Kyoto is a city where the future and the past co-mingle in a vibrant harmony. As sleek steel structures arise, setting the tone for modern architecture, traditional wooden machiya still line the streets. Kyoto was spared during World War II, and as a result is one of the only places left where traditional Japanese culture and architecture can still be fully explored; Hotel Granvia Kyoto is the perfect place to begin your journey. Incorporated with the customary Asian style is their use of modern furnishings, and an impressively, breath-taking use of futuristic architecture that is part of the Kyoto Station complex. Hotel Granvia offers striking views of Kyotoâ€(TM)s mountainous skyline, and luxury accommodations that combine natural elements with modern conveniences, a full gym as well as fourteen first class restaurants. Designed to meet all of your needs under one beautifully designed roof, Hotel Granvia gives you a private entrance to the wonders of this historic city.

Hotel Granvia makes getting into and out of Kyoto easy given it connects directly to the train station. We thought there would be a lot of noise. However the hotel was very well insulated and we heard no train noise from the rooms. The breakfast buffet also had a lot of choices and chefs making omelets. There was also a nice public courtyard on the 7th floor.

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Granvia - Kyoto. We stayed in a deluxe room and enjoyed access to the club level lounge which we used regularly. The club lounge also had its own concierge desk and the staff was incredibly helpful. Really nice, updated room. Good location.

Good customer service and convenient location. The hotel is in Kyoto Station making it very easy to get trains and there is taxi line right outside. Main drawback is that the hotel feels dated with a circa late 1990s/early 2000s feel. We stayed in a Granvia family deluxe room. Granvia is one of the top floors and the rooms are considered recently renovated. We had originally booked a Graniva deluxe twin room (all that was available when we booked) but upgraded to the larger room (non-smoking, granvia family room) when we learned it was available at check in. Our family room itself was OK. It felt dated with heavy furniture and had 4 twin beds, which felt slightly odd. Executive lounge was very good; concierges are very helpful. We used the concierge to make a restaurant reservation. The woman who helped us was very thorough and nice. She read through our pre-arrival notes and noted we had a nut allergy even before I had a chance to even mention it. She made it a point to communicate this to the restaurant we were going to, both when she called them and on a note she gave us to give to the restaurant. Breakfast buffet (included in our hotel package) was extensive with both Western and Eastern cuisine choices. Their coffee / tea machine makes the best hot green tea matcha lattes!

I have been to Kyoto many times to visit friends and I have stayed at many of the top hotels. I would say none of them offer the same level of service as the Granvia, and staying on the Granvia Floors gives you an insight into Japanese service. The service was outstanding and the staff were never less than professional. The Granvia Lounge is a wonderful way to escape the crowds and the madness of the station. Within the hotel are wonderful restaurants (with odd opening and closing hours) and it is across from the Isetan department store, quite literally meters away. This is a busy hotel, it has conferences, events etc, but it runs like clockwork. The Granvia Lounge has an army of concierges, that take care of every request and assist as much as possible including with reservations and recommendations. The food in the Granvia Lounge is exceptional and if you want to avoid the madness of morning buffets, it is worth paying for the Granvia floor just to experience the peace of a small lounge with chefs and a separate kitchen. I have stayed at 5 star hotels throughout Japan and Kyoto, and many make promises and most of them are busy to the point of distraction. The Granvia rooms are quiet and clean and any request is dealt with immediately. It really is a great hotel....with no complaints at all.

As others point out you stay here for location at train station. Was super convenient as we arrived and left via train station and did day trips. I would agree that it could use updates. Carpet in lobby was worn and chairs in room should have been replaced. Room size was ok- not annoyingly small but not spacious. Bathroom was clean. Room darkening shades were great and it was quiet. Western breakfast buffet was efficient and adequate- standard free hotel breakfast. I would have preferred a bit more luxury but given the great location I would stay here again
