Incomparable Service and Timeless Elegance – Truly Perfect

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

The Montague on the Gardens is, quite simply, extraordinary. We stayed here in 2023 for our honeymoon, and it was the most incredible hotel experience we’ve ever had. Returning in December 2025 for afternoon tea felt like coming home — and the experience was just as impeccable as we remembered. From the moment we arrived, the door staff were wonderful, warmly greeting us and taking our coats. The hotel feels cozy, elegant, and welcoming in a way that is increasingly rare. Afternoon tea was absolutely lovely, and the service was flawless. Every staff member was kind, attentive, and made us feel like true VIPs. A special highlight was learning that the hotel keeps bees in the garden and produces its own honey. The staff shared the history of the hotel with us, including the Red Carnation story, with such pride and care. They even thoughtfully packed the honey for us to travel with, which was an incredibly kind and memorable touch. The level of service here is incomparable. Every detail is handled with warmth, grace, and genuine hospitality. I truly cannot rave highly enough — this hotel sets the gold standard for what exceptional service looks like. Absolutely perfect in every way.

This hotel has it all

We spent nine nights at the Montague on the Gardens. What a great experience. The hotel is conveniently located near the British Museum and Russell Square Park. Two tube stations (Russell Square and Hoburn) are within walking distance. If you can reserve room 30, do it. The room on the main floor has a king bed, two club chairs, a desk and a large closet with plenty of room to unpack and store your clothes. The bathroom is a good size, but you do have to step up to get into the tub/shower. No need to bring slippers or a robe because the hotel provides them. The doormen were uniformly friendly and helpful. They always greeted us with a smile. The bar is open late and the team is very hospitable. A limited menu is even available after 10 pm. The housekeeping staff should be commended for their work in keeping the room and bathroom cleaned and stocked. My only minor complaint is that the breakfast (continental or full English) is overpriced and with average food. We ended up going to a local restaurant near the British Museum for breakfast when we were not pressed for time. The hotel is beautifully decorated for the holidays and serves hot chocolate with trimmings in the afternoon.

Great hotel, exceptional staff

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Just stayed at The Montague on the Gardens and really enjoyed it. The hotel is beautiful and the location is spot on for getting around London, while still feeling calm and tucked away. Our room was comfortable and well put together, with good-quality bedding and solid sound insulation, which makes a big difference after a long day in the city. We also spent time in the bar and had a great evening there: relaxed atmosphere, a genuinely good selection of food and drinks, and live music that added to the vibe without taking over. What stood out most, though, was the team. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and professional — not just at reception and in the restaurant, but also the maintenance and cleaning staff. Always polite, always a friendly word at the ready. As I said to the concierge when we left: it’s easy to provide rooms in London; it only costs money. The difference here is the staff. The level of service is what makes guests feel welcome, and The Montague really gets that.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A perfect stay at The Montague on the Gardens

We recently stayed at The Montague on the Gardens as a family of four while celebrating our parents wedding anniversary, it was our second visit to this hotel. Like many other reviews, we would like to highlight the exceptional service. Mustafa and Konrad were outstanding, genuine ambassadors for the hotel. Their friendliness, professionalism, and thoughtful attention to detail made us feel genuinely valued. Whether helping with luggage, offering local tips for the uber boat ride, booking taxis or simply checking that we were enjoying our stay, they consistently went above and beyond. Our rooms were clean and comfortable (with plug in radiators for extra warmth) and we appreciated the quiet garden views. Breakfasts were good, we enjoyed the buffet style with omlettes and porridge made to order (though the dining area is rather small). The location was perfect for sightseeing, we could easily walk to Covent Garden and the Theatre district and the hotel is right opposite the British Museum. The hotel looked lovely decorated for Christmas and the hot chocolate station was a welcome treat on returning from a days sightseeing. Walking through Russell Square into Bernard Street we found a lovely small shopping area with restaurants and shops again beautifully lit up for Christmas. Highly recommended.
