Amazing Lisbon hotel in a great location

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

If it was possible, this Sofitel exceed the experience we had at one in Greece not long ago. The greeting was the same as you get when visiting friends/family after not seeing them for a long time. Christina at the front desk spoke amazing English along w many other languages and was like the daughter we were visiting after awhile away. The whole staff was so accommodating and took time to answer any questions and even walked us to the train station to help us buy a pass to use the public transportation. The concierge, Piedro(sp) recommended an amazing restaurant close by and gave us countless recs on things to see and do. The hotel breakfast was everything you could possibly want, w an a la carte menu and buffet that was quite good. And the diner we had at the hotel was as good as any we’ve had at any restaurant anywhere, though the service was better w our waiter Leo, one of the most charming people we got to chat with. You have to try the fish stew, an amazing dish we are all still talking about. Whether it was just conversing with the various desk people or the other service ones who do it all, Diego(sp) or Andre(sp), the staff was terrific and gave you the sense that they truly cared and appreciated our businesss, a feeling not often provided any more. Even though you don’t spend a lot of time in a hotel when touring and exploring, when you are there, it’s a great feeling to have being so comfortable. This Sofitel chain knows how to do it all!

A Well-Appointed Stay with Minor Hiccups

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

This hotel is a solid choice with plenty to appreciate, though a few refinements could elevate the experience. Our Junior Suite was tastefully designed with a stunning view, which added to the stay. However, some upkeep would go a long way—the window shade on the slanted window was broken, which was a minor inconvenience, and the Bose sound system remained a mystery to us. As for location, it’s slightly removed from the main sightseeing areas, but it does offer easy access to luxury shopping, which may appeal to certain travelers. The pedestrian boulevard outside is also a highlight—a beautiful spot for a relaxing stroll. The standout feature, without a doubt, was the service. The staff was exceptionally attentive and friendly, making sure we felt welcomed throughout our stay.

Uncomfortable Rooms

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We were really excited to stay at Sofitel as this would have been our first experience either the brand. While the hotel lobby is beautiful and the rooms looks nice at initial glance, the hotel is aged. Check in process - simple but they put a large hold on your credit card. I have never seen that before. For 4 nights, they put a 1k hold. We checked in at noon and while our booking made us eligible for early check in, the room was not available. The hotel seemed packed. They did hold on to our bags so we didn't have to drag 'em around. The rooms The rooms are oddly designed. There are individual AC units in the room, which helps when it gets warm, which it does. There is a small closet and some drawers for your clothes and a bath robe. The bed is large but the hotel uses a pillow top to make the bed comfortable. However, the pillow top is old and deformed. There are large bumps between the two sides of the bed, making it uncomfortable if you are trying to sleep in the middle. The outlets are also horribly designed. There are no outlets with easy access, esp none next to the bed. There are 2 USB on one side of the bed, but neither were functional. The outlet is under the side table. I had to unplug the phone to plug in my phone. Which btw, results in the phone beeping in the middle of the night on the 2nd night b/c of low battery. The worst though is the bathroom. Unfortunately, the toilet is not in a separate room or behind closed doors so that means the bathroom is unusable by another if one is on the toilet. Additionally, there's no ventilation in the bathroom so as soon as you open the bathroom door, the room is filled with the smells of the toilet. The shower is also odd. It's a long shower but you have to stand all the way inside to use the shower. And you have to step outside of the water to get soap. The shower floor is also slippery so you have to be careful when moving around to get soap. The towels also do not dry b/c there's no circulation in the bathroom. We showered at 4 pm and the towel was still damp the following morning. If this wasn't enough, the sink is also oddly designed. The tap is right in the middle of the sink, which makes it impossible to wash your face. Lastly, I am not sure who decided to lock the lotion bottle right next to the toilet. You basically have to stand all the way in the bathroom and next to the toilet for lotion. I am not sure why they wouldn't allow you to take the lotion bottle into the room. Hotel grounds The lobby bar is great and the bartenders really enjoy working there. The drinks are great, expensive but good. The breakfast is good as well but it's always full. Doesn't matter what time of the day you go, it's busy. Overall it's an okay hotel. I would rate it 3 stars given the lack of comfort in the room and bathroom. It's remodeled to make it look like a 5 star but the remodeling needs another remodeling.

From the moment I entered this hotel, everything and everyone was perfect. Beautiful hotel lobby and compact, updated room with sumptuous amenities. The hotel’s restaurant was amazing. The food was so excellent and the waitstaff were highly trained and friendly. For an added surprise, the lobby featured a jazz duo (piano and bass) the evening I checked in. I know there are plenty of hotels in Lisbon, but I cannot believe any of them shine brighter than The Sofitel.

Good hotel stay but costly

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Hotel is in a great location, reasonable to walk to many of the city sites. Rooms are small but clean and comfortable. Daily breakfast was over crowded and hotel did not have enough staff to take care of all guests. Hotel staff was otherwise nice and accommodating. For the price, you may find better options
