Family vacation okay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

The food is mid overall. Italian was decent. Seaside grill and mexican were meh. Until dinner the only food options were the buffet or the beach grill. Both were pretty bad. The fruit was pretty good though. The liquor selection is low-mid unless you are preferred. The resort is pretty. The beach is tiny but lovely. The transition from hilton to hyatt is a bumpy, on-going process. The ambar spa was underwhelming but the massage was ok. Lazy river and water slides were a big positive My wife loves the layout. I wouldnt go during the busy season if you like the beach. This didnt feel like a dreams resort and there would need to be big changes for that to change.

Underwhelming Stay with a Few Bright Spots — Below Expectations for a Dreams Resort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Overall Impression We arrived with high expectations based on previous excellent experiences at Dreams and Secrets resorts in Cancun, but unfortunately this stay fell well short. While there were a handful of standout staff members and some good family-friendly facilities, the overall experience was disappointing due to poor food quality, inconsistent service, language barriers, and room-related issues. Overall, it was an underwhelming week away and we are unlikely to return in the near future. Positives The water park was excellent for both children and adults and was well maintained with good staffing and food and drink options. A small number of staff genuinely stood out, particularly Jabier Bien at the buffet chilaquiles station, along with Benny and Carlos, who consistently went above expectations. At El Camino restaurant, Eduardo was the only staff member who provided a notably positive service experience. Room sizes were generous and suitable for families. The beach had very nice sand and water (although slightly cold), with plenty of loungers available. Towels were plentiful and not rationed, which was refreshing. Communal facilities such as toilets and open areas were consistently very clean and well maintained. Food & Dining Food quality was poor overall, particularly at the à la carte restaurants. There were multiple occasions where bones were found in food and meals were served cold. Service often felt rushed, with mains arriving before starters. Communication issues and language barriers made it difficult to understand menu options, especially meat choices. The buffet was the most reliable dining option due largely to a few excellent staff members. Aside from El Camino (and only due to one staff member), speciality restaurants were largely disappointing. We did not use in-room dining due to the delivery charge, which felt unreasonable compared to previous Dreams and Secrets experiences. Service & Staff The resort felt heavily skewed towards Spanish-speaking guests, with many staff unable to speak even basic conversational English, with the exception of reception. This made communication difficult and left the overall atmosphere feeling flat. Many staff appeared undertrained, unmotivated, or indifferent to guest concerns. At checkout, a request for late checkout was handled bluntly, with a flat “$20 per hour” response and no courtesy or explanation. Rooms & Accessibility Our initial room had small insects. We were offered a room change two floors higher, but this room then suffered from water leakage from the roof during a particularly rainy night. Fortunately, the water did not land on our belongings. Being two floors higher with no lift made things especially difficult while travelling with a pram, a 4-year-old, and a 6-month-old. Throughout these issues, staff showed little concern or urgency in resolving our complaints. Pools & Jacuzzi The main pool was particularly cold, which was evident from the lack of people using it. The jacuzzi was not warm for most of our stay (six out of seven days). It was also often dirty, with used drinks left on the side for one to two days at a time, suggesting poor cleaning and maintenance. Sustainability & Facilities While the hotel promotes ESG and sustainability values, waste management was poorly implemented. Recycling bins were often incomplete, for example only plastics available with no nearby option for food or general waste, making proper disposal inconvenient. On a positive note, communal areas and shared facilities were consistently kept very clean. Final Verdict This resort has the foundations of a good family destination, with a strong water park, clean communal areas, and a pleasant beach. However, poor food quality, inconsistent service, communication challenges, and a lack of responsiveness to guest concerns significantly detracted from the experience. Compared to other Dreams and Secrets resorts we’ve visited, this property fell well below expectations and we are unlikely to return.

Wonderful staff and beautiful hotel!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

We had a swim out room on the family side, Dreams and it was fantastic. It was quiet and relaxing. Never a line up at the bars, and the service was great. At the Italian restaurant our server Kenny Almonte #30, was excellent! Our favourite restaurant was the Costal Grill. The people/staff are so pleasant and friendly. The beach is beautiful and the pools were clean and lovely. We have a few more days here and looking forward to more fun and relaxation. Have to go to the water park yet!
