Reviews for Hilton La Romana, an All-Inclusive Family Resort

An honest and objective review of my stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 10 hours ago

An honest and objective review of the resort during my stay. "the good stuff" Grounds and Pool The resort grounds are beautiful, well presented and maintained to a good standard. There is a dedicated gardening team that manage this and they are doing a good job. I would consider the resort to be in a good state of repair, clean and well maintained. Both the preferred and main pool were clean and suitable for young children under supervision and those not so comfortable in the water. Water park is great fun. I would question the maintenance carried out on the red slide as the seal on the inside appeared to be damaged. I sustained a very minor cut to my back after going down it. Both the regular beach and preferred beach are well maintained and clean. Food and Drink The food quality was mostly very good across all the restaurant's and buffet. On a few occasions some of the fish i eat had a strong underlaying flavor from an oil they cooked it on and on some occasions the meat options came out to be chewy and slightly overcooked. This was seen mostly at the Coastal Grill. Beer is limited at restaurants to "Presidente". This is also the case if your upgrade to "preferred". Cocktails were generally very good. The Peruvian restaurant was by far the best for its consistency, service and food quality. (Thank you Ramona). Rooms. We requested to be moved to a different room on arrival as the room smelled of dampness and the bedding was damp to touch. There was also visibility of mold on the ceilings where somebody had attempted to paint over it. Our new room was much better, dry and didnt have the musky smell. The air conditioning unit is a little noisy but generally does a good job of maintaining the temperature. Rooms was good size (King room) and suitable for 2 adults and 1 child. There is limited TV channels. "the not so good stuff" I want you to bear in mind that this resort is considered a 5* resort and equally attracts the cost associated with this. What really let this resort down was the service. This was seen on a daily basis and eventually become frustrating. Much of the service issues appear to be related to poor communication strategy, ownership of problems onsite and cross functional management. (nobody appears to be talking to each other) Some of the issues we experienced. 1. I sent my cloths to the laundry which resulted in one of my t shirts and wifes dresses being torn. When addressing it with the concierge that acknowledged the issue but we had some difficulty resolving it. I was initially offered 50$ good will and asked to sign a NDA and disclaimer of liability for the remainder of the holiday. i refused to sign and wasnt awarded the 50$ I later had a phone call stating this was an error and i did not need to sign anything and we would just receive the credit on my room. This didn't originally take place and i visited the concierge the following day and spoke with the manager who was very helpful. After 3 days of communication with the team i received 75$ and an upgrade to preferred. (thank you Maria) 2. Waiter service often forgot to bring drinks and food. Several occasions waiters who had been tipped did not bring the drinks ordered. There was 3 occasions (2 at coastal grill and 1 at the Italian) where incorrect food was brought to the table and or missing orders/additional plates of food. This resulted in delays and some frustration. 3. Often room food and drinks did not turn up. When we were upgraded to preferred we did not receive the additional drinks and snacks for the room until we raised the question several days later. 4. Inconsistent messaging from Concierge. One member of the team suggested a visit to La Romana whilst another member suggested it was too dangerous. We booked a taxi for a visit to the local caves visitor center (45 mins away and recommended by Concierge). We arrived but was informed they would not accommodate us. we returned to the hotel after another 45mins drive and 85$ taxi bill. Although this is not directly the fault of the resort, the resort did recommend the visit and endorsed them. on another occasion we booked a taxi through concierge who quoted us a fee but the cost was actually double when it came to pay. 5. Sun loungers are not policed by the staff and guests are reserving the beds (against hotel policy) for hours before using them making it very difficult to get a lounger. This resulted in a heated discussion with another guest over sun lounger ownership. This appears to be a reoccurring issue at the resort and should be managed appropriately by the local team. Overall my experience at the hotel was good and i would visit again. But having experienced an inconsistent and quiet frankly poor service and communication during my stay, i wouldn't rush to re visit. Although our room eventually turned out ok, i wouldn't be very happy if they were not able to relocate us...

Amazing anniversary stay at Dreams La Romana with fantastic staff, great food & unforgettable family memories.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

We’ve just returned from an incredible stay at Dreams La Romana Spa Hotel & Resort and genuinely had the most wonderful family holiday. After reading some mixed reviews beforehand, we were pleasantly surprised by just how good the food, service, and overall experience actually were. We were also celebrating our 10-year wedding anniversary during our stay, and the resort made it feel extra special. We were gifted a bottle of alcohol and chocolates, alongside a beautiful display on our front door, which was such a thoughtful and lovely surprise. The resort itself is beautiful, the rooms were cleaned regularly, and housekeeping always ensured we had plenty of towels and bottled water for the evening — although occasionally this arrived a little later in the day. Overall though, the cleanliness and upkeep were excellent. What truly made this holiday special was the staff. Every single member of the team worked so hard to create a welcoming, friendly, and enjoyable atmosphere. A very special thank you to Rosa at the coffee bar — she makes the BEST frappuccinos! My daughter was instantly drawn to her warm, kind personality and looked forward to seeing her every day. She is an absolute credit to the resort. The entertainment team were outstanding throughout our stay. Huge thanks to Juliana, Eddie Murphy, and Rene for bringing such amazing energy every single day — always smiling, engaging with guests, and making everyone feel included. In fact, the entire entertainment team deserves recognition for how organised they were; activities were always on time, inclusive, and genuinely fun for all ages. The children’s entertainment team were equally fantastic. Dorka, Esther, Rosa, and Maria made our daughter’s holiday unforgettable. The mini disco became her absolute favourite part of the evening and she couldn’t wait for it every night! A special mention also goes to Ramone at the beach grill, who was constantly smiling and always took the time to chat with guests, making everyone feel welcome. At Coastal Grill, Heidi was absolutely exceptional. Her memory and attention to detail were incredible and really demonstrated outstanding customer service. She was so lovely throughout our stay, as were Fredorino and Wilma, who were equally friendly and attentive. We’d also like to thank Jency from the Italian restaurant and Luis from the Preferred Club dining area for their excellent service and warm hospitality. The buffet staff were all fantastic too, especially the gentleman who can whistle like a bird — he was so attentive, friendly, and always made us smile! Overall, we had such a memorable holiday and would absolutely return. Thank you to all the amazing staff at Dreams La Romana for making our family trip so special.
