About the Hotel

Experience a masterpiece of modern architecture on the cliff of the Buergenberg within a fully integrated resort, located 1.800 ft high above Lake Lucerne and yet only 30 min away from the city center of Lucerne. This 140 acre resort including the hotel has been a legend since 1873, due to it fine pioneering heritage (Switzerland's first electric railway, Europe's highest outdoor Elevator) and first and foremost, the link to glamour and celebrity: It was here that, Audrey Hepburn was married, Charlie Chaplin regularly stayed, Sophia Loren and Carlo Ponti made their home and many more celebrities, politicians, etc. returned year on year.

Luxurious weekend

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

The stunning views from room and bathroom, privacy of the large and comfortable room, the inclusion of snacks and soft drinks in the mini-bar, good size closet, good size bathroom, the bench at the window where we can sit and look at the view, the TV which allowed access to netflix, and the nice choice of restaurants made it a very relaxing weekend holiday. We went on hikes (took one spectacular lift ride), used the gym (nearly empty, supplies in the closet behind the mirrors), used the heated indoor-outdoor pool and ate in the restaurants. The food is so-so in the restaurants we chose for dinner but the breakfast was just super. The number of choices and the international variety amazing. The sambar was outstanding. Well worth it (even though it is very expensive) because of the comfort and the exceptional location.

Avoid This Resort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

I almost never write reviews, but this place was so disappointing that I felt I had to. From the moment you walk in, the hotel feels more like a cheap airport hotel or even a dated ferry cabin than a luxury mountain resort. Endless corridors, cold atmosphere, and an uninspiring interior with absolutely no sense of elegance or exclusivity. The service was equally shocking. There is virtually no hospitality, no attention to detail, and no professionalism. Many staff members seemed completely uninterested and poorly trained, making every interaction feel frustrating rather than welcoming. Staff members are constantly rushing from one place to another, yet somehow never seem to have time to properly answer a question or assist guests. Every interaction feels hurried and dismissive. Breakfast was probably one of the worst I’ve experienced in a 5-star hotel. The buffet consisted of basic cereal, unripe fruit, and food that looked like it had been sitting out for hours. Ordering from the menu didn’t help either—we were served dry, overcooked eggs, and even a simple coffee took nearly 40 minutes to arrive despite the restaurant being almost empty. Dinner was no better. We were told there might not be a table because we had booked “last minute,” which is difficult to understand at a hotel of this category. The food at Spices was frankly inedible. The curry was so watery it resembled soup rather than curry. One of the most concerning incidents happened during our stay when housekeeping prepared the room for the evening and left our room door completely open afterwards. We returned to find the door wide open, meaning anyone could have entered the room and accessed our belongings. For a hotel that claims to operate at a luxury level, such a basic security failure is simply unacceptable. The biggest disappointment, however, is that every single detail feels designed for mass tourism instead of genuine luxury. There is no refinement, no attention to quality, and none of the standards you would expect from a world-class 5-star resort. It feels like an expensive Instagram backdrop rather than a place that values exceptional hospitality. To make matters worse, after checking out we asked if we could spend a little more time by the pool, only to be told it would cost CHF 120 per person. Charging hotel guests such an amount immediately after checkout is something I have never experienced at any other luxury hotel. This resort is, in my opinion, massively overrated. It is a spa and Instagram destination for crowds rather than discerning travelers looking for true luxury. It was not worth the money and ranks among the worst mountain hotels I have ever stayed in.

Disappointed

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We arrived at Bürgenstock Hotel & Alpine Spa today at around 8:00 p.m. with high expectations, looking forward to our two-night stay. Unfortunately, our first impression was extremely disappointing. While waiting to receive our room key at check-in, I sat down in the lobby lounge area. A server named Tamas approached me with a frown and, in a very rude and unwelcoming manner, told me that the seats were reserved and asked me to leave. It wasn’t simply that the seating was reserved—that would have been perfectly understandable—but the way he spoke to me made me feel unwelcome, embarrassed, and disrespected as a guest. I immediately brought the matter to the attention of his manager, Raphael, because this level of hospitality is far below what one would expect from a luxury hotel of this reputation. We chose Bürgenstock because of its world-class reputation and exceptional service standards. Sadly, our arrival experience has been the complete opposite. A guest’s first interaction with hotel staff sets the tone for the entire stay, and ours has left us deeply disappointed. We sincerely hope the management addresses this incident and ensures that all guests are treated with courtesy, professionalism, and respect. We still have two nights remaining and hope the rest of our stay will reflect the level of hospitality that Bürgenstock is known for.

Absolutely AMAZING!!!!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Definitely a "must visit" property! Superb spa facilities, great hotel team, EXCELLENT restaurants, amazing views from the rooms and general areas ,,,, the list goes on! One of the best spa facilities we have ever experienced with excellent services, amazing people and amazing common "couples" spa areas with plenty of treatment areas available! This facility and team members all deserve FIVE + stars!
