Like Fado music and the beloved dish, bacalao, the Bairro Alto Hotel captures the savory, complex character of Portugal, beginning with its setting on Luis de Camoes, Lisbon's main square. Combining refined contemporary furnishings and the classic architectural elements of a beautifully restored building, celebrated designer Grace Leo-Andrieu has crafted a true urban oasis. You will be enchanted at every turn, whether admiring the traditional azulejo tile work, gazing over the Tagus River or dining in the stylish Flores restaurant.A dynamic history makes Lisbon a playground for lovers of culture. Get your bearings at Jeronimos Monastery, where views gaze over the tiled rooftops of the city's many rolling hills. Wandering the cobblestone streets of the Alfama district yields encounters with colorful markets and lively taverns, while day tripping to nearby Sintra introduces you to one of the country's most picturesque towns. Make sure to stop for a signature lunch of salt cod and vinho verde in the main square.

Excellent hotel with clean spacious rooms . Staff extremely helpful and courteous . When we arrived girl friend wasn’t feeling well and hotel staff jumped to make her as comfortable as possible . Breakfast is very good and views from restaurant and rooftop bar are breathtaking.

We didn't stay here, but it appears relatively small, very clean and welcoming. Visited their rooftop bar 3 nights. Fab staff and service. View is magnificent. A little pricey, but worth it for this level of experience and service. Well worth a visit!

I expected more for a boutique hotel. The room is extremely small. The sink and bathroom are tiny. Very little space. The shower head is loose and water leaking. The water drainage is bad. There was a guy, maybe working for contriction, just barged in our room without knocking. And just to find out he was in the wrong room. We don’t call for the service. Extremely rude. The service front desk never said hello properly and cordially. The restaurant on the 5th floor took more than 30 minutes to make one little order. We ordered two small bites and they delivered only one. After waiting for a while, we had to cancel that order since we needed to take off for dinner. The rooftop dining, though the view was nice, also took forever just to deliver an order of a scoop of ice cream. We have travelled the world and this is not the boutique hotel experience. It’s extremely expensive for almost 2000 euro for a tiny room for subpar services.. The hotel is 3 stars at best.

We only have positives for this hotel. It is very well located. The staff are friendly and accommodating. Our concierge gave us helpful tourism information and instructed our taxi drivers for us. The catering staff put on an early breakfast for us, with no notice, before we had to leave for a flight. We also received a lovely gift of a small bottle of port, a beautiful soap and 2 of their special custard tarts. Our room was small but tastefully outfitted and there was a large bathroom with two showers. One of the highlights was the breakfasts as the room had stunning views over the city and they served such interesting dishes (e.g. eggs on the top of pea puree). Thank you.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights in May 1925. This was a bit of a splurge and the cost per night was certainly more than advertised initially when booked however, this is a five star hotel and if you have the money it’s worth it. We had a lovely room Overlooking the street with a peekaboo view of the river. The design and decoration of the rooms was unique, and special as was the quality.
