Cute and friendly hotel near the beach.

We traveled to La Jolla for few days after visiting Disneyland with our 2 kids. The hotel was clean, the beds were comfortable and it was a short walk to see the sea lions on the beach. It is close to several food spots. Valet is quick when you need your car and it has free valet parking included. Our room was quiet and spacious. We did not use the bikes, but it looked like they would be easy to check out to use. All of the staff were very friendly and kind.

Exceptional

Exceptional experience all the way around at Grande Colonial in La Jolla. We reserved the 8 rooms at its "Little Hotel by the Sea" building for the several generations of our family - for a family wedding weekend. The rooms were beautiful, charming and the service was absolutely exceptional. We also had them cater a wedding day lunch in the Garden Courtyard. They were so accommodating and attended to every detail. The Grande Colonial made the wedding weekend so convenient, special & perfect.

Grade A for the Grande!

An excellent choice for your La Jolla vacation! We had an ocean view suite and the room was very spacious! Huge room and huge bathroom (with plentiful towel supply)! There were three large windows facing the ocean which were so nice to let in the ocean breeze and natural light. It was surprisingly quiet for being in the center of town. We never heard street noise. The location of this hotel is incredible; walking distance to the beach and to many shops, restaurants, and trails. Valet is top notch; they always were friendly, attentive, and helpful. Excellent service all around. Good to know's: shower pressure is low; shower is a walk-in with half glass door (so a litttle breezy and water gets on the floor); decor is a little dated, but not unpleasant; Free snacks and water are replenished daily; unless you want to only stay in the general area, recommend renting a car for trips to Carlsbad, Torrey Pines, San Diego, etc.

Avoid this hotel

Find a different hotel, this hotel was booked months in advance. Imagine my surprise when the day before my reservation the same room was advertised for half the cost. The hotel made the adjustment but then I assume in retaliation put me in a subterranean room across from the employee break room . I had to walk through the laundry room to get there. It was awful. An exit door was next to my room and was not locked. Random people were walking through at all hours of the night. Very unsafe, I would never stay there again.
