“We’ve tried to evoke the ambiance of a space remembered by a great writer, by a Marguerite Duras or a Noel Coward,” says Eric Verschelden, designer of Villa Maly. Indeed, these guestrooms are memorable: Parquet floors, tropical hardwood furniture and artful décor combine British and French colonial tastes, and the effect is timelessly elegant. Deluxe Rooms occupy the Plumeria villa, which once housed His Royal Highness Khamtan Ounkham, the grandson of a Lao king. It’s an authentic immersion in the history of Luang Prabang, hailed as the best-preserved city in Asia by UNESCO.

We spent three nights at Villa Maly with another couple as part of our travels in Laos. The hotel was a delightful refuge after long days of sightseeing in the heat and humidity. It’s perfectly situated on the edge of Luang Prabang’s shopping and dining areas, and we really appreciated all the amenities — especially the pool! — as well as the staff’s attention to details. We would cheerfully stay here again.

I can't say enough good things about Villa Maly and their staff. We originally booked 4 nights and ended up extending for an additional 2 nights, twice. We didn't want to leave! I communicated with them prior to booking and they were very helpful. They also arranged transportation from/to the train station at a reasonable price. Upon arrival we were greeted with a friendly and welcoming smile, and 5+ star service for the duration of our stay. I have never experienced such care, kindness, and wonderful hospitality. The hotel itself is charming, elegant, and beautiful. It has all of the amenities you'd want without trying to be something it isn't. Our room was well appointed, clean, and very comfortable. The pool area was beautiful and a very nice place to relax during the day. We enjoyed the daily buffet and á la carte breakfasts offered at the outdoor restaurant everyday of our stay. There were all types of food offered; both Lao and western. Everything was well prepared and tasted delicious. We did not eat at the main/indoor restaurant, although I wish we had. The main restaurant offered a very beautiful and romantic setting with a gourmet type of menu that looked delicious yet affordable. The staff is AMAZING! Everyone we interacted with was friendly, helpful, and caring. We did not have many needs but anything we asked for was met with a smile. The service was impeccable, and I was thoroughly impressed with how the hotel was run. The location is less than a 10-minute walk to the center of town (night market, morning market, temples, etc.). The hotel also offers a free daily shuttle to drop you off at the center which makes it a bit easier to explore further from there. There are many great restaurants in the area (our favorite was Jungala) and the area felt very safe and easy to navigate. We chose this hotel in spite of the higher price compared to many of the other hotels nearby, but the extra cost was well worth it. In my experience, you get what you pay for and that was especially true with Villa Maly. We enjoyed every minute of our time here and wouldn't hesitate to book again in the future. Thank you (kop jai der), Villa Maly! 🙏

This was everything we wanted from our stay in Luang Prabang - possibly my favourite stop off destination in our epic Indochina adventure! Small and unique and centrally located with a fabulous little pool, great cocktails and a great onsite restaurant too which we ate in quite a lot as it was so convenient. Loveky rooms and communal areas - a mix of retro and a colonial feel. Just lovely - would highly recommend.

lovely hotel about 10 minutes walk from the centre, far from the madding crowd unless you wanted it at the evening market or at morning monk time. staff were wonderful and honest - we left our safe open one day and they ran after us. the room was sprayed for mosquitos every evening and a mosquito net enclosed the bed. nothing was too much trouble so we were sad to leave after 3 nights. restaurant food was excellent too.
