Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa is a landmark oceanfront retreat set along world-famous Kaʻanapali Beach, nestled beside the iconic Puʻu Kekaʻa (Black Rock). The 23-acre resort blends classic Hawaiian heritage with modern island comfort, offering sweeping views of the Pacific, vibrant cultural programming, and a strong sense of place rooted in aloha. Guests can unwind at the expansive 142-yard lagoon-style pool—one of the largest on Maui, various swimming areas, lava-rock waterways, a waterslide, and dedicated children’s zones, all just steps from the sand. The property is also known for its nightly sunset cliff-diving ritual honoring Maui’s last ruling chief, along with on-site cultural activities such as lei making, ukulele lessons, and hula dancing, creating a uniquely immersive Hawaiian experience.

The setting is beautiful and the location very nice but my complaint is with the resort fee. This already has a high price daily rate so to charge an additional $58 a day for essentially having a pool is obscene. It is a smaller fitness center (especially for the size of this property) that needs some updates. They charge an additional $80 plus per day if you want cushioned chairs by the pool or any chairs at all on the beach. During the middle of the day it was tough to find chairs at the pool that hadn't been already claimed by other guests.

The resort as a whole is quite spread out. We booked through a travel agent and had planned excursions so didn't have time to use the pool or beach. The main dining room is out of use and the other restaurant is closed Sunday and Monday, which were the days we were there. The outdoor grill didn't provide dinner choices we were looking for. However, just 10 minutes walk along the beach is Whalers village which provides options. The breakfast buffet provided the usual options Other than that, the room was clean and comfortable. We were told it had a balcony and a partial sea view, but it was only a foot wide, so not suitable for sitting out to watch the sunset.

Room service is only for breakfast and dinner. If you want late night food you aren’t going to get any until the next morning unless you want food from a vending machine. DoorDash is hit or miss (not surprising because it’s an island) so you cannot count on that. Also, no microwaves in the rooms. Make sure you’re very specific about the room you want at booking. The cost of this hotel would make you believe that it’s high-end and with all the people staying there you would think they would have better amenities. I will add that it was very clean and the noise level wasn’t at all a problem. The staff were all such nice people.

We have stayed at the Sheraton many times and this time we felt the service had improved. Most of the workers were very friendly and were helpful. We had a high floor in building 4 with a panoramic view of the pool and beach. The breakfast buffet was moved to an area near the elevators on the 3rd floor because the Coral restaurant was closed for a remodel. The breakfast buffet was good and the omelette chef, Christopher, was always smiling and made our breakfast experience extra special. The pool chairs were full by 9:00 am so it was necessary to get pool chairs early. The Sheraton still allows outside people to use the pool and take up pool chairs which is very unfair to paying guests. Tepan-Yaki Dan restaurant was great. I really enjoyed the Marlin and the Lobster. The snorkeling by Black Rock is normally fantastic but because of a recent storm the water was murky most days. The Sheraton is a solid 4 star resort and I would return again.

The Sheraton Maui is designated as a four star hotel. I disagree with this rating. The hotel is at best a 2.5 star. While the rooms are adequate and many views spectacular the hotel is old and needs repairs. The first morning there was no hot water. We had to request room service, especially to get towels. I really don’t care if some hotels only provide room service every other day. The money I am paying for this room they should have a maid outside my door. They say there is a shuttle to take people to the shopping mall close the hotel. However it is never available when asked for. Consequently you need to take a taxi. After a 5 minute cab ride you are charged $20. Finally the architects who designed this resort must have been drunk. In order to get from the lobby where the restaurants are located to my room I had to walk at least a quarter of a mile and use 4 different elevators. I recently noticed staying at this “resort.” Marriott you should be ashamed.
