Perfect location, attentive staff, amazing facilities!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

My partner and I spent 4 nights in a Grand Deluxe room on the fourth floor with a gorgeous view of the Castle. Room was quiet, felt spacious and light, with a good desk and chair (important on business trip!), large bathroom with tub, coffee making facilities and double wardrobe (nice for a longer stay). Aircon was adjustable in the room and the window opens so it's possible to get cooled off either way in the warm Polish summer. Bottled water was complimentary and we received new glass bottles daily from a very attentive and efficient cleaning staff. Breakfast was brilliant with a vast selection, made-to-order egg/omelet station, lactose-free yoghurt options etc. You can order barista made coffee or use the coffee machines with to-go-cups. It was definitely more busy during the weekend than during the week days but the selections were topped off quickly when empty so we didn't miss anything. You have breakfast in the hotel's "court yard" which gets natural sunlight but is covered so even on rainy days you'll have the feeling of sitting outside inside the hotel. Nice architectural touch. Location is quiet but right in the heart of the city - we walked everywhere! Right on the river with its running and walking paths, and the neighbor next door is the castle and old town. What really sets this hotel apart is its health club and rooftop bar and restaurant. The hotel was busy while we were there yet the health club was newer crowded and we often did our swimming laps in the amazing pool alone. The rooftop bar has stunning views and the food is delicious. We met helpful and welcoming staff all round, at breakfast, reception, health club and restaurant - the kind that hands you an umbrella before you've even noticed it's raining. I recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a welcoming hotel centrally located with those little extra luxury features like pool, spa and amazing food onsite.

"Better Than Perfect!" Describes This Splendid Hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I first visited Krakow in 2008, researched hotels carefully, stayed at this Sheraton. It was a great stay then, and now 17 years later I brought my wife. Once again, separately researched and chosen by her, this hotel proved once again to be best choice--even better than before! It has undergone a complete upgrade/remodel since then and honestly, is one of the BEST 5 hotels I've ever stayed anywhere. I've visited over 40 countries in my life and stayed in hundreds of very nice places, especially in retirement. Here, we got a "deluxe suite" that had a large sitting area off the foot of the bed with sofa, chairs, coffee tables, end tables, a full desk, and two sets of very large windows, higher ceilings (about 11 feet), 45 square meters (just under 500 square feet), with a large bath with shower/tub combination. The basic rooms just over half this size, and are comparable in size to other 4-5 star hotels. This room didn't have the bedroom completely enclosed from the living area, which is actually what we prefer. It was great! Access to the "M Club" and breakfast were included in our rate. We love the comforts of home when traveling (we prefer exotic new adventures to be only outside the hotel), and this hotel and room had it all for us. I'll explain in detail below. Hotel Staff: Alicia at the front desk greeted us with a warm smile, a room that was ready, and knowing we'd traveled from Florida, suggested we visit the M Club promptly as they evening snacks/cocktail period would end in an hour. It was just what we needed! Meanwhile, she worked on our request to extend a night (we had a night flight and didn't want to leave our room until then). The hotel had sent very helpful personalized reminders and offers of assistance before and during our journey, and everyone, from Peter and his colleagues as Bell/Door Staff, the M Club, restaurants, and the Guest Services desk were always there with a pleasant greetings and conversation, and genuine offer to help without any pressure at all. It was nice to hear "Thank you" and "You're Welcome" instead of "No problem" for a change. The housekeeping staff was very attentive and efficient--and our room was spotless upon arrival and they kept it that way throughout our stay of 6 nights. All were so friendly and helpful, and all spoke some English (most were fluent), which really helped given our struggle to learn even simple Polish phrases. We did learn a few phrases from them! The attendants in the M Club were efficient, friendly, and kept the lounge clean and well-stocked. There was also a computer there for guest use that was very helpful to printing out boarding passes for our flights home (many airlines ONLY take printed boarding passes in Eastern/Northern Europe). The staff was helpful with that by assisting with browser and printer support. It was common to happen along employees while moving around the hotel and they were all extremely polite and helpful. I apologize for not getting more names, but the superb people were not just Alicia and Peter—but it was all of whom we met during our visit. M Club: We went up the first evening after 7pm arrival and enjoyed a great actual full meal spread (not just hot evening snacks) of homemade pork meatballs in a delicious sour cream sauce, a delicious type of baked chicken, fresh sautéed green beans, salads, cheese and meat plates, finger sandwiches, apple pie and other desserts, coffee, sodas, alcoholic drinks if desired, and a nice lounge mezzanine/balcony setting overlooking the indoor atrium/courtyard. Every evening was like this, and it was so very nice to have a long day out and about, where we would have our main "meal out" to enjoy the local cuisine during the day, but have a have a nice hot and simple supper with dessert in the M Club every night. This immensely helped with not having to go back out, as we typically are in bed by 9:30pm every night. It was wonderful to pop into the Club any time during the day from 6am to 11pm to get fresh fruit, coffee, sodas, water, and light snacks (fruit, cookies, peanuts, chocolates, etc.) outside of the cocktail/meal hours (6pm to 8pm). What was really an awesome surprise was we were in Room 101 (Deluxe Suite) in a very quiet front corner of the hotel with fantastic views of both the Wawal Castle and Vistula River, with the M Club right across the hall from our room. So convenient yet so surprisingly quiet! A word on something here. We love kids but some of the visiting families seemed to think the M Club was a "daycare center" as they let their kids run rampant, squeezing between our tables of other guests and the railing to get a view, pushing up against our backs to talk to their parents, play with their siblings, etc. This isn't on the hotel staff at all, and the children are just being children (this is on the parents!), so please note: We are on vacation too and paying for the same amenities, and it is not our responsibility or desire to help you take care of your kids. The M Club staff were polite and would probably not mention it to the parents there. We tried to go at times when this one particular due/group of families who let their young kids run free were not there. Please take the hint. I also want to suggest offering a tip to the M Club staff. It is not expected or required, but they worked hard and were so pleasant! Breakfast Buffet: This was absolutely delicious and met or exceeded every Marriott standard we know, and was probably the best breakfast we have had anywhere. It was spacious with tables spread out, and the buffet had hot foods, cold folds, and fresh foods to appease any palate from anywhere in the world. We enjoyed a very wide selection of the absolute freshest fruit and baked breads and pastries...simply amazing! Made-to-order omelets/eggs with nice bacon, grilled kielbasa, hash brown potatoes, waffles, pancakes, oatmeal, and so much more. For our British friends there were grilled tomatoes and baked beans, and for a broader Asian appetite (we saw many folks from Eastern and Southern Europe, and many Asians from Japan to Oman, Qatar, India, Israel, Korea, and elsewhere. There was a wide array of delicious spring rolls, samosas, naan bread, salads, etc. So we enjoyed quite the lovely culinary experience every morning! To compare, we had eaten a similar outstanding breakfast buffet in the Seattle Marriott just a month before, and that meal was about $92 for two people, without as much cultural variety. My point is the quality of food here was superb and what a great value as it was included with our room rate. So by Day 3, our ritual every morning had become to get coffee at the M Club at 6am and go down for breakfast at 7am, to be ready to hit the town and lovely countryside by 9am. While it was mostly self-service at breakfast (frankly, we like that) there were restaurant staff to take plates and get us anything else we may need, and of course, chefs cooking the most perfect eggs to order. The coffee machines everywhere seem to get better each year, the Scherer (?) machines here were top-notch and offered a wide selection of coffees (cappuccino, latte, Americana, espresso, etc.). There was a Barista there if we wanted something beyond all of that...but we were thrilled with the machine both in the breakfast downstairs and in the M Club. More on the Room: Room 101 was perfect for us, with nicely working A/C, USB-A charging ports (you will want to bring a converter as well to use the European style plugs for more additional outlets (like for a CPAP machine or additional PD chargers). We had a Nespresso machine with our room (offered for suite level) but we never needed it. Extra toiletries and pillows were there when we arrived, just as we requested. The shower was hot and had great water pressure and a few different shower settings. While the vanity had just one sink (for those who may need this), it was large and accommodated all of our things. The tile and grout were spotless. The TV (Samsung) was very large (maybe 50" or more?) but we never had to time or desire to use it at all -- I really can't even say what channels it had, but given the modern brand and model it would likely also work with plug-in apps like Netflix, Paramount, etc. There was a hair dryer, robes, slippers, minibar, etc. as needed, and the blackout curtains on those monster windows were nice to have given it gets light a 6am this time of year and is light until 9:30pm. There was a nicely decorative carpet but it seemed new and was in great condition. Carpeting was welcome here as a hard floor would make this room an amphitheater! Rooftop Terrace, Lobbies, other restaurants, etc.: We visited the Rooftop Terrace to have a drink one evening and enjoy the lovely views. It is much like your typical Marriott/Sheraton rooftop bar that also offers food, which we did not need given all of the other things addressed above. This was added since my last visit and was one of many lovely additions. I visited the "Someplace Else" sports bar 17 years ago when it was newly opened and it was fine then, but we did not have time to visit this time, but clearly it had also been modernized/renovated. The lobby in the atrium/courtyard was spacious and very comfortable with plenty of nicely spaced seating for lounging, and there is a business center and concierge desk for those who do not have access to the M Club. We really enjoyed having the open air atrium along the walkways to get to/from the room as they really opened things up and showed off the beauty of the hotel. Everything was so well maintained, and the staff all over there work so hard, to include things guest rarely see like cleaning windows and watering the plants at 6am. The health center was modern and accommodating with cardio equipment, sauna, and even an indoor pool, but we literally walked about 5 miles each day, standing most of the time, so we skipped it, without feeling a bit of guilt. Assistance with Tours/Transportation: We bought several tours through the Marriott-Bonvoy app but the same ones were available to purchase here, which is really convenient. When we checked in, Alicia was also kind enough to take the time to show us a map of the city and circle things we'd expressed interest in seeing. I am not sure about Airport Shuttle but they offered to assist us in getting a ride, but we'd also booked our transfers online already. There is also Uber by licensed taxi drivers which was really handy to take down to Schindler's Factory and places that would have been an hour walk or more. 5 Star Hotel? Yes, it has the amenities of such hotel, including laundry, room service, concierge, deluxe accommodations, restaurants, and seems well on par with the Sheraton (a Marriott chain) re-branding and upgrades worldwide. But what I also really like is it not small, cramped, dark, and uncomfortable like overpriced/overhyped "Boutique" hotels but instead is nicely spread out and lets guests enjoy the amenities in a friendly and quaint atmosphere without losing privacy or forced socialization when not in the mood. For those who say this isn't a five-star hotel...well, it is. But it's not the Waldorf Astoria or Ritz Carlton, nor does hit have those prices. Facade: There is a 1,300 year old Medieval Castle and its adjoining famous river on two sides, a beautiful park-like setting on the other sides, and the hotel facade perfectly blends the ornate architecture and hundreds of years of Renaissance and Gothic style with more modern (and in some cases, not so ornate architecture with the 37 year Socialist/Communist influence) of the surrounding structures. The worst thing would have been to make a Disney-style or glitzy/flashy hotel front. This hotel is in such a wonderful, historical, and very good neighborhood in Krakow—so I suggest enjoy it, take it all in! It was designed perfectly to blend with it's surroundings. Daily walking along the Castle and river were so very beautiful, as was walking through a perimeter park (where a castle moat used to be) to the nearby Market Square with so much else around it, about an easy 17-minute stroll away, mostly through gorgeous Planty Park. Speaking of not-so-nice, you can get a feel of Soviet-style architecture by the Jibulat department store less than a block away (with other similar plain concrete/steel/glass structures nearby the Jubilat. Overall: We were so amazingly impressed by this hotel, where a fabulous facility and space were made "better than perfect" thanks to the superb hotel management and caring, attentive staff. As a retired military officer, punctuality, efficiency, and attention tend to run in my blood, and the folks here are really impressive in this regard. So my review must specifically mention Jakub, the Direction of Operations, who basically runs the whole place. Krakow is the only major city in Poland that was spared being razed to the ground in the world wars, and this hotel is the perfect place to make it a cost-effective, super-enjoyable, and comfortable place to explore and enjoy this beautiful city and surrounding countryside. There is so much to do and see all within a 20-minute walk of the hotel. I simply can’t say enough (sorry for the length of this review), but this hotel and our stay in Krakow were absolutely perfect in every way! This was a "Bucket List" trip for us but we already miss Poland and want to return to Krakow and this Sheraton! Thank you all, very much, for making our stay so wonderful!

Club Lounge is AMAZING...Robert is a gem

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

The Club Lounge & Robert who ran it, was the highlight of the Sheraton Grand Krakow. The lounge is included for certain elite member levels. The food was delicious, free wine, free spirits, free beer, and the kindest staff member Robert attending to your every need. He engaged all guests who came in with a smile, he asked about your day, made suggestions on other things to do and see. Robert made our stay at the Shertaon Grand Krakow feel like a home away from home. Having incredible staff like Robert is a testament to a well run hotel that values the guest experience!
