About the Hotel

A 19th-century beauty meets the London of today: that’s what you’ll find at Kimpton Fitzroy London Hotel. From the outside, the landmark building, which occupies a full block along the eastern side of Russell Square in Bloomsbury, looks every bit the part of grande dame. Inside, though, contemporary interiors beckon the discerning traveler to settle in and stay a while—Negroni (or two) in hand. Live like a Londoner on Russell Square. With one foot in the city’s past and another in its present, our Bloomsbury location combines British creative heritage with modern amenities.Presiding gracefully over Russell Square, with a stylish restaurant, Champagne and afternoon tea lounge, a cafe, destination cocktail bar and gym, our 334-room hotel turns every event into a memorable occasion. With a nod to 20s glamour and British irreverence, such as the Kit Miles cushions depicting our resident dragon, Lucky George, each luxuriously styled bedroom by Tara Bernerd & Partners beautifully reflects the rich history of our iconic hotel. Uniquely Kimpton in-room extras include a mug featuring George the dragon and yoga mat to help you feel at home.

Small rooms but a beautiful hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

Beautiful building- absolutely stunning! I don’t think the photo’s really do it justice. Fantastic location with good amenities near by. Staff were friendly and helpful. Couple of downsides to our stay. The first one was the size of the room. Our room was small. If staying longer than a couple of nights or staying with a large suitcase I’d definitely look at a larger room. The second is there is no real acknowledgment of being a platinum IHG member. No discussion of room upgrades like other IHG hotels. We opted for the drinks vouchers instead of points for our stay. The receptionist informed us he would leave them in the room when they took the bags up as we were heading out to a tour after checking in. No vouchers when returning to the room? Phoned reception to check and they informed us they’d look into it. Didn’t hear from them again. Disappointing! Good first visit to the hotel. Would consider staying here again when in London

Another excellent stay at the Kimpton Fitzroy London

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

The Kimpton Fitzroy is a wonderful hotel in a quieter part of London but with excellent transport links and great for exploring Bloomsbury. The building itself is a late Victorian masterpiece built by Charles ‘Fitzroy’ Doll. It used to be called the Hotel Russell but was extensively refurbished a few years ago and opened as the Kimpton Fitzroy London. What really sets the hotel apart, other than the amazing building and great location, is the wonderful staff that are so friendly and helpful - the vibe is very relaxed and there is no stuffiness that can be found in other 5 star London hotels. The team are on the younger side but are genuinely caring yet very professional too. The rooms are not large but are beautifully designed and very functional. Food is another highlight of the hotel with a terrific breakfast and lovely food and service on the Fitz Brasserie. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and I think it makes a great choice as opposed to some of its more famous rivals. If you book well in advance room rates are in my opinion very competitive for what’s on offer.

Quick stopover.

We arrive into London at 1830 after a 25 hour journey from Australia. Check in was easy, dropped bags in room and then down for a quick bite to eat at the bar before a well earned sleep. We had 1 full day in London and this hotel is perfectly located to get to all the major attractions. Following day we had another walk around the area after a good breakfast. We then jumped on the metro, which is at your doorstep, and head back to Heathrow for our next adventure.

We had an excellent stay and the hotel was in a great location and very clean. The staff was the highlight of our stay. They were professional and very friendly. I want to specifically mention Esther Tam who went out of her way to help me and my family get the best rooms closest together know the hotel was at capacity. Thank you Esther.
