Luxury holiday in Lanzarote

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 11 hours ago

The service is excellent. Rooms are spacious and well furnished. Food is excellent in all venue including the buffet. Plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas and numerous pools. Entertainment during the day and in the evening. Well equipped gym. There is a spa here but we didn’t use it. Guest services staff were extremely helpful. We were booked as ‘preferred’ guests. Would highly recommend this resort.

Lovely hotel but not quite 5 star

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 16 hours ago

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a week in a junior suite with the preferred club package and while the property itself is absolutely beautiful, we felt the service left a lot to be desired. There were very few staff members around, especially by the preferred pool and lunch restaurant - we hardly saw any waiters, which made it difficult to order drinks and food. The entertainment was also quite underwhelming. There was hardly any music played during the day/night around the pools or hotel, which made the atmosphere feel quite flat and a bit boring. In the evenings, the shows were pleasant, but once they ended, there wasn’t much else going on. It would have been lovely if they played some music around the hotel and the bar areas to keep the evening going. It also would’ve added a nice touch if they organised additional evening activities—perhaps a market night or something. I highly recommend opting for the preferred club package, as it provides access to a quiet pool, a lounge, and a restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food quality in the preferred club restaurants were significantly better than what was available at the buffet. We tried the buffet a few times, and unfortunately it was awful, my husband was also served a raw burger. Overall, it’s a really beautiful hotel, but there were a few things missing that stopped it from feeling truly five-star. It’s a shame, because we stayed at Secrets Akumal in Mexico for our honeymoon last year, and it was honestly one of the best hotels we’ve ever experienced. I feel like Secrets Lanzarote could take a few cues from other Secrets hotels like Akumal. We really had high hopes for this one and the hotel chain in general—but sadly, it just didn’t live up to them.

A Relaxing Stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

I stayed at Secrets for 6 days/5 nights with my mom, who is in her 70s. We stayed as part of the all-inclusive package. Having visited Lanzarote for 30 years, Secrets is now a firm favourite of ours. The resort is 15 mins from the airport by taxi, costing about €25. The approach to the hotel is very impressive. The location is perfect for rest and relaxation. It’s easy to feel like you’re at the edge of the island with few other buildings crowding over the hotel. Konte greeted us a check-in with a hot towel and cava and he made us feel immediately welcome. We arrived before check-in but were able to go to the restaurant for lunch and relax. We enjoyed taking in the surroundings and getting our bearings while we waited. Our room was spacious and located far from reception, making it a very quiet location. It was hard to know how full the resort was during our stay, as it felt so quiet and peaceful, almost like it was only 30% full, which I doubt it was in high season. I was disappointed to see that our room was adjoining another. Thankfully, no one checked-in next door until our last night. This made a less restful experience, as we could hear their every move through the door. The beds were very comfortable and the room temperate was perfect. Our balcony was a lovely place to sit out and read. The general atmosphere in the hotel was relaxed and slow. I didn’t hear loud laughter and talking or phones ringing and audio playing. This made it really peaceful for all. We really enjoyed our dinners in Portofino and breakfasts in World Café. The attendant at breakfast (brown hair) was so welcoming and genuine. She really made the experience so pleasant. Unfortunately, I cannot remember her name. We tried Oceana for dinner one evening and liked that, especially the beachy setting but still preferred Portofino. We tried the pool bar for lunches but weren’t so impressed: food was a little greasy and less fresh. Salads at World Café were fresh and tasty. The evening entertainment was enjoyable and relaxing but sound quality was a little poor - loud and off balance mostly. Our experiences ordering drinks left a lot to be desired. I felt like a nuisance ordering a simple drink from the pool bar and it put me off returning. The ordering system at the Piano Bar was complicated and inefficient, very slow. I felt that staff were stressed and rushed. The resort app was very useful and easy to use. I found the guest experience team very efficient and responsive to requests. I would recommend booking a Balinese bed for a special treat. The rental costs €35 for the day and comes with a delivery of cava and light snacks. I enjoyed going to Coco Café for a speciality coffee after breakfast. I attended the spa one afternoon to do the circuits. The cost was €35. It was pleasant and not too busy. The staff were very professional. We enjoyed the short stroll to Puerto Calero for an evening walk each day. The sea breeze was beautiful. We were able to go to the supermarket and to the souvenir shop here but the pharmacy offers only natural medicine, so if you’re in need of conventional medicines, you would need to go to Puerto del Carmen, which is only 25 mins by water bus (€18 return) or 15 mins by taxi (€15-20 one way). We also enjoyed the cats that live at the hotel; they are a cute addition! Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and hope to return again. Next time, I would request a regular room without adjoining door and a location far from reception for the peace and quiet. I would advise that the ordering system at Piano Bar is improved upon and perhaps some more staff added at busy times.

Not a 5-Star hotel Im affraid

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

We have just returned from a 10-night stay. We should have been staying at the Paradisus Melia Salinas in Costa Teguise but this was unfortunately still shut from the damage caused by the April floods. We have stayed in many 5-star hotels across Europe so have a lot of experience to compare to and unfortunately in our opinion this is not a 5-star hotel. This is what I would class as a low end 4-star hotel. Firstly, I must start with the very friendly and helpful reception team and concierges. The service we had from them was very good especially Konte, hats off to you all. We found most of the remaining staff to be the opposite. Staff that could barely raise a smile when you made conversation with them and tried to have a little laugh with them. They always seem to be walking around as if they really didn’t want to be there which made you not want to approach them. As for the hotel itself, it really does need updating to bring it up to a 5-star standard. The rooms, corridors, restaurants and surround outside areas need attention as they are looking very tired and in need of a refresh and in some instances repairing. In a few areas around the hotel there is a smell of sewage. This was even evident in our bathroom whenever you lifted the toilet seat. I had overheard other people saying the same. The buffet restaurant is a very big let down to this hotel. We only ate here at breakfast and lunch and were put off so stayed away in the evenings where on 4 or 5 occasions we went down to the marina for evening meals. The variation of food at breakfast and lunch was quite repetitive and not much of a selection. My wife likes vegetarian food but was very limited as meet and fish seem to be the theme every day. All hot food always seemed to be barley lukewarm so this was a disappointment. The hygiene needs to be looked at in this restaurant as on a daily basis you would see birds walking over the bread section eating the bread and also spotted quite a few flies on the hot and cold foods. The outdoor seating to the buffet were covered in old and fresh bird droppings and we struggled to find seats that were clean. We did have a few evening meals in the Portofino Italian restaurant and Bluewater Grill where we did find the food and menus very good. The only criticism with both restaurants was that the 3 courses came out in rapid fire as if they were in a rush to get you out. You didn’t have much of a break between each course. The hotel does have a very good no smoking/vaping policy through out the hotel but the designated smoking area needs to be reviewed. This was right next to the outside sushi bar where people were eating and also the main walkway went straight through this area so as a non-smoker you had no choice but to walk through. The hotel lacks outdoor seating for the evenings. We like to sit outside in the evenings but there is limited seating and a small bar with only 1 bar tender. For some reason this hotel has its nightly entertainment in the reception/foyer area which we found very strange. During the warm summer evenings holiday makers want to enjoy the outside and not be confined indoors. The hotel lacks any atmosphere outside in the evenings. Management needs to take a long look and review all aspects of this hotel to bring it up to the 5-start standard of many other hotels. We have stayed in 5-star adult only hotels in places like Turkey and the Greek Islands for less money or even the same and these go above and beyond to make their hotels perfection. This is not the case here so unfortunately, we will not be returning to this hotel all the time it remains like this.
