Reviews for The Kensington

A Truly Special Stay, Consistently Exceptional Service and Comfort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

I always enjoy staying at The Kensington Hotel. The rooms are beautifully designed, and the beds are exceptionally comfortable. I especially appreciate the high-quality toiletries provided—they add a nice touch of luxury. The bathrooms and rooms are very clean, and the beds are always spotless and well made. The public spaces are stunning, classy, traditional, yet inviting and comfortable. The Town House restaurant is beautiful, and the breakfast is truly exceptional, with delicious food cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. I hope they never switch to a buffet style, as the current experience is far more enjoyable. The staff throughout the hotel, from Beth in reservations to the gentleman at reception, the Scottish switchboard operator, and the restaurant team, are all incredibly attentive and dedicated. Their warmth and professionalism elevate the entire experience and make me look forward to returning again and again.

Outstanding hotel. Emiliano and Boyan were a pleasure as always. Emiliano and the concierge team is so professional and helpful! Always there to help. The whole staff makes you feel like your home. Amazing location, food, bar and amenities make the Hotel our place to go in London! We love returning and heading out to a Wimbledon match or Stockbridge for fly fishing! A wonderful place and beautiful setting!

Quintessentially English

A very warm welcome greeted our early arrival from Daisy on reception. As we were early our room was not ready so we had a stroll to Kensington gardens before our return. Daisy recognised our accent as a Derbyshire accent and chatted happily about the area. Upon entering our room Daisy had arranged flowers and sparkling wine to recognise our special occasion. We dined in the Town House pre-theatre and again service was as excellent as the high quality food. Breakfast is very busy so my advice would be to expect a slower pace of service as all food is to order and not buffet style. Our first stay at The Kensington was truly memorable

Disappointing

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We have stayed at The Kensington over many years and it has always been our preferred hotel when we stay in London. Unfortunately, our recent stay at the hotel did not match our previous experiences in a significant way. There were many things that happened during our stay that would never have happened previously, starting with the absence of a welcome drink on arrival. Our room was not ready when we arrived at 2pm and the receptionist said he would telephone us when it became ready. Unfortunately, no call was received so, unprompted, we returned to the hotel several hours later. There was no turn- down service with complimentary chocolate as had usually been the case previously. The toilet seat in the bathroom was broken on arrival, and, although a repair was attempted, it still did not function perfectly. The light in the wardrobe turned on spontaneously during the night waking us up on several occasions. We had initially booked breakfast for 3 mornings but cancelled this when we checked in and also during our stay. Despite this, when we checked out, we were initially charged to 2 breakfasts although this was subsequently taken off the bill. We requested that our invoice was emailed to us. Unfortunately this was not done and required a subsequent call to obtain the invoice. We then discovered that we had been overcharged and are awaiting a refund for this. We also found that that a "discretionary" service charge of 5% had been added to the bill without discussion. Our past experience with the Kensington was facilitated by an excellent, friendly service from staff, often with emphasis on the hotel’s Irish connection. Unfortunately, our recent experience suggests that this no longer appears to be the case. We have always enjoyed staying at The Kensington but unfortunately it is unlikely that we will return again.
