Reviews for Sea Containers London

Excellent hotel stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 13 hours ago

Overall exception hotel. The most important for me is a good nights sleep and it was pin drop quiet with very comfortable beds and good black out curtains. Then cleanliness- everything clean and well organized. The location was excellent too right on the river with a walkway- next door to the Tate, a tube station, The Eye tons of restaurants. However in August the area is extremely touristy and busy to the point it is hard to even walk on it. The staff went out of their way to be helpful. My one complaint is the rooms were dark even with all the lights on. Yes it creates a nice ambiance but sometimes you just need to see where things are and there’s no option for that. Also very $$$.

Not 5 star and poor customer engagement

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 14 hours ago

*Update* so after Sea Containers Management commented on the original review below, they asked me to reach out to them, which I did. Weeks later, and still no reply. Seems to me that management comment on these reviews to give the appearance of engaging with customers when in reality, they clearly do not. My wife and I stayed here as the hotel we usually stay at was fully booked. We’d heard good things about Sea Containers so we’re excited for our stay. Location is great. Check in very smooth and our room was ready around 12:30 when we arrived which was a nice surprise. When booking we were given the option of an accessible room, which I specifically avoided booking as I’d rather leave them available for someone who needs them first and foremost, secondly they’re often laid out in a way which we don’t like. Example being the sink was just above knee height for me and being 6 feet tall, was not the most ergonomic of bathrooms for us. Anyway, we ended up with an accessible room, again we specifically requested otherwise. No matter. Room itself was ok. There seemed to dry tissue stuck to the ceiling in multiple places which isn’t exactly what you’d expect of a hotel claiming the rating it holds. The room was also relatively well worn and in reality, tatty in some places. The bar on the 12th floor was one of the worst experiences we’ve ever had in any hotel anywhere. It’s for some reason desperate to be a chic nightclub but instead of being a relaxing rooftop bar (the rooftop bit, i.e. outdoors, is a ~3m wide strip which runs the length of the bar and couldn’t accommodate many people at all), it’s laid out in an odd fashion, had ridiculously loud music playing and the staff seemed beyond disinterested in being there. The guy who took our order was by far the rudest person we’ve ever encountered in a customer facing role. I know it’d be easy to assume we were being awkward and this review is some attempt at getting back at them, but I assure you it isn’t. We’d literally just sat down and had a menu thrust into our hands and he asked what would we like, we both politely asked for a few minutes to have a look. Cue eye rolling. He then came back and asked “well then?”. We ordered drinks which came quickly and to be fair, were ok. When we’d half finished, he came back and asked if we’d like to order more. We told him not at the moment and he again, rolled his eyes and walked away, returning shortly with our bill. I paid and throughout this chap not once said please, thank you or interacted with us in any form for that matter. I could write more but can’t be bothered. In the end we left and went downstairs to Lyaness bar on the ground floor, which if it wasn’t for us visiting here and the staff in there (guy with long hair in a pony in particular who was excellent) we’d have given a much lower score. Checking out, I was asked if I’d like to pay a 12.5% service charge?????? I’ve never been asked this before and especially not in somewhere claiming to be five stars. Was the ~£600 for 2 nights I paid, plus the service charge on breakfast and every round of drinks we ordered not enough? I found this pretty cheap and tacky and at this point; decided we wouldn’t be returning anytime soon. All in all, if it wasn’t for the location, this would be 3 stars, absolutely max. The common areas were grubby, rooms tired and some of the staff beyond rude. As for the 12.5% on check out, that was the final nail in the coffin for me. Even Travel Lodge and the like don’t ask this.

Good and clean, helpful and friendly staff. Good location at walking distance from central london. Breakfast is good, also had diner in the restaurant, little bit high prices for food but for london normal we think.
