My husband and I check-in to this hotel and were immediately met with a sinking feeling this was not going to be the holiday we imagined. Check-in was chaotic, not only for us, but dozens of guest who were waiting for hours for rooms to be ready. The front desk had a line of about 25-30 people and a single person to manage check-ins. I believe his name was Austin, and to his credit he kept his composure and remained professional. How he handled the stress of being left to manage a very difficult situation was rather impressive. Austin was the highlight of our interaction with staff. Another staff member was in the lobby and when asked about when we could get our room was very dismissive and seems to be more worried about leaving for a break. Leaving Austin to fin for himself. After the check in fiasco everything was fine until we went for breakfast. Turns out the check in process was not going to be the worst of our stay. Upon arriving at the hostess stand at the lobby restaurant we were met by someone who clearly did not want to be there. She was surly, rude, expressionless, made no eye contact and seemed to take a very long time to decide where to seat us in a dining room that was only a quarter full. She sat us at a table that was wedged against a pilar by the entry and my husband had to physically move the table so we could squeeze in. When asked for his drink order my husband asked for a cortado. She rudely exclaimed “I’m a barista and I’ve never heard of that!” An unusual statement since it’s a pretty common coffee drink. We ordered breakfast and it was delivered by someone else and the eggs were over cooked and cold, potatoes hard, I ordered bacon and got sausage and the toast was delivered 15 minutes after the food arrived ice cold. Still we said nothing. She never came to the table to check on us until we were ready for the check. She could see the food was un eaten and then she basically ignored us and after we waited 15-20 minutes I got up and said “I’m done” and headed to the front desk to speak on my experience. Suddenly she plopped the check down on the table. I’m a very tolerant and patient person but her hostility bordered on what I could only assume to be some sort of bias because she treated no one else like this. My husband and I frequent 4 & 5 star hotels, we spent our honeymoon at the Fairmont in Maui (amazing by the way) and there is a level of service that is expected that this hotel does not live up to. We believe this to be a combination of poor training and under staffing. Very disappointing!

Mario was the highlight of our trip! There for a girls weekend and we had him at both breakfast and at the lobby bar. Exceptional service, super personable and made us feel very welcome and appreciated. Austin at front desk was also amazing. So kind, patient and a great attitude of service. Thanks to both of you!

Went to go have some drinks and heard this place from a friend of mine they have good live jazz music… drinks were great but the best part about it was my bartender Eddie… best service I ever got at any bar hands down… he was very attentive and not only to me but to everyone else… definitely give it a 10/10

Stopped by the Fairmont Breakers in Long Beach for a spa day and capped it off at Alter Ego. Eddy behind the bar was exceptional—a true mixologist who clearly takes pride in his craft. Fantastic atmosphere, top-tier service, and brilliant drinks. Eddy made an already relaxing day completely unforgettable. Highly recommend stopping in if you're visiting the hotel!

We stop by at alter ego, and Eddie was an amazing bartender! He was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we sat down. He had a great attitude, made excellent drinks, and checked in on us throughout the night without being overbearing. His service truly made our experience even better. If you get the chance, ask for Eddie-you won't be disappointed!
