Surf & Sand Laguna Beach

Wow! We stayed in 190, the only penthouse suite with entire one side with glass walls overlooking the ocean, the waves, the sunset, and the pool. Ive been to many luxury hotels around the world, but this room was one of my best! Love the bathroom full of marble, the room has beautiful wooden floors and in the balcony as well. Very picturesque.

Exceptional stay ! Surf and Sand has everything, room service , small to go breakfast , lunch and coffee cafe, valet was great ! Front desk Chris, Sydney, Ken all were helpful and personable , Laurie at concierge mailed our post cards and was a doll ! Roberto rm service was efficient and nice ! All in all a great stay 🩵🤎😎

Wonderful week at the Hotel. Loved being so close to the beach, oceanfront views were amazing. Front Desk and Valet staff were excellent as well.

The views are stunning. The grounds are immaculate. The setting feels like a dream. But unfortunately, true luxury isn’t just about scenery — it’s about how you treat people. And on that front, Surf & Sand failed miserably. After four nights and nearly $10,000 spent, my final experience here left me stunned. I returned to the hotel around 5AM after a long night in the studio, accompanied by my partner — who is Black. The overnight staff’s body language shifted the moment we walked in. I was interrogated for over 15 minutes at the front desk, told the room “wasn’t in my name,” and that my ID “didn’t match.” It did. Everything was correct. Only when the manager stepped out did they admit the error and issue the keys — no apology, no explanation, just quiet dismissal. I understand the demographics of Laguna Beach — but this kind of treatment is unacceptable anywhere. I’ve stayed in luxury hotels around the world, and never have I been made to feel so uncomfortable, scrutinized, or unwelcome. It felt like profiling, plain and simple. To make it worse, I left a review about the experience — and received no response. What I did receive was this generic message the next morning: “Good morning! Your reservation shows you plan to depart today. We wish to remind you that contactless checkout is available via our by phone or by responding to this text… We hope you enjoyed your stay!” No acknowledgment. No ownership. No humanity. Just a cut-and-paste message that pretends the last 24 hours didn’t happen. This is not luxury. This is not hospitality. And it certainly isn’t five-star service. Do better. Not just for me — but for every guest that walks through your doors.

Beautiful hotel! Excellent service from hotel staff. Food from room service was very good. Front desk and bellman service was outstanding.
