A Rare Scenario Where It's Better Than You Thought

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Everything you thought about the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is true. Great location. Impeccable service. Friendly staff. Exceptional on-site bar. An unforgettable spa. Check, check, check, and check some more. There is nothing to complain about. If forced to pick something, I'd have to point to the idea of a $6 Cliff Bar. Maybe it was $8. I don't recall. But, that's an optional thing. I can't recommend this location enough.

Winter Wonderland

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

Our stay at Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise was truly magical—a winter wonderland experience from start to finish. We were fortunate to have a gorgeous room overlooking the frozen lake, framed by stunning mountain views that felt almost surreal each morning. We fully embraced everything the property has to offer. Highlights included the mixology class in the beautiful Fairview Bar, snowshoeing, and even curling lessons. Dining was exceptional across the board—from Alpine Social to Walliser Stube and the Lakeview Restaurant, each offering a unique and memorable experience. Our days were filled with adventure: walking the lake daily, hiking up to Fairview Lookout, exploring Upper Falls, and spending a fantastic day skiing at Lake Louise Ski Resort. The convenience of renting skis directly from the hotel, along with borrowing ice cleats and poles for our hikes, made everything seamless and easy. The service throughout our stay was outstanding—every team member we encountered was professional, warm, and genuinely welcoming. From the moment we checked in, it was clear we were in a place that prioritizes thoughtful, curated guest experiences. Having daily breakfast included was an added bonus and truly elevated our stay. The combination of a well-stocked cold bar, fresh pastries, and delicious hot menu items kept us fueled for full days of outdoor activities. We would highly recommend the Fairmont Lake Louise for a winter escape and are already looking forward to returning—perhaps next time to experience it in the summer or fall.

Gorgeous but Expensive

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

Absolutely unbeatable location! Our first room smelled like someone had vomited in it (and I have a terrible sense of smell) but we were quickly moved to a new room. The lake side rooms have a completely gorgeous view, probably the best view I've ever seen. The room was updated and beautiful. The bathroom was also very solid. The staff is friendly and very helpful. It's fun to just walk around the hotel, it's very big. The big downside is that basically everything else at the hotel is an upcharge. Parking was like $45 a day even though there was a ton of room in the garage, so they clearly aren't strapped for space. And the restaurants in the hotel are ABSURDLY expensive. Like $38 for nachos expensive. Thankfully there is a shuttle at night that takes you to the town of Lake Louise, where things are expensive but much more manageable. We also didn't love the bed, even though it was very clean and new. I think it was just too soft and the comforter was very thick and warm. Even with the thermostat turned down to the lowest setting we were both hot at night. This could just be personal preference. We booked using a Costco discount that comes with buying a ski pass for Lake Louise from Costco, so we paid significantly less than the sticker price. Even given the discount I wouldn't stay here again. The view and location are absolutely gorgeous and are worth it for a single visit, but I would not return given how expensive and inaccessible everything else is.

Lake Louise Ski Vacation with Family and Friends

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

We had an absolutely amazing vacation at the Fairmont in Lake Louise. The views are truly stunning, and the entire experience exceeded our expectations!! The staff was outstanding, and we would especially like to recognize Jenny from the Gold team. She is an exceptional employee—handling all of our reservations seamlessly and ensuring that every detail of our stay was taken care of with efficiency and care. She never missed a beat and truly elevated our experience. The Gold room breakfast was fantastic as well Romeo the omelette chef who went out of his way to make us a beautiful breakfast!! We will absolutely be planning more vacations and look forward to staying at the Fairmont again. We only wish more properties were run with the same level of excellence, efficiency, and hospitality.

5-star location, 4-star facilities, 3-star service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

This resort is very nice with updated rooms and common areas. The location is also very scenic and relaxing. The food was generally good and there is a nice choice of onsite restaurants to suit various tastes and levels of formality. There is a 24h coffee shop which is convenient and appreciated. The gym and pool are disappointing. They are small and outdated and not adequate for this calibre of establishment. The hotel seems to have spent a lot of money on the “Basin Glacial Water” spa experience which costs $275 per person for three hours. I imagine most guests would prefer a nice, regular pool with a view (maybe indoor/outdoor as is done at other mountain resorts). The primary shortcoming of this resort is the variable level of service. Some staff were extremely helpful and pleasant such as the waitstaff at breakfast. Other times, there were multiple misses. For example, when we checked-in, we were told that despite reserving and paying the fee to guarantee connecting rooms, this was not available until the next day so we had to move our stuff from one room after the first night. They offer a text service to communicate with the hotel staff but I estimate I never received a response 25% of the time. The ski valet does not work well. They store equipment in two different places, one of which is often not attended to by staff. Walking back and forth between these two locations in ski boots is annoying. Also, there is no room where guests can put on their boots and store shoes to avoid having to walk in ski boots from their room, which can be a long way. At the Fairmont in Banff, guests’ boots and skis are kept in a large room - you arrive and are given your boots, skis, and poles and leave your regular shoes. The exit to the ski shuttle is directly outside this room. I wish they could replicate this at the Lake Louise property. On one occasion, I asked the concierge for some information and was handed a pamphlet and told to “check the website” without any further offer of assistance. I’m quite sure I got food poisoning from a room service dinner. You can never know for sure but I’m a physician so I’m quite sure that’s what happened. I let the hotel know what occurred and what I ate (via text), not expecting any type compensation but as a courtesy to the kitchen and other guests. No response was received. While checking out I called for our car to be brought from the valet parking. We waited about 30 minutes and when it hadn’t arrived, the valet staff told me “sorry, we forgot”. It also took 30 minutes for bell staff to collect our bags. I was only sent the invoice for one room, necessitating a follow-up email to get the second one. Overall, the checkout process took an hour. Lastly, I asked for a late checkout and was told it was not possible. I am a Platinum ALL member and booked via an Accor STEP/preferred partner which is supposed to provide priority for late checkouts. I know late checkouts are not guaranteed (except through Amex FHR) but I think extending checkout by at least an hour would not have been too much to accommodate. Overall, the resort could be great but with the issues above, it barely meets a “good” rating.

At Chateau Lake Louise in Alberta, Canada, the many delights of this mini-vacation began with the views of beautiful Lake Louise from our luxurious room on the Gold Floor. Our days were filled with cross-country skiing, invigorating hikes in the snow, afternoon high tea, evening happy hours, and a fantastic birthday dinner at Poppie's Restaurant in the Chateau! All this was made even more enjoyable by the ever friendly and helpful hotel staff. What was the highlight of this trip? How can we choose - we loved it all!
