Lovely hotel with friendly staff in a beautiful setting - would definitely return!

The Hotel is situated a mile or so from Stresa main town on an elevated location above the main road. We booked a studio double and one single room for my mother in law. The single room was on the 4th floor up a flight of steps in an attic room with no window but a velox. Not ideal for a person with limited mobility. The noise at night from the water tanks and aircon units was such that she had a poor nights sleep . So in the morning we asked if we could have another room , which they agreed at an extra cost of £210 per night. The room was on the first floor next to the service lift and under the kitchens. Needless to say the noise was incredible and we asked to be moved again , which was next door and had the same issues. The noise started at 0600 with trolleys being wheeled in and out over the threshold's until 10 pm at night. We gave our room to our Mother in law and slept in this room. Even with ear plugs it was impossible to settle due to the crashing and banging from the kitchen. The Hotel offered no Apology but did offer to move us a third time but it was the third day of a seven day break and we had had enough of moving our belongings. The breakfast was in our opinion a bit lack lustre, especially the cereals which was akin to what you would expect in a travel lodge. The fruit dishes were covered in fruit flies and apart from an omelette the hot food was anaemic and unappealing. A morning swim is something we always enjoy but the pool was always being cleaned during the morning so not very inviting. Location wise if you want to go to Stresa the main town the hotel does have a transfer bus with a published schedule. This would go hourly but was always over subscribed so the bus would have to make several journeys to get everyone in. It was not really possible to walk to town as the road outside which was very busy with coaches and holiday traffic had no pavement so was not ideal if you wanted to explore outside of the bus times. Overall we were dissapointed with this hotel and for half the price we paid we could of had a better quality stay at another hotel without all of the disruption. If you do decide to go do not accept any room on the first floor at the back of the hotel. You will have to endure the kitchen noises and smells and a view of the service area and staff accommodation.

Location excellent overlooking the lake and Borromean islands(ferry point 10 mins walk) . Ample car parking. Walking distance 25 mins, 15 euro taxi into Stresa (lots of restaurants, bars and more ferries), although hotel runs a regular complimentary shuttle in and out. Hotel staff kind and attentive. Comfortable rooms with view from balcony. Complimentary welcome drink. Water, beer and softies in room minibar complimentary and replenished. Breakfast excellent. Outdoor pool and sun terrace. Like many hotels its Fitness room could be better air conditioned and equipped. A lovely 4 night stay, well recommended.

How do I thank you for an extraordinary experience at your lovely hotel? We traveled from Tuscany to the hotel and enjoyed the gorgeous ambience from start to finish. Breakfasts were lovely and views were magnificent. The fine dining at dinner was exceptional. Yes, the meat dishes are beyond incredible. Oh, and the pool was a delight. The grotto was amazing. Special thanks to the very special, kind and important Bar Manager who enhanced my stay during our last afternoon with kind offerings of snacks to enjoy with my Prosecco.
