Not a 4 star
If you’re looking for a luxury hotel with first class service… look elsewhere. They have not trained the staff as you would expect to experience at a nice hotel. Room was okay but not very clean. There is no turndown service although they advertise it in the book in the room. Had to ask several times for robes that were supposed to be in the room as well. They advertise the “Loft” on the rooftop but then only allow guests staying in a particular section of the hotel to use it. They have a say “no” culture instead of a “yes” culture. Feels like a lower class hotel.

Perfect location walking distance to all La Jolla attractions, with great accommodations, helpful staff, and a terrific restaurant. We will definitely be back!

Great quality and value in the heart of La Jolla
Grande Colonial is a gem in La Jolla. It is as described, a European style hotel with great quality, good value and outstanding service. The rooms are exceptionally clean, and design features are well thought throughout. Though an historic hotel, maintenance is up to date. For a relaxing stay where you can unwind and enjoy your downtime I would recommend Grand Colonial to anyone. It has the quality of a 5-star hotel at 4-start prices.
