We loved this hotel. The rooms were large and modern. The bathroom was beautiful. Service was excellent. The help at the main desk was also excellent. Breakfast was amazing! It’s about a 10 minute walk to the center of the old town.

Intercontinental is never known for true luxury or great customer service but even by its standards, this is a let down. I made reservation several days in advance and requested them for transportation to the hotel. They confirmed the transportation but when I arrived at the airport there was no one to pick me up. I waited for 30 minutes and then called the hotel. They said someone will be there shortly. I waited for another 20 minutes and called again. Then I was told the driver will be there in 10 minutes. After 15 minutes, the driver calls and tells me that he just got a request from the hotel and he will be at the hotel in about 35 minutes because of the traffic. I just gave up at that point and took a taxi to the hotel. After a long international flight, waiting for more than an hour just for the car is ridiculous. And when I finally arrived at the hotel, the bell staff were just standing there and staring at people and no one offered help with the luggage. So, I had to carry the luggage to the reception and same thing again when I left the hotel, had to take it by myself to the taxi. Bell staff were just standing there looking. What is a 5 star hotel if they can’t even help with luggage? When I checked in, there was no room upgrade even though as a Platinum Ambassador (was a Diamond until recently but have cut down staying at Intercontinental hotels) I should get a ‘guaranteed upgrade’ and IHG actually takes money for Ambassador status. I asked the receptionist if he can lower my rate to a lower level room so my current suite will be an upgrade. He said he can’t do it because I prepaid for the room. So, basically I got no upgrade or a lowered rate. So much for Ambassador status! Throughout the stay there were only a couple of folks who even said ‘hello’ or smiled, otherwise most of the staff looked like they didn’t want to be there. Neither did I. Hotel is in a convenient central location. There are several restaurants, coffee shops, grocery stores etc. near by. Old town is just a short walk away.

A Lovely City Break Location This is a beautiful hotel, 20 Stories tall and a grand structure it is. It is located a swift 5 min walk from bus station and easy to walk even with full luggage, It is also located close to many of the main attractions and squares with a good selection of bars and restaurants within minutes away. We were given a warm welcome and as we were early (12:00) it was too early for normal check in, but the receptionist made a call and we were advised the room could be ready by 13:00 – 2 hours earlier than we expected. Bonus. And it was available in that time scale. We just had a quick walk around and then relaxed in the lovely reception area – such comfortable chairs. The room was lovely and we had a good corner room so had view from many angles. The bathroom was huge with a big shower unit an free standing bath which looked very inviting, so much so that I actually had a bath one evening, something I wouldn’t usually do on holiday. And my daughter also had one and it was so relaxing. The room was kept to a very high standard and I utilised the NESPRESSO machine a couple of times each day. Room had standard IGH Toiletries and big fluffy towels. Just makes the difference. Gym had uptodate equipment in good condition. Pool was ideal for an hour after a day of sightseeing, as was the hot tub and sauna. Staff were always helpful and friendly. We didn’t use bars or restaurants, but I saw they always had plenty of customers and looked good. 5Star hotel and I totally agree it is 5star standard.

Wanted to end this trip nicely for my sister. Booked both rooms to be able to access club lounge. One room King Premium and the other Twin. Booking was under my husband’s name as he’s a platinum member but when I checked in, the front desk lady treated the booking as normal, no upgrade of any rooms. She also took ages to check us in. I saw her tag is a Student so we should be patient. But again all supervisors should ensure “students” are supervise well and if they are so slow and clueless, they must immediately chip in and assist her. Either that or ensure she’s really up to speed before she can front the desk. Twin room on 17th floor is ok but is noisy, constant pounding of noise from upstairs gym, or pool or don’t know what. Gym is not 24hrs so you’ve to go to reception before 6:30am to ask security to open it for you. Equipments are old, hope they upgrade the weights machine soon. Shower is easy to operate though the shower jet is very weak. Spa area is filled with people between 3-5pm. Pool is small, 4 strokes you reach the other end. Jacuzzi is not working well, sauna is ok, steam room could be hotter. Floor is rather filthy as cleaner doesn’t seem to clean it often or properly. Club lounge 5-7pm is disappointing, luckily they serve drinkable wine. Happy hour hot food can do a lot better. There’s no club breakfast, you dine breakfast with everyone else on 20th floor which is pleasant but filled with people if you head there after 8:30am. Location is good. Is walking distance to the main square and action is. Their selling point is their location. But for the price I paid, is not worth paying for the club lounge access and should have paid myself to have a better room. Lots of great resto outside and price of good quality wine are excellent, no need the lounge.
