About the Hotel

There’s no Hollywood history without the Hollywood Roosevelt. In its early years, the hotel played host to countless icons, such as: Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin, Clark Gable and Carole Lombard, among others. It has served as inspiration for filmmakers and creatives who have set their movies within this storybook backdrop. In 1988, famed British painter David Hockney completed a multi-million dollar mural on the bottom of the Tropicana Pool. Both the hotel and the pool have been designated Historic-Cultural Monuments by the City’s Cultural Heritage Commission.

THE HOLLYWOOD ROOSEVELT: A HOTEL FOR ANOTHER ERA

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

Dear Travellers and Hollywood Locals: This is an over-rated and not well-maintained hotel. True, back in the 1920s, 30s, or even 40s, it might have had its charms. And, of course, that was the the time of Hollywood's Golden Age. Now, it is just a pretentious "has-been." The management charges too much for rooms that have small beds, acoustic problems, and habitability issues such as mold. I suggest that any traveller experiencing mold (or, perhaps bugs) in their room(s), contact the LA Housing Authority or the city department that governs hotels and inns for code enforcement. I WOULD NEVER STAY HERE! To make matters worse, the staff acts like they can't be bothered by your presence in their hotel -- or your patronage. My suggestion would be to give this Hotel back to the Historical Society as a relic, since it has clearly outlived its charms. Just saying....

Above and beyond history tour

Cody was the best. Made me smile from ear to ear telling us all the Hollywood History. Such a fun surprise to our night! Ask to see the site of the 1st Academy awards, the Shirley Temple stairs, and Marilyn Monroe mirror!

Terrible Experience at the Roosevelt Hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We arrived Monday, Aug. 4th to a small room (510) in the older section of the hotel. The room was very small. The bathroom was even smaller. The toilet was so far wedged in the corner it was impossible for either of us to sit straight on it. We had to sit at an angle outwards to the left. That made it "fun" for, well you know. The shower door would not close all the way and remained open about an inch and a half inside the bathroom. The water pressure was weak. There was no chest of drawers or storage offered for T shirts, socks, underwear, etc. There was a lovely minibar however, with $40 wine splits and $12 bags of chocolate covered nuts. I am partially disabled and have a hard time walking. The lobby was closed for the day (Aug. 5th) because they were filming and guests were required to climb stairs up and down to bypass it. One hotel security officer saw me trying to return to my room using the stairs and offered to escort me thru the lobby (nice of him), but management refused to help saying only that they, "will talk to security about guests with mobility issues." Nothing was done and I had to climb stairs all day. I promise if I had fallen I would not be leaving this review as I would now be involved in a lawsuit with them. All in all, not at all worthy of a hotel which claims to be a 5 star destination on Hollywood Blvd. I would have been better off staying downtown or near Universal City for the same price if not less than the Roosevelt. May I recommend the Magic Castle Hotel to anyone looking to stay in the Hollywood area (if you can get a room there, they're always booked solid). Their level of customer service is amazing. If not, I would stay somewhere else, like Loews or the Hilton Garden Inn right above Franklin Ave. I used to feel special when staying at the Roosevelt. Sad to see the old lady in such condition and with such poor service and amenity.

Wonderful hotel with old Hollywood vibes

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Loved our stay here! The hotel has a very old Hollywood glam vibe that is such a nice respite from the chaos and touristy feeling of Hollywood Boulevard. It was our son's first time so we chose to stay in the area so he could have the whole Hollywood experience. Being able to come back to the hotel after being out all day was great. We had a 2 double bed room, which overlooked the side of the next building, so while the view was not great, it was incredibly quiet, which made up for no view. The room also had a sliding barn type door separating the entryway/bathroom/closet area from the main bedroom, which was great if you have different times you're getting up and don't want to disturb anyone else. Housekeeping was always around, making it easy to get extra towels or anything needed. The pool area is amazing, it's hard to believe you're right off a busy street. I wouldn't recommend their 25 Degrees restaurant. It didn't seem busy and service was still slow and not inexpensive. Thank you to whomever recommended skipping their $75 dollar day valet parking and parking in the garage directly across from the valet entrance. Just $30 dollars overnight and steps away. Attendants were there everytime we would drive out and the car was safe our entire trip. It overlooked Hollywood High's football field, which was fun to see! Also, there's an In N Out a 5 minute walk away for late night snacking!
