★★★★★ The perfect end to our India trip

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

We spent four nights with Kumarakom Lake Resort at the end of our holiday in India — one on a houseboat and three at the resort itself — and it turned out to be the highlight of the whole trip. The property itself is stunning. The heritage Kerala architecture, the lush grounds, the canals winding between the villas — every corner feels considered and beautifully maintained. We were there off-season so it was wonderfully quiet and peaceful, which made the whole place feel even more special. The staff across both the resort and the houseboat were incredibly attentive without ever being intrusive — warm, professional and genuinely lovely. Nothing was too much trouble. A particular mention for the restaurant team, who went out of their way to cook off-menu dishes for our fussy children on more than one occasion. It made a real difference. Our houseboat night was magical. Gliding through the backwaters, watching village life drift past, then settling in as the sun went down — completely relaxing. And the food on the houseboat was honestly the best we ate anywhere in India. Fresh, beautifully spiced, course after course of it. The captain and chef on board were superb. Back at the resort, we loved the little extras — the tender coconut welcome, afternoon chai, and the evening cultural performances. A real highlight was the quick pottery taster with Arun — such a warm, generous session and he's clearly a master of his craft. Don't miss it. If you're heading to Kerala, I'd wholeheartedly recommend doing what we did — a night on a houseboat combined with a longer stay at the resort. We left feeling completely restored. Already plotting a return.

Great family holiday.....

Stayed in a Heritage Villa for 3 nights and 1 night on the hotel house boat. Great experience. It is a 25 year old property but is extremely well maintained. Everything was working great- the outdoor jacuzzi, the air-conditioning, etc. Super clean...Extensive lakefront views and large compound. 2 restaurants serving excellent food- particularly the local Kerala fare. Great vfm.... One complaint- we had a Vishu festive vegetarian lunch. It was very good but a bit of a rip-off (Rs 3000 per person)

Paradise on Earth

A truly stunning resort with a great variety of activities to get involved in. Food at both restaurants was amazing but the highlight of our stay was the brilliant level of service we received from the staff. They are all so friendly, courteous and regularly go out of their way to make sure that the guests are well looked after. Special mention goes to Faiz, Ancy, Tom, Basil and all the staff at Vembanad Seafood Bar. Could not recommend Kumarakom Lake Resort highly enough, thank you for a lovely stay!

A perfect getaway experience

A splendid property with an absolutely delightful experience! The food was scrumptious, and every aspect of our stay felt thoughtfully curated. The sunset cruise was truly mesmerizing, made even more special by our wonderful guide Kavi, who captured some beautiful sunset moments for us. The yoga session, fishing activity with Sanjay, and the pottery class by Mr. Arun were all engaging, fun-filled, and memorable experiences. A special mention to the dinner staff, Ancy and Tom, who were incredibly helpful and attentive throughout. Thank you to the entire team for such a warm and unforgettable experience!
