One of London's best-kept secrets, the Connaught nestles in the heart of fashionable Mayfair in an area of charming antique shops, galleries, and designer boutiques. Built in 1897, this member of Maybourne Hotel Group preserves an air of Edwardian elegance that promises an experience that can be compared to a stay in an English country manor. One of the world's most distinguished addresses has recently undergone a multi-million dollar restoration that has brought the hotel well and truly into the 21st century, while still preserving the elegance so beloved of its guests. An effortless blending of original art and antiques alongside the latest in modern facilities, high levels of service, and fine cuisine serve illustrate why this is the hotel of choice for many.

A Masterclass in Hospitality at The Connaught Five-star review — Mayfair, London Rating: 5 / 5 ★★★★★ Overall Impression Our recent stay at The Connaught reaffirmed why this Mayfair landmark sits comfortably among the very finest hotels in the world. From the moment we arrived to the moment we reluctantly checked out, every interaction was characterized by a rare combination of warmth, polish, and effortless competence. The hotel manages the difficult trick of feeling grand without ever feeling stiff, and personal without ever feeling intrusive. The Staff — The Heart of the Hotel If a hotel is only as good as the people who run it, The Connaught is exceptional precisely because its staff are exceptional. What stood out to us was not any single grand gesture, but the consistency of attentiveness across every department and every shift. Doormen, concierges, housekeeping, room service, and front-desk colleagues all seemed to share the same instinct: to anticipate rather than react, and to treat guests as individuals rather than reservation numbers. By our second day we were being greeted by name by people we had not yet formally met, which speaks to a culture of communication and genuine care behind the scenes. Breakfast Breakfast was a small daily highlight rather than a routine refueling stop. The servers were solicitous without hovering, quick without rushing, and unfailingly cheerful at an hour when not every guest is. Coffee arrived promptly, refills appeared before we noticed they were needed, and special requests were handled with a smile and dispatched without fuss. The pacing of the meal struck exactly the right rhythm — brisk for those heading out into London, leisurely for those wanting to linger over the papers. The Coburg Bar The Coburg Bar deserves special mention. On our visit, the maitre d’ was the picture of attentive, welcoming professionalism. He recognized us as hotel residents and, despite a long line of non-resident guests waiting for a table, seated us immediately. That gesture made an impression that has stayed with us. It was not merely a matter of convenience — it was a tangible signal that staying at the hotel meant something, and that the staff understood the difference between simply running a busy room and looking after the guests in their care. The drinks, the atmosphere, and the unhurried elegance of the room more than lived up to the bar’s formidable reputation. Rooms and Public Spaces The accommodations are quietly luxurious in the way only a truly confident hotel can be: beautifully appointed without ostentation, immaculately maintained, and engineered for genuine comfort. Beds, linens, bathrooms, and lighting are all of the standard one would hope for at this level. The public spaces — the lobby, the corridors, the lounges — carry that distinctive Connaught blend of heritage and contemporary refinement, and they reward the guest who slows down enough to notice the details. Location The Connaught’s position on Carlos Place puts the best of Mayfair, Bond Street, Hyde Park, and the West End within an easy walk. Taxis are summoned in moments by the door staff, and the surrounding streets reward exploration on foot. It is, simply, one of the most pleasant addresses in London. Final Thoughts There are many fine hotels in London. There are very few that combine architectural elegance, culinary excellence, and a service culture that feels uniformly thoughtful from the front door to the bar to the breakfast room. The Connaught is one of them. We left grateful and already planning a return visit, and we would recommend it without hesitation to any traveler who values being genuinely well looked after. Highly recommended.

I’m not sure I’ve ever been to a hotel with such exceptional service. Bars, food, we’re all 11/10. Can’t recommend enough.

The ultimate quality over quantity.

When we last stayed at the Connaught more than six years ago, we had a tiny room from which we heard everything in adjoining rooms and the hallways. When we complained at check out, the duty manager promised us an upgrade on our next stay. Impressively enough, when I called last month to book a room, the reservation agent found the record. True to its word, the Connaught upgraded us - to a spectacular and somewhat eccentrically Elizabethan junior suite on the fifth floor with double height peaked ceiling, a supremely comfortable four poster bed, a luxurious bathroom, and an adjoining tiny study. The room had the usual overcomplicated and inscrutable lighting controls, but was otherwise lovely - sunlit and large. The welcoming gift of satsumas and a bottle of the house Negroni was much appreciated. We had only two issues during our stay. The first (mentioned in other reviews as well) is the overpowering proprietary floral scent that wafts throughout the hotel - much too much of a good thing. The second was that despite our having received both email and oral confirmations at check in of our reservation at the Connaught Bar, the hostess there had no record of it - and seemed a bit skeptical of our claims even when we showed her the email; it took a little too long to resolve the confusion and, while we appreciated that our cocktails were comped, the glitch was jarringly inconsistent with the otherwise excellent service. Nevertheless, the personal attention, convenient location, and wonderful breakfasts make the Connaught an excellent if somewhat extravagant choice to stay.

"My wife and I just returned from England. We purchased the Lygon Arms/Connaught package from Luxury Link.
I wanted to let you know that everything was provided as promised. Our suites at both The Lygon Arms and The Connaught were truly outstanding. In fact, our suite in London was perhaps one of the finest accommodations that we have ever experienced anywhere in the world."

"The Connaught was the best hotel experience, in years of travel, topping every world-wide luxury lodging in all respects. Given that we are 'road warriors' who travel the globe frequently, staying at the best hotels, this is a huge accolade. We never want to stay anywhere else! From the initial welcome, all the service from General Manager Anthony Lee's team was memorable. Our suite was the ultimate in luxury with a bed of perfection. The butler and staff were helpful, anticipating our every need. The Dining Room and Grill Room decors are fresh from a Nina Campbell makeover, with a new Gordon Ramsey protégé in charge, orchestrating the dining experience, which is all the rage of the London food scene. Every ingredient in every meal was special, from breakfast to tea and dinner, all including superb professional service. That this unique combination of comfort and style with such new-trend dining is available in such a historic environment is a testament to Mr. Lee. We are glad to know that this level of hotel experience still exists in today's world. We are eager to return and hopefully establish a corporate account at The Connaught for future business travel!"
