Sensei Lana'i = Couples Paradise

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

It was an amazing experience! The grounds and hotel itself were stunning, and it's the best place to go on your honeymoon! When we arrived, they garnished us with delicious fruits and juices, along with a hot towel. The grounds are full of massive banyan trees that provide a home for many types of birds and fauna under its massive branches, and you can find many Botero statues scattered amongst the foliage. Because it was our honeymoon, we were welcomed with delicious pastries, including a guava mousse compote and a coconut custard. We also ate at Sensei by Nobu for breakfast and dinner, and the restaurant is nearly surrounded by a peaceful coy pond. The food was delicious, such as their miso cod, roasted sweet potatoes (both for dinner) and their Japanese Traditional Breakfast in the morning. The pool is open 24/7, which allows for peaceful night swims. The concierge was very helpful and guided our experience at the hotel. The spa experience was absolutely phenomenal and one-of-a-kind: our masseuses (Emiko and Likram) gave us our new favorite massages! The private hale spaces that are included in the spa experience are unforgettable; they can be rented without a spa for 60 minutes - highly recommended, especially for couples! We'll definitely be coming back to Sensei Lana'i.

A magical serene and luxurious place

Sensei is a very special place it’s like heaven on earth and the immediate calm you feel when you walk thru the doors of the main hall to check in is so wonderful. Pure luxury in an environment filled with the sounds of birds and beautiful trees and flora . There is no other place like Sensei and if you are in need of a retreat to reduce stress and eat wonderful cuisine and a place to get quiet and fit mentally or physically this is great choice. It’s also a lovely place to sit by the pool and take long walks there are all kinds of health and wellness classes offered and it’s truly. A magical experience

The most beautiful place in Hawaii!!!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 months ago

An absolutely stunning resort with lush tropical landscaped gardens and amazing sculptures. We stayed 10 perfect days and didn’t want to leave. When you land at Honolulu you are whisked away in decadent private transportation to Lanai airlines where a small 8-17 seater plane transports you to Lanai. You are welcomed warmly at the Koele resort with Hawaiian necklaces, drinks and the resident cat, Cocoa(big fan!) greets you on the famous front deck. When you enter the lobby you have a jaw dropping experience admiring the architecture, two huge fire places and a famous Jeff Koons sculpture of Aphrodite. The staff is warm, inviting and understands all your needs and preferences. Shout out to the wonderful manager Shiva and Fiona at the front desk. We had an amazing suite (223) with outstanding amenities including two decks, a decadent bathroom with Toto electric toilet and two 75 inch TVs (we did have playoffs to watch!!) We spent many hours in the private onsen baths- so amazing! Rented a jeep one day and saw many of Lanai’s greatest hits including Shipwreck Beach ( with a seal lounging!!!), Garden of the G-ds and the “must visit” Lanai Cat Sanctuary Rescue. We partook in many of the amazing complimentary activities too — tours of the Ranch and gardens, tours of the Art ( it is insane the amount of Art Larry Ellison has blessed this Island with!), exercise classes(Bernadette was amazing), yoga classes and meditation classes. All included! Now the food. Breakfast was a highlight for us as you sit in a glass room surrounded by a koi pond and spectacular flowers and foliage. The offerings were all delicious especially the fruit and baked goods from Lanai City. We enjoyed several outstanding dinners at the Sensei resort as well. Amazing wait staff (shout out to Sandy and Managers Arielle and Crystal). It is easy to take the complimentary Four Seasons Beach shuttle to enjoy their resorts beach and restaurants. We have absolutely no complaints with this resort and we plan to return again and again!

Not up to standards

We have been here 4 times now. The first few times were absolutely excellent! This last trip was not worth the expense. The communication with Sensei before and during our trip was terrible and pretty much non-existent. We stay at Four Seasons resorts often and never have I had an issue with communication like Sensei. The massage tables had cheap sheets that were scratchy; not what I would expect for a $700 massage. The room temperature never got below 70. The miso cod at the restaurant was extremely fishy tasting and not fresh. Pretty disappointing for such a pricy place.

The Perfect Solo Birthday Reset

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 months ago

I booked a solo birthday trip to Sensei Lāna‘i, and it was hands down one of the best gifts I’ve ever given myself. This is the kind of place where everything feels intentional—from the pace of the day to the way the staff support you without hovering. Traveling alone, I felt completely comfortable, respected, and cared for in a very genuine, low-key way. The biomarker consultation was a standout and made the trip feel purposeful, not just relaxing. It was thoughtful, personalized, and gave me real insights I’ll actually use. I also did forest bathing, a garden tour, and a fitness class, and each experience felt calm, well-run, and quietly impactful—nothing forced, nothing gimmicky. What really sets Sensei apart is the space it gives you to slow down and reset. No pressure to socialize, no packed schedules—just a beautifully designed environment that lets you focus on yourself. Celebrating my birthday solo here felt empowering, grounding, and honestly luxurious in the best way. Yes, it’s a splurge—but it’s absolutely worth it if you’re looking for a high-quality, wellness-focused experience that delivers real value, not just aesthetics. I left feeling clear, refreshed, and genuinely recharged. I wouldn’t hesitate to return.
