Reviews for Great Scotland Yard Hotel London

Great location, facilities, BUT

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

The management here took a small disconcerting incident with housekeeping and turned it into a series of emails with non-“apologies” and gaslighting. Great location, good facilities, but management absolutely ruined any good will I had towards the hotel. Also, they include a 5% service charge that you need to ask to take off the bill at the end of your stay ( if you so choose). They would not remove at check-in, so the card hold amount will include an extra 5%.

Wonderful stay

This hotel was everything and more. We had such a wonderful stay; the whole hotel smells beautiful, everywhere is clean and there is always something quirky to catch your eye. Rooms are clean, have a lovely array of toiletries, and the beds are comfy and cosy. Our stay was made even better by Lorcan; his genuine care, humour and attention made us feel very welcome and he added the sparkle to our special trip - thank you, Lorcan. All staff were very pleasant, and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was delicious and set us up for the day. We’d love to return to this perfectly located hotel.

Beautiful Rooms But Inconsistent Staff.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

The room was beautiful and the staff that I interacted with were very personable and professional but, I was left worried when a staff member accessed my room while I was in bed and mortified when I was refused service in one of the bars because they wouldn't accept a hotel voucher that I was told would be accepted. I contacted this hotel before I arrived to let them know that I did not want alcohol of any sort in my room. They replied and thanked me for letting them know and told me that they would note that there was to be no alcohol in my room during my stay... I arrived and there was wine in the room. On day two, they had fully restocked my room with alcoholic drinks including spirits. Additionally, I was in bed on the morning of day two when the doorbell rang once and someone immediately entered my room. It turned out that it was a housekeeper who didn't tell me who she was or give me an opportunity to ask her not to come in. Simply ring and enter immediately is what she did. I shouted NO and she apologised then closed the door before she could see me in bed which was behind the door. I reported this to reception who told me that she should have knocked the door or rang the bell three times before she came into the room and they apologised. A short while later, the housekeeping manager rang me to arrange a suitable time to have my room made up. We agreed 3:00 p.m. but, when I returned later that evening, my room had not been tended to. There was a notice on the door saying that they were sorry they could not clean my room due to a tag on the door handle saying that the room was occupied... I had forgotten to remove it. That's exactly what the sign said... the room was occupied. The Do Not Disturb notice was separate to this and was not displayed outside the door. In any case, hotel staff disregarded the sign and entered my room to leave a fruit platter to apologise for the issues I had had earlier. When I queried why one staff member felt it was ok to enter the room to leave gifts, but the person who I had explicitly agreed could enter the room chose not to, I was told that some departments can bypass those signs while others cannot. I find that simply ridiculous. In any case, the receptionist arranged to have my room cleaned and gave me a voucher for a free drink at one of the bars in the hotel while it was being done. I checked with the receptionist which bar I should go to and they told me that I had a choice, however, when I tried to use the voucher in one of the bars, the barman told me that he couldn't accept the voucher that I presented as payment. I had to go to a specific bar in the hotel. I was mortified. I booked a trip to London because I needed a break. My mother and sister died within the last 12 months and work was stressful. I chose this hotel because I was I had heard that it was luxurious, they had toto toilets in all the rooms which I need because of my disability and they paid attention to the small stuff. I thought it would be almost uneventful. It was anything but. Was this hotel worth the money that I paid for it? Not even close.
