About the Hotel

Experience a masterpiece of modern architecture on the cliff of the Buergenberg within a fully integrated resort, located 1.800 ft high above Lake Lucerne and yet only 30 min away from the city center of Lucerne. This 140 acre resort including the hotel has been a legend since 1873, due to it fine pioneering heritage (Switzerland's first electric railway, Europe's highest outdoor Elevator) and first and foremost, the link to glamour and celebrity: It was here that, Audrey Hepburn was married, Charlie Chaplin regularly stayed, Sophia Loren and Carlo Ponti made their home and many more celebrities, politicians, etc. returned year on year.

Tourist Trap

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 14 hours ago

We had relatively poor experience for a hotel of this category. The check-in process started off quite chaotically. The staff member assisting us failed to provide basic information, such as our room category, which later caused issues during our stay. There was also no particular sense of welcome—no welcome drink was offered, and the check-in took place over the counter alongside other guests, with no privacy at all. Overall, the experience felt more like checking into a standard business hotel rather than the luxury resort the property claims to be. We were informed that we had been “upgraded” to a lake-view room, as our original booking was for a mountain-view room. At first, we appreciated the gesture, but upon entering the room we were disappointed. It felt smaller than expected, had only a narrow window overlooking the lake, and there were unacceptable spider webs around the window frame. We requested to be moved back to the room type we had originally booked, but were instead shown two much smaller rooms with no view—neither of which matched our reservation. This back-and-forth cost us more than an hour of our time. Only after we firmly challenged the hotel did they finally provide the room we had initially booked. There are other shortcomings like service stuff entering the rooms without knocking, toiletries are not Acqua di Parma (no problem for that per se but it’s annoying as the hotel advertise this as one of the perks), breakfast service is equally chaotic and uninspiring, spa feels like mass tourism space and there are people not respecting the rules of hygiene, and overall the entire experience felt to us as a big tourist trap. We decided to leave as early as possible and therefore I can only advise (as locals) that if you are in the pursuit of authentic experience to look elsewhere.

Once in a lifetime

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

The entire team at the Burgenstock is focused on over the top delivery of all things hospitality. They will customize anything to your liking and they really anticipate your needs before you do. I am in the event business and would bring a group here in an instant. There is so much to do in the surrounding area. Really a perfect stay.

Absolutely Stunning!

Absolutely stunning hotel/resort! A once in a lifetime opportunity. Worth every single penny. The views from the top are exhilarating, the service impeccable and the rooms with a balcony are unbelievable. Several very different food options/restaurants ($$$) which were very good. Price equals the quality especially in one of the most expensive cities in Europe!

“Just back from a lovely 60th birthday celebration at the breathtaking Bürgenstock Resort 🏔✨ I had an amazing time — the spa and facilities were beautiful, the views were fabulous, and the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming. Running along the top of the mountain beside the lake was absolutely incredible 💫 I loved every moment and would highly recommend it — I can’t wait to return!”
