We stayed at the Sofitel Lisbon Liberdade in late July 2025, following the conclusion of a Mediterranean cruise. We had been somewhat overwhelmed by the choices of hotels in the city and landed on this one given the positive reputation of the Sofitel brand and its location along Av. da Liberdade. Indeed, its location was a major feature, as we easily made our way on foot to Principe Real, Bairro Alto, Baixa de Lisboa, and the waterfront. (Just be prepared for hills, as you would in most places in Lisbon!) We walked to Rossio Station one day to catch a train to Sintra and another day, we went the other direction to catch the on/off bus tours at their central location. As Canadians, we also loved that Av. da Liberdade was a tree-filled avenue with a separate, central walking corridor dotted small cafes, much like you would see in Barcelona. We don't have those kinds of streets back home! We loved how quiet our room and floor were for the duration of our stay. While we didn't eat at the restaurant, the menu and food looked great. Hotel staff were pleasant and helpful, including offering evening turndown service, which we didn't use. There were some small areas for improvement at the Sofitel that I didn't expect at a higher end hotel. First, the wifi was surprisingly slow. Second, some aspects of the room didn't work: the fan for the bathroom (it got pretty steamy in there and started making the room humid) and the safe. Finally, when we arrived early, the check-in desk told us they'd text us when our room was ready, but they did not. These were small concerns with the experience, but overall, we were quite pleased with the hotel.

The Sofitel is a nice hotel in an amazing location close to shopping and the main attractions of Lisbon. The rooms were not super roomy but were clean and well maintained. The bathroom, in particular, I found a little bit cramped, but was well appointed, and was mostly well lit. The shower was a bit dark for my liking since there was no light in the shower, but having a standing shower was a major plus. My biggest complaint though—and the reason why I couldn't give this hotel a perfect score—is that our room had a strange musty smell, and the lobby oftentimes smelled slightly of sewage. The problem with the smell in the room was specific to our room, as we had family staying in another room on the same floor and their room had absolutely no smell.

We stayed at the hotel for our 25th anniversary and had a wonderful time. The hotel is very well located and has been updated since my previous visit pre covid. We were treated way beyond our expectations by the hotel and staff and are very grateful. We stayed in the Opera suite which has the outside balcony/terrace which is very comfortable, had breakfast every morning which was very good and has a good selection of food. We also had a very enjoyable meal at Matiz. A big thanks to all who work there and made our stay very memorable. Definately on our return list.

Sofitel Liberdade is located an easy walk to most touristy locations in Lisbon. Located on a beautiful tree lined street, it is a safe area to walk in the evenings, even a lady alone. Staff were very accomodating and quick to provide anything I needed. A phone call to house keeping would find someone at my door within 2 minutes with additional water, milk, coffee pods or even an ironing board - whatever I required. Room service was also quick and delicious. Try the scrambled eggs with bread room service for breakfast! Delicious and very filling. Matiz restaurant is a relaxed place for a meal. Staff were attentive and I appreciated their suggestions and wine tastings to pair with meals. The airport transfers were also smooth and efficient. Overall, a memorable stay Sofitel. Thank you.

Recently stayed for two nights at this hotel. Great staff - friendly and efficient. Perfect location, an easy walk into the main square. Room was ok and a lovely comfortable bed with blackout curtains = a good sleep! Superb restaurant attached too. You can’t go wrong - I will be back. Thank you
