Our hotel is located on the enthralling Langkawi island or sometimes known as Legendary island as it is enshrouded with legends and myths. It is an archipelago of 104 islands overlooking the panoramic Andaman Sea and Straits of Malacca. This island derived its name from the abundance of eagles on the island.

We arrived at The Danna after a long journey from London via Kuala Lumpur, and the hotel transfer I’d arranged worked seamlessly. It’s only a 10–15 minute drive from the airport. The hotel sits beside a small harbour, and the initial impression as you pass through the gates is surprisingly modest. But the moment you step out of the car and into the expansive lobby—greeted by warm, genuinely friendly front‑office staff—you immediately feel the shift into a true five‑star experience. Check‑in was straightforward, though our room wasn’t ready. Unfortunately, the hotel doesn’t offer dedicated changing or shower facilities for guests waiting for rooms or transfers, so we made do with the disabled restroom before heading to the Italian restaurant for a late lunch. The food was good and the service attentive. However, the pizza oven beside our table was astonishingly loud—an industrial roar unlike anything I’ve ever heard from a kitchen appliance. Between the noise and our travel fatigue, it wasn’t the most relaxing start. Once our room was ready, everything improved. Located on the fourth floor with a beach view, it was spacious, beautifully appointed, and opened onto a lovely balcony. Perfect. The pool area is equally impressive—large, open, and anchored by a vast infinity pool. Loungers are comfortable and the bar service excellent. The only challenge is shade: there are very few spots that remain shaded throughout the day, something the hotel might consider enhancing. The pool water is wonderfully refreshing in the morning but inevitably warms under the afternoon sun. The beach is stunning: a long, quiet stretch of sand with only The Danna currently occupying it. There is construction at the far end, suggesting another large hotel is on the way, and one can only hope the tranquillity of this beautiful coastline is preserved. Food throughout the hotel was consistently good. Breakfast offered plenty of choice, with the option to sit indoors or outside overlooking the water gardens—an idyllic way to start the day. For lunch we mostly ordered bar snacks, which were of quality and reasonably priced. Dinner is served across three venues: the Italian restaurant, a Malay à la carte option, and a buffet. All offered good value and enjoyable dishes. After dinner, the bar is a charming retreat with an extensive selection of cocktails, wines, and cigars. Overall, we liked The Danna. It’s a peaceful, serene place to unwind for a few days, with excellent service and a beautiful setting.

From the start to the end we had a memorable experience at this resort. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and served refreshments and taken care of. The room was impeccable and the view was stunning. The pool, the hospitality, the food and the private nature of the hotel made it one of the best places we have been to so far and we will definitely be returning in the future.

Beautiful hotel with great staff and every comfort that you need for a pleasant stay. Occasional lapses in service at busy breakfast times but otherwise flawless. Somewhat isolated in terms of outside options for dining etc but we did have a car and understand the Grab taxis are easy to utilise. There is an independent beach shack to the right of the hotel as you go to the beach. It was open 12-12 and although the menu was very small, the food was amazing and very reasonably priced. Not licensed but you can take your own beer. Visited Cenang one evening for food but we were very happy to get back to the calm oasis of the Danna.

There is a really nice ambience, team, great hospitality without being stuffy or insincere. It is not cheap though....

We had such a wonderful experience during our check-in at The Danna Langkawi. From the moment we arrived, Aznie and Husna made us feel incredibly welcomed with their warm smiles, attentiveness, and genuine hospitality. It truly set the tone for a relaxing and memorable stay. A special compliment as well to Chef Pravin for the exceptional Indian cuisine. The food was absolutely outstanding rich in flavor, beautifully prepared, and truly authentic. It genuinely felt like enjoying a meal in India, which is not easy to find. Thank you to the entire team for making our experience so enjoyable. We truly appreciate the effort and care that went into every detail.
