Experience a masterpiece of modern architecture on the cliff of the Buergenberg within a fully integrated resort, located 1.800 ft high above Lake Lucerne and yet only 30 min away from the city center of Lucerne. This 140 acre resort including the hotel has been a legend since 1873, due to it fine pioneering heritage (Switzerland's first electric railway, Europe's highest outdoor Elevator) and first and foremost, the link to glamour and celebrity: It was here that, Audrey Hepburn was married, Charlie Chaplin regularly stayed, Sophia Loren and Carlo Ponti made their home and many more celebrities, politicians, etc. returned year on year.

We stayed here. Had a wonderful suite with amazing views. We stayed in the modern building, suite 311. Suite was large and beautiful. Cleaning staff are great. Everything was monden and updated. I have one complaint if I am not picky. The toilet is not in the bathroom of the bedroom. Everything else is but the toilet. If that may bother you, I would check in advance. There are many restaurants. Breakfast was wonderful. Great selection. A real feast. The other meals were all great but it was hard to get reservations. So you will have to plan in advance and make reservations. There were some restaurants that we wanted to try and never got to. The spa was crazy amazing. They had all kinds of baths and saunas and steam rooms. Many types of baths I had never even heard of. Again I have one little observation and this is likely a cultural thing. The majority of the spa area is nude, so be warned. There were a lot of nude people, men and women of all shapes and sizes. There is fantastic hiking at the resort. This was so nice and my favorite activity. There are cows, farms and mountains everywhere. It’s just what you imagine Switzerland to be. You must not miss the hiking. We played golf during our stay. It was breathtaking for the views. If you are a serious golfer you may be disappointed with the practice range and rental equipment. The course is small (only 9 holes) but still a fun experience. The golf pro is friendly and knowledgeable. I played tennis too. I was very disappointed in the court. Online I saw a beautiful clay court but in person it was actually a carpet. The tennis pro was great and made the experience good though. My overall opinion is the resort is great with a few minor things I would warn people to know in advance. Last thing to know that the resort is away from the city of Lucern. To get to town you have to take a funicular, and then a boat and these leave one time every hour so you almost feel like you’re on a cruise ship. Hope this helps future travelers!

We stayed two nights in July in a lake-view room with a private balcony, and the view is genuinely among the best I have seen from any hotel room anywhere. Arrival is impressive: valet at the door, luggage handled, and an Experience Concierge who followed through on everything arranged in advance. Dinner at Oak Grill was excellent — Châteaubriand cooked exactly right, and service that evening was impeccable. Two things stopped this being a five-star stay. Breakfast variety and service were noticeably below what we had experienced at Mont Cervin Palace and Splendide Royal earlier in the same trip. More significantly, the resort made decisions on our behalf that were not ours to ask for. On arrival we were offered iced tea or water as a welcome drink while other arriving guests were offered wine. The minibar alcohol had been removed before we reached the room, and I had to ask for it to be stocked normally. At dinner, staff volunteered ingredient warnings about dishes we had already ordered. Three separate points of contact, the same assumption each time, apparently drawn from the address on our booking. A hotel at this level should present the full offering and let the guest decline what they don't want.

The day we arrived, my wife walked out onto the in-room balcony and just looked with awe at the stunning scenery. It brought tears of joy to her eyes, and from that moment I was thoroughly enchanted with the resort. The spa was comprehensive, the workout facilities were spotless, and the restaurants were of the highest rank. Everything about Bürgenstock was perfect.
