Reviews for The Danna Langkawi, Malaysia

6 star service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

I wrote similar Google review. I would rate is 6 stars. Hotel is located in the middle between Ceiling ( the town) and other attractions in protected bay. Building is recently renovated and everything is spotless and clean. Hotel has 3 restaurants, western/mix , Italian and Malay. Food it superb and well presented. But the staff is what makes the stay special. From check-in experience to final checkout, you feel taken care of. I have stayed other high end hotels in Asia, but this just had a different vibe 6 star experience. Great place to stay.

Wonderful in every way

I can’t fault The Danna - exceptional in everyway. Beautiful rooms (a sea view is worth it), amazing food, fantastic service. Great location on the island for Skybridge etc and easy to get around using Grab.

The Danna is, a small-ish Colonial-style hotel in the South of the island, around a 15 minute drive from the Airport located on a small private beach close to the Telaga Harbour Marina - a picturesque Marina offering boat trips etc. The hotel was a real surprise in a good way. On check-in, they gave us a short neck and shoulder massage, which frankly is a great idea when a lot of your guests have just got off a plane. It’s not at the very top end of luxury, but felt extremely good value for money given the price paid and the calibre of the hotel. We stayed in a Grand Corner Duchess Sea View Room - quite the mouthful, but at a massive 110sqm and offering a wraparound top-floor balcony with outdoor jacuzzi pool it was a really comfortable stay. The Danna has three restaurants - Straights & Co (Peranakan / Nyonya), The Terrace (Italian), and Planters (Asian & Western). Breakfast is served at Planters and combines a very large and sumptuous buffet with a la carte options. The Danna’s real highlight is the pool area. A huge, visually appealing swimming pool comes with ample lounging space, plenty of shade and views over the white sand beach. A short ($5) cab ride away from the hotel is the Langkawi Skybridge - well worth a visit as the views up there are unbelievable - and around 10 minutes walk away from that is the Seven Wells waterfall. A hot and sweaty 600 steps up the mountain, but a dip in the fresh, cool river pools at the top of the falls make the journey worth it, as long as you brought a swimming costume and towel with you. I’d suggest doing both in one day - get to the Skybridge early to avoid the crowds, before walking to the falls for a dip before returning to the Skybridge to get a taxi back to the hotel. Service - 7/10. A couple of high points - the massage at check-in was one, and the other was the concierge recommending a Grab rather than the hotel’s own car for my onward travel (showing they were interested in a good outcome for me rather than upselling). That said, the service in the restaurants was a little too low-touch for me. To get anyone’s attention required flagging someone down - this wasn’t due to a lack of staff but seemed to be the training at the hotel since staff would never proactively approach your table. Service was always great once you got somebody though! Property - 8/10. It’s not a huge place, but very attractively designed. The pool area is a real highlight. Room - 9/10. Huge and comfortable with beautiful views. The hotel also offers beach villas with their own pool which I’d be interested in next time. Food - 7/10. Breakfast was superb, the Peranakan restaurant very good, but the Italian a little underwhelming. Frankly I usually tend to avoid Western food at hotels in SE Asia as it seems tough for them to get things quite right - access to fresh ingredients has to be a problem sometimes, for example. Extras & activities - 6/10. The beach is great and they offer various motorsports. The gym is pretty good too. But overall it’s a small hotel so there’s not a ton on offer. You’re coming here for the pool and beach primarily, and those are both great.

Relaxation and rejuvenation at The Danna

We came to Malaysia as a family to celebrate our niece’s marriage to a Malaysian so our first week was very busy with events and gatherings etc so we wanted a quite relaxing resort to spend time before heading back home to Ireland and The was recommended to us by several Malaysian friends an d it did not disapoint ! From the private beach to the infinity pool, the rooms and bars and restaurants- we couldn’t have been happier with our choice !

Perfect Malaysia

We arrived at The Danna after a long journey from London via Kuala Lumpur, and the hotel transfer I’d arranged worked seamlessly. It’s only a 10–15 minute drive from the airport. The hotel sits beside a small harbour, and the initial impression as you pass through the gates is surprisingly modest. But the moment you step out of the car and into the expansive lobby—greeted by warm, genuinely friendly front‑office staff—you immediately feel the shift into a true five‑star experience. Check‑in was straightforward, though our room wasn’t ready. Unfortunately, the hotel doesn’t offer dedicated changing or shower facilities for guests waiting for rooms or transfers, so we made do with the disabled restroom before heading to the Italian restaurant for a late lunch. The food was good and the service attentive. However, the pizza oven beside our table was astonishingly loud—an industrial roar unlike anything I’ve ever heard from a kitchen appliance. Between the noise and our travel fatigue, it wasn’t the most relaxing start. Once our room was ready, everything improved. Located on the fourth floor with a beach view, it was spacious, beautifully appointed, and opened onto a lovely balcony. Perfect. The pool area is equally impressive—large, open, and anchored by a vast infinity pool. Loungers are comfortable and the bar service excellent. The only challenge is shade: there are very few spots that remain shaded throughout the day, something the hotel might consider enhancing. The pool water is wonderfully refreshing in the morning but inevitably warms under the afternoon sun. The beach is stunning: a long, quiet stretch of sand with only The Danna currently occupying it. There is construction at the far end, suggesting another large hotel is on the way, and one can only hope the tranquillity of this beautiful coastline is preserved. Food throughout the hotel was consistently good. Breakfast offered plenty of choice, with the option to sit indoors or outside overlooking the water gardens—an idyllic way to start the day. For lunch we mostly ordered bar snacks, which were of quality and reasonably priced. Dinner is served across three venues: the Italian restaurant, a Malay à la carte option, and a buffet. All offered good value and enjoyable dishes. After dinner, the bar is a charming retreat with an extensive selection of cocktails, wines, and cigars. Overall, we liked The Danna. It’s a peaceful, serene place to unwind for a few days, with excellent service and a beautiful setting.
