A most splendid experience!

We travel a lot and this has been added to the list of favourite hotels I have ever been to. This place screams quiet luxury with old school charm and radiates traditional style opulence. From the minute you arrive you are treated like royalty, from the valet parking, to being able to order whatever you like (no menu!) at breakfast, in addition to the lovely buffet. The staff can’t do enough for you, yet no one is giving you the impression you need to tip. They held your door when you got into and out of your car. The concierge gave us plenty of advice on restaurants and was incredibly helpful and kind. The property is gorgeous – beautiful old style and well maintained. There is a superbly maintained little river full of wildlife – lots of fish and turtles including several baby ones – we saw them if we looked carefully and quietly every day. The large swimming pool was the perfect temperature and size, sunbeds were plentiful (it was quite quiet when we went), and the pool staff come and give you towels on each sunbed and bring you umbrellas if you need. We loved our room – again traditional style. Huge room, comfortable bed, balcony overlooking the pool, huge bathroom, lovely toiletries always replenished. They do a proper old school turndown service here with slippers put out for you beside your bed and little snacks. We loved it so much. The location is in a quiet area, but you can walk to a few restaurants, or just get a taxi into a busier place a few minutes drive away. We could fault nothing at this hotel and we were sad to leave. I would definitely want to stay here again if I return to Lisbon.

This is a beautiful hotel with excellent service. The rooms are spacious and immaculate. The pool area and garden are gorgeous. We hardly left the hotel except to have dinner each evening in one of the lovely local restaurants. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Beautiful hotel with such a pleasant professional staff. We only stayed two nights, but wish it was longer. Wonderful time!

The Absolute best in Lisbon. A grand classic hotel with fabulous views, the largest private garden, the nicest pool, perfect staff and an overall elegance that is rarely seen these days. We love it and keep coming back for the last 28 years!

Overall, one of the best European (or anywhere!) 5 star hotel experiences of my life.

This hotel....The Ritz in Paris is $2 -44 K/night. The equivalent experience--actually better. Nestled around multiple embassies and diplomatic residences, in Lapa, the hill overlooking the Tugas and Lisbon. Unbelievable architecture, incredible service, great food. Quiet. Great piano bar open late. Politesse among the staff that goes beyond friendly and is unrecognizable in today's world. The concierge picked up medicine for one of our family members and guided his medical care when he fell ill. Super grateful for that unexpected generosity. Rooms were spacious, immaculate. Beds were comfortable. Balcony with view of the city and the river. Swimming pool and spa--we didn't use them--too busy touring-- but they were beautiful. Overall, one of the best European (or anywhere!) 5 star hotel experiences of my life. We will be back!!
