Royal Sonesta Kauai

This was a very disappointing start to our trip. Several weeks before arrival, I called the hotel to request connecting rooms, as my children were going to sleep in one room. I emphasized how important this was so I could easily access them. I was assured notes were added and even confirmed with a manager. At check-in, Ana assisted us. When I mentioned the connecting rooms, she repeatedly said we had two rooms, without acknowledging the request and showed little interest in helping. I also asked about a potential Expedia upgrade benefit, which she quickly denied, stating the hotel was “fully committed.” However, when I expressed concern about the connecting rooms, she mentioned one was available, for an additional fee. It was frustrating to hear that nothing was available for an upgrade as per my Expedia benefits , yet rooms could “appear” if we paid more.I asked if the fee could be waived given the prior request, but she declined and said she would check with a manager. After a few minutes, she returned saying the manager would not accommodate the upgrade without a fee. The manager never came out to speak with us. We were ultimately given two separate rooms. Since we couldn’t leave our kids alone, my spouse and I had to split up and stay in separate rooms on our 20th anniversary. We had packed belongings together including toiletries, so we had to go back and forth between rooms constantly which made it very inconvenient. The location is great but poor customer service and not guest focused.

Our first trip to Kauai after spending 4 nights in Maui. Very different vibe here much more relaxed, less commercial and the people seem more friendly. A big shout out to Kailiand Daena who were super helpful in recommending some great outings including the zodiac boat trip along the cost and going to the canyon. Highly recommend hiring a car from the airport and using the hotel shuttle to collect and return etc. good location and newly refurbished rooms.

My family absolutely love that hotel . Beautiful grounds , beautiful pool , nice beach and beautifully renovated room with ocean / pool views . The energy was amazing. We were driving around the island so it was a great location for us , also the airport is just few minutes away but you can not hear any noise from it. We went couple times to Dukes and the food was pretty good and you still have amazing views . Just a walking distance from the hotel there are 2 coffee / breakfast shops . They offer delicious coffee , homemade bagels etc. I am so happy that my husband found this hotel because it was just perfect for our needs , I would love to come back!!!

We originally booked a standard room, but at check-in we decided to upgrade to a suite, and it was worth every penny. The suite was spacious, comfortable, and made our stay even more enjoyable. One of the biggest perks is the ample free parking, so there’s no need to pay for hotel parking. The beach is just steps from the rooms, making it incredibly convenient to enjoy the ocean whenever you like. There are also plenty of dining options both within the resort and nearby, so you’ll never run out of places to eat. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would happily return.

Stayed 6 nights due to a conference. Many complaints from colleagues. Arrived to dirty rooms, blood on walls, stains on curtains, wash cloth in bathroom, bug in bed, hairs on night stands. Due to being full, difficult to change rooms, you need to get on waitlist. Room service/cleaning is every other day. No leis or welcome music. The bellhops forget about your luggage, so you have to fetch yourself. Parking is very faraway. Make sure to get the wristbands from the front desk for pool usage! For 500$ a night you expect more from a resort. This felt more like a budget hotel that didn't care about you, but wanted you to write a nice review on TripAdvisor. The rooms are loud with noising furniture on wheels moving about and reverberating through walls. It sounds like construction is going on. Difficult to get a good nights sleep, although I do see many flight attendants checking in. Pool closes at 10pm. Free fire pits turned off early around 9pm, which has you going near Kukui restaurant fire pits. Only thing is, this is for paying guests of the KuKui restaurant bar. They don't care if you have a wrist band or not, you won't be able to sit in this area. The fire torches around the property turn off early at 9pm. There is a large cruise ship that docks nearby and supposedly the place gets flooded with cruise-folks for two days. If you want silverware for your room - go to Kukui's restaurant for it. The staff will tell you that you can only have plastic wear, untrue No restaurant service at the pool. We didn't get staff coming up to us with menu's asking if we wanted to order anything. Instead, you have to walk to the bar. The catch is, in order buy at the bar you have to cover up your swimsuit. My friend's daughter was asked to cover up in her swimsuit while she was ordering an Acai bowl. The waitress went further and gave her attitude. My friends daughter was visibly upset repeating the waitresses unkind manners. Very difficult to find a front desk-manager. The good points are the grounds are well kept and lovely. The staff at Kukui's is very nice. Service is good there. Eventually was able to speak to a manager, who was helpful in escalating the poor stay, but stay was already halfway done and very frustrating. Sharing my experience so no one has to deal with this for 6 nights. I think it is is more of a 2 night stay kind of place. I am sure with a shorter stay a dirty hotel room, disturbed sleep, and service with attitude is more easy to forget. I read poor reviews before staying, but I saw that Royal Sonesta Lihue had been remodeled. I figured I would give the hotel a shot. Unfortunately 6 nights was too long.
