Pousada de Lisboa - Praca do Comercio

My husband and I just finished a stay at Pousada de Lisboa, and I'm writing this so the next couple doesn't pay what we paid for what we got. The hotel sits in a beautiful historic building. That's where the compliments end. Our first room was essentially the attic, two flights of stairs up, and yes, we carried our luggage up both of them. When we told the front desk we didn't want that room, they moved us to one they said was two categories higher. It faced another building so closely that we couldn't open the blinds without people looking straight into our room. Two categories higher, apparently, means you live with the shades down. The hallways are dark and hot. The food was mediocre. Housekeeping was cold, and that attitude runs through the whole property: everyone there acts like they're doing you a favor. The worst of it came when we left. We booked a private car through the hotel from Lisbon to Porto, and the hotel charged us €650. About 25 minutes outside Porto, a tire blew out and we were stranded on the side of the road. My husband unloaded our luggage and helped the driver try to inflate the tire. We called an Uber that got lost more than once. The driver finally reached another car service to get us the rest of the way. We asked the hotel for a refund. They refused. They kept every euro of a €650 transfer that left us on the shoulder of a highway. I travel constantly and rarely write reviews like this. Pousada de Lisboa has the location and the building. What it lacks is any sense that the guest matters. Stay somewhere else.

Underwhelmed by our stay. The positives : Good central location if you want that, nicely maintained rooms in a grand building that used to house the Ministry of Interior. Our room had a nice view of the Praca. The criticisms were principally around the lacklustre staff performance. Not their fault, they obviously weren’t trained or managed well enough by their superiors. When we were shown our room we were just told there’s free coffee and then the staff member left. We were given inaccurate advice about the metro. No one manned the pool area before 7pm so there were no towels. One of the breakfast options said Eggs Benedict above a description of Eggs Florentine, I didn’t notice the small print so much as I love spinach I was surprised, when questioning the header I was told “That’s how Benedict comes in Portugal.” This isn’t how a 5 star hotel should conduct itself. There are better establishments in Lisbon.

Our stay at Pousada de Lisboa was truly exceptional. This beautiful boutique luxury hotel is perfectly located in the heart of Lisbon, making it the ideal base for exploring the city while enjoying a peaceful and elegant retreat. From the moment we arrived, the service was outstanding. A special thank you to Katarina for making our check-in experience so welcoming and seamless—her warmth, professionalism, and attention to detail set the tone for our entire stay. We were also fortunate to have incredible views overlooking the Lisbon stadium, which gave us the perfect spot to enjoy the lively World Cup watch parties and experience the excitement of the city from the comfort of our room. The staff throughout the hotel were exceptional, providing genuine hospitality that went far beyond our expectations. The food, service, and attention to detail were outstanding, creating a truly memorable experience. We also greatly appreciated the hotel’s gracious flexibility in accommodating our late check-out request, which made our final hours in Lisbon even more enjoyable. Pousada de Lisboa is a true gem and the perfect choice for travelers looking for luxury, comfort, and authentic Portuguese hospitality in an unbeatable central location.

Pousada de Lisboa ranks as one of the best hotels I’ve stayed at. Location is perfect for access to everything for a visitor to Lisbon; the building is historic with many artifacts, almost like a museum; rooms are well appointed with premium amenities and are meticulously cleaned every day on a timely basis; it’s hard to beat the large breakfast buffet; the staff are well trained, professional and friendly. The staff noted my gluten free diet and provided specially prepared bread and pastry items for me at breakfast each day, without any fuss (see pic). My wife and I couldn’t have been treated any better anywhere else … many thanks, Pousada!

We stayed at the Posada Hilton Hotel and it was a very nice experience. Very clean, exceptional service and great location. I'd give it five stars. Beautiful delicious morning breakfast buffet: anything you want.
