checked in early—a small but telling signal of the American Club’s service philosophy. From valet to front desk to concierge, the staff consistently demonstrated an authentic commitment to making the stay seamless and memorable. This is not scripted service; it is practiced excellence. Accommodations We were upgraded to a Governor’s Suite—an experience that deserves special mention. Beautifully appointed and thoughtfully themed in homage to Mark Twain, the suite balanced elegance with warmth and personality. The craftsmanship, comfort, and attention to detail were exemplary, reinforcing the American Club’s reputation for rooms that feel both luxurious and lived-in. Dining Experiences Lunch at the Blackwolf Run Restaurant set a pleasant tone. The service and ambiance were excellent, and while the food was good, it did not quite rise to the level one expects at this caliber. My turkey pita was very good, though others in our group found their selections merely “fine.” That said, the snowy landscape and Frozen Fairways atmosphere softened any culinary shortcomings. Dinner at the Horse & Plow was a highlight. The smash burger I enjoyed ranks among the best I’ve had anywhere—perfectly executed and satisfying without pretension. Service was attentive and polished, striking the right balance for a relaxed evening. Pre- and post-dinner cocktails in the Library Bar remain one of the American Club’s great pleasures. The ambiance is timeless, intimate, and quietly elegant, and the bartender delivered outstanding craftsmanship and hospitality. The following morning’s brunch in the Wisconsin Room was a fitting finale. The setting alone is worth the visit—classic, light-filled, and distinctly Kohler. Whether enjoying the brunch offerings or ordering à la carte, the food was very good, and, as throughout the stay, service was consistently excellent. Spa & Activities No visit to Kohler is complete without time at the Kohler Waters Spa, and it once again delivered. Every treatment was very good, reaffirming that it is nearly impossible to go wrong with any selection here. Meanwhile, our friends enjoyed the Swing Suite golf experience, a reliable and enjoyable option we’ve also appreciated on past visits. Departure & Final Thoughts Checkout was effortless, assisted by the same outstanding valet team that welcomed us upon arrival—a small detail, but one that completes the experience on a high note. The American Club is not just a luxury resort; it is a destination defined by consistency, craftsmanship, and genuinely warm service. While not every dish reaches greatness, the total experience—particularly in winter—more than compensates. For celebrations, retreats, or simply a refined escape, the American Club at Kohler remains highly recommended and continues to stand apart as one of America’s great resort experiences.
