Resort is nice, the food was terrible

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Review: 7/10. There were many great things about this resort. And one that was a big fail. The Good: Prior to arrival, the resort was fabulous with communication and requests. Our check in was great, very quick and they were prepared for us. We were immediately introduced to our butler, Luiding, who is incredible!!! From the moment he met us, he stayed in constant connection and delivered on whatever we needed, with a smile. Honestly, he is probably the best thing at the entire resort. The grounds and landscaping are wonderful, and clearly well taken care of daily. Our housekeeping was immaculate, and the room was lovely. The spa is nice, they were also well prepared and made it easy to sign in and relax. The beach is nice, and the bali beds are luxurious. The servers on the beach and around the pool – especially Diorka - are fabulous. They give great service with a smile, even in the heat all day every day. The staff and food at Coastal Restaurant were great!!! The OK: The “preferred” beach was so packed that if you could even get a chair, you could barely move in it without being in someone’s lap, something they should probably fix. Or maybe that is how they get you to spend $150 a day for a bali bed. As for an entertainment team, we only saw them one day on the beach talking to people. Other than that, they do not interact with guests. The Bad: The food was awful, and that is putting it kindly. With the exception of Coastal, it was tasteless and bland at best, but most often inedible. I think the meals we had at the Italian and Peruvian restaurants were some of the worst I’ve ever had while travelling. The Italian restaurant kept us waiting almost an hour between ordering and bringing our food, and then it was obvious it had been sitting under a lamp the whole time with a congealed sauce sitting on the top of overcooked pasta. I took one bite, that was it. When the server came to clear she took the plate without even asking how it was, and then told us they were out of dessert. The experience of Chinola was so fun, but the food was tasteless and the menu was a disconnected mess. I highly doubt there is a true executive chef managing any of these restaurants. Would we go back? It’s hard to say. The location for scuba is good, the resort itself is nice. But coming home and having lost weight on vacation shows just how bad the food was. I expected more. TBD on if we would ever go back.

Lovely, big hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

This is a lovely hotel with a great beachfront position. It is located in a bay near to the town of Bayahíbe, which is within walking distance along the beach. I read certain reviews on here from people complaining about different issues and come to the conclusion that these people must spend their lives complaining. It is a lovely hotel, within well kept landscaped grounds and a great position on the beach and lovely views. Preferred guests have certain extras, like a different area for check in with buffet area, stocked minibar, dedicate pool and beach areas. There was no “butler” service and restaurants could not be booked in advance. Whether it is worth the extra cost, some will think so, others not. We didn’t really see any great benefit to be honest. There are many restaurants to eat at night, of which we tried them all and found them to be good, especially the Asian. However, be prepared to wait your turn for the Italian or Coastal grill. During the day, you can eat at the restaurants or as most people did, headed to the beach BBQs or homemade pizza place. There are also bars dotted around the reception and resort and a coffee shop open most of the day and night. Adults can use the Secrets side of the hotel, which is very similar to the Dreams side and vice versa. Although there seemed to be many people there when we stayed it never felt busy. The resort is big with so much going on, from a small but great water park to a Spa to lots of entertainment, to keep you busy day and night. We loved our stay and the best thing we can say is, we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

The best place in DR

Good service, good food, amazing beach, clean rooms. The water park is the perfect place for families with kids. Picaso, Cynthia, Yesennia and Carlos King are the Best!
