Reviews for The Danna Langkawi, Malaysia

Fabulous hotel!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Really lovely hotel. The service is impeccable and they could not have been more helpful. Everything was perfect. There was one night with the next room having a shouting match late at night (not the hotels fault) We mentioned it to the manager when he spoke to us at breakfast and it did not happen again!! We had dinner at next door Ritz Carlton which was very spectacular but we felt the Danna had a more relaxed feel. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Great iftar

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

I had a wonderful experience having iftar at The Danna. Even though I was only dining and not staying at the hotel, the staff welcomed us with such warm smiles and made us feel truly valued. The food was delicious with a wide selection, and I especially loved the local flavors. Everything was well prepared and beautifully presented. A special thanks to Manager Zul and Jot for stopping by our table to check on us and make sure everything was perfect. The service was excellent — the staff were very attentive and never let our table stay messy or full of empty plates. I’d also like to thank Azri and Aiza for taking such great care of our table, even when it got a bit messy with all the food! Appreciation as well to Chef Mady and Chef Shariffudin for the amazing dishes. Overall, it was a fantastic iftar experience and I would definitely come back again. Thank you to the whole team

So nearly excellent

Overall a great hotel - beautiful setting, friendly helpful staff, great breakfast with lots of choice, stunning pool and very happy with our room. As someone else mentioned it is a shame there is not a proper outside bar to have pre dinner drinks. Existing indoor bar was good although more than a few times frustratingly slow service. A couple of times a week they offer bbq or special dinner outside but I found it quite annoying that from 3 in the afternoon they start setting up all the tables and dining stations which is right by the pool area and certainly took the edge of relaxing by the pool. My only main criticism of this hotel is the really poor quality sun lounger cushions! Surprising for this level of hotel. They are old, really thin and many were very dirty. Lots were missing the ties/old Velcro not sticking to keep them from slipping down the lounger. I appreciate that some people would not be bothered by this but at this level it was pretty disappointing for us - a couple who wanted to spend 10 days mainly relaxing by the pool. A little warning about booking a mangrove tour - originally we had booked with the guy on the hotel beach where you get the kayaks but we later realised this was a third party not connected to the hotel and over twice the price of the company through hotel concierge! We discovered this by accident and concierge cancelled our booking with him. The private mangrove tour we then booked through the concierge was excellent and I highly recommend.

Relaxed and Friendly

The hotel is situated about 20 mins drive from the Airport but no sight nor sound of it made our stay peaceful and relaxed. The hotel is built around a central garden courtyard and has 3 eateries to cover all tastes and finances with a common breakfast which catered for many world cuisines. This hotel is ideally suited for a relaxed holiday for couples without children. The pool is very large and well shaped to allow shade for most beds. There always seemed to be spare bed’s available. The hotel is well situated close to several attractions and private well run excursions can be booked by the concierge. The whole island is not busy with empty roads making excursions easy and relaxed.

Fabulous and luxurious hotel with excellent service.

The Danna is a truly beautiful hotel. The location is stunning, a beautiful, quiet bay, with fishing boats at one end. A very short cab ride away from the cable car and oriental village. It is right next door to the harbour, but there wasn't anything there, no restaurants to walk to, so if you want to eat outside the hotel, you will need a grab. Arrival and checkin was wonderful, with a short neck and shoulder massage and a lovely drink. The staff were all fabulous, very attentive and happy to chat. Our room was amazing, big, very clean and with some lovely touches. Jo Loves toiletries smelt amazing. The restaurants were very good. Planters for breakfast with a piano player in attendance was fabulous. A selection of items from the A la carte menu but with everything from the extensive buffet too. Evening meals in Planters were also good, with a wide ranging menu from 'comfort choices' to Malaysian, Indian and Chinese specialities. The Terrace Italian restaurant was also very good, but our favourite was probably Straits & Co, where we had a superb Malaysian set menu, with so many delicious courses. The only slight negative was the lack of beach bar, if you wanted to sit on the beach with a cocktail to watch the beautiful sunset, this was not really an option. You could get a drink from the pool bar and try to find a chair or sun bed on the beach, but by 7 all cushions were removed and it felt as though they were clearing up for the day. It seems a wasted opportunity for the hotel not to have a lovely area to get a drink outside in the early or even late evening. The main bar, Verandah, was very nice, but inside. The sea was slightly disappointing, very cloudy and quite a lot of jellyfish! I suspect this changes based on seasons and it was still very warm. Overall, a fabulous hotel that I really hope we are able to visit again in the not too distant future. Special thanks to Fariezal for making our last night so memorable and to Heng in Verandah for his humour and excellent service.
