Sorry to give a poor review….wanted to love the Breakers

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

We went to the jazz bar to start the holidays and were very impressed by the atmosphere and the music. Howe ever, the food was inedible. We should have sent back the pizza and fries…pizza frozen from the grocery store is better. Also, hate to say this but service was poor. Very unfriendly and we had to ask for everything including water. I ama Long Beach resident and have loved everything about the Breakers. I want it to succeed but with poor food and lackluster service it will not. Both of these things are easily fixed!

Quality venue - finding its feet.

Catching up with reviews. We travelled here as a three night stop over on our return flights home to the UK. We originally booked the Breakers top floor suite but the hotel reached out stating this did not have a sofa bed for the kids. The hotel accommodated us instead in a one bed suite combined with a connecting standard double room. The hotel couldn’t offer an upgrade with our Accor status as nothing else would accommodate my family of six. First and foremost. The most warmest of welcomes was provided by the doorman - a genuine asset to the hotel. The property stands impressively and the rooms were immaculate. Now the slight niggles. We travelled as a family of six with two children. The pool area is small. The hotel sells (a limited quota) of day passes to outside guests. The guests who ‘buy in’ are clearly there for the day and get settled, this reduces the number of seats available to in house guests significantly. The small pool in my opinion doesn’t have the capacity for this. Again on our last night we went to the roof top bar for a drink before a meal in the hotel restaurant, only to be informed children weren’t permitted after 6pm. Yet again the bar was filled with outside guests. However I will say the meal in the restaurant thereafter was superb. I will also add without going into details the manager whom listened to our concerns as local Accor Diamond members dealt with our disappointment very professionally. So in conclusion. A very impressive property, warm welcomes all round but it needs to exercise some caution with chasing day guest dollars at the expense of in house guests as it finds its feet.

Beautiful hotel, best location in the city

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Excellent location, very friendly staff. Beautiful common areas. The guest rooms were smaller and more basic than other Fine Hotels we've stayed at. Nice shower amenities and toiletries provided. We dropped off our luggage at 7:30am and asked to be contacted if a room becomes available. But did not receive any call from the hotel even after 2:30 pm. By 3 pm only an ADA room was available, but the adjustments to the toilet and shower were not to our liking so we switched to another non ADA room. We were given a city view room on a lower floor with one side just showing the roof of another building and then a sliver of the buildings in the front. We stayed for one night and checked in by around 4pm. There were nice options at night for the Alter Ego jazz bar and dinner at the hotel but we only could find reservations for dinner later in the evening so we rescheduled our reservation for lunch the next day. The coffee shop bar was lovely and visited by many guests. The next day it was pouring rain the whole day so we couldn't use the open air pool and there wasn't much to do at the property when we were rained in. It would be nice if the hotel had some amenities available on days when rains are heavy in that area. The Sky Room that the hotel is famous for was closed during our stay. The restaurant was packed during breakfast time but the general manager there was so kind as to bring us some pastries and coffee as we waited. The portion sizes for the dishes on the limited breakfast menu were unusually small. Sadly the egg whites we ordered had a lot of liquid just floating in the plate. There wasn't much for vegetarians and the prices were so high that you couldn't order all that much to try other things. We went back there for lunch. The pasta dishes were pretty good, but again tiny portion sizes and very pricey. It's probably the least food we've ever had from a Fine Hotel and Resort property restaurant. They did bring out complimentary Tiramisu for a birthday we were celebrating and this dessert was heaven! One of the best I've ever had!

Fantastic Rooms But Pathetic Food Options

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

It’s quite a nice value because I booked through FHR. The front desk in general is very friendly and welcoming with just one or two people who have a dead face. The room is very clean, spacious and the chair is comfy for working. It had a nice pool, but it was too cold to be outside. It would have been a 5 star but the food options suck because there seems to be just one restaurant on the ground floor, Nettuno. It was a Monday and I was working, but trying to get just brunch around 10:30 AM, I had to wait for 45 mns, so I just put in the order for takeout and came down to pick later. The sky room seems to be nice for dates or fancy dinner, but I was sat down for at least 15 mns until someone came over with a glass of water. The food is expensive. In general, the room is fantastic in terms of cleanliness and view ( staying at least 6th floor or higher). However, the food options, they can do better. Maybe walk a few blocks and get way cheaper and better food options. It’s almost like a contrast between what’s offered by the hotel vs. the dining places. You will see what’s in my brunch box along with 3 sausages for 45$.

A NEW hotel in Long Beach

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

The Good: - The rooms are spacious enough. Although, you can tell they tried to jam in as much furniture as they can, it's a decent size. - The rooms were beautiful with all updated stuff. - The location of the hotel was a pleasant surprise. there was actually a lot to do in the Long Beach downtown area and the beach is right next door! The Bad: - The gym wasn't as spacious as I thought it should be. However, the hotel itself is near the beach and in an excellent location so going out for a run and workout was actually better. - For being a rather NEW hotel, I didn't feel that the rooms were THAT clean. The floors had marks on them and there seemed to be dust in certain areas. -The hallways had stains on the carpet and didn't look like they were attended to very well. The Ugly: - $50 a day for parking is a bit too steep! - There was LOUD guests that were signing and talking really loudly late into the night, that I wasn't very fond of. But, I called security and they responded to the noise right away. I also wonder if the noise was loud because the walls weren't very thick? The Excellent: - The decor in the main area is beautiful. The lobby when you walk in, is beautiful! - The different restaurant choices looked great. I didn't eat at any of the restaurants, but I did sit at the bar area across from the lobby and received excellent service. - The sauna/spa area is beautiful and the staff in the spa are so nice! the steam room was a plus and the staff kept the spa area really clean and neat.
