Sadly I had a really bad experience here due to the hotel management’s failure to maintain the rotting sargassum on their private beach. The sargassum releases hydrogen sulfide gas (smells like rotten eggs) into the air which can cause nausea, headaches, and eye/throat/respiratory irritation. The hydrogen sulfide gas was most likely greater than 40ppm because our carbon monoxide detector in the room started chirping at 2:30am. We left the hotel at 3am and had to drive to another hotel because of the issues the hydrogen sulfide gas was causing. We purchased a suite so I called the front desk to see if we could be issued a discount due to the fact that we left at 3am because of the carbon monoxide alarm going off and we were denied a discount. This is very unfortunate, we went here 3 years ago and had a great experience. We came back because we loved their private beach so much so we were very disappointed by this entire experience. We will never be returning again.

I had an excellent stay at Key Colony Beach Motel. The property is clean, peaceful, and perfectly located for enjoying the beauty of the Lower Keys. The room was simple but very well maintained, and everything felt fresh and comfortable. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help with anything we needed. The best part is the location—steps from the water, quiet surroundings, and easy access to restaurants, beaches, and everything in Marathon. It’s a great value for the area, especially considering how expensive the Keys can be. The atmosphere is relaxed, safe, and ideal for anyone looking to unwind. Overall, this motel exceeded my expectations. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Lower Keys. PS Motorcycle friendly.

Nice experience. Pool and beach were well maintained. Room was clean. Room 120 did have a “sewer” smell from time to time which we could not identify the source of. A/c was ice cold. Staff was kind and accommodating. Be warned that in the sun room, you can hear every peep made in the room directly above. We would stay here again!

My family and I visited Key colony beach motel, unfortunately our visit was short but that didn’t make it any less enjoyable. Very laid back atmosphere, very clean rooms and comfortable beds. Very good location! Beach and pool were nice as well. Was also pleased to find out there was a restaurant/bar next door. We can’t wait to return for an even longer visit! - The LaRues from Everglades City

Our first trip to the Keys, and we found our idea place to stay on the first try! The staff here is so friendly! The rooms are simple but spotless! The beds are comfortable! It has its own little beach which is uncrowded, and they even have a free breakfast! Definitely our go-to place next time we visit the Keys!
