About the Hotel

“We’ve tried to evoke the ambiance of a space remembered by a great writer, by a Marguerite Duras or a Noel Coward,” says Eric Verschelden, designer of Villa Maly. Indeed, these guestrooms are memorable: Parquet floors, tropical hardwood furniture and artful décor combine British and French colonial tastes, and the effect is timelessly elegant. Deluxe Rooms occupy the Plumeria villa, which once housed His Royal Highness Khamtan Ounkham, the grandson of a Lao king. It’s an authentic immersion in the history of Luang Prabang, hailed as the best-preserved city in Asia by UNESCO.

Reviews for Villa Maly

A home in Luang Prabang

We stayed for four nights and loved this hotel. Such leafy gardens, spacious rooms, amazing pool, lovely food, great drinks - but it was the staff that made our stay extra special. Every single staff member we met was friendly, helpful and welcoming. Highly recommend. Note, if you do struggle with steps, ask for a ground floor room.

Lovely place

From the moment we walked in, I was blown away by the beautiful decor and the warm atmosphere. The lobby felt like a cozy living room with its stunning wooden floor and accessories. During check in we were offered a shoulder massage. Unfortunately we did not have the time to have a massage during our stay, but I can really say that the therapist's touch was heavenly, and I would highly recommend it. Rooms are also lovely and the hotel is very quiet. Location is perfect, just a couple of minutes’ walk to the night market and center. During daytime we used the hotel bikes. It was a bit of a pity that the bikes weren't available for use in the evening. Breakfast is good with lots of options and fresh fruit juices. Staff is friendly and their English is perfect. All in all a great hotel.

Wonderful hotel in a great location

I stayed here with my family for three nights in the wonderful city of Luang Prabang. I am so glad to have picked Villa Maly for my stay. Everything was perfect from the initial greeting with local snacks, all the way through to the care and attention we received all through the time we were there. The hotel is an old colonial building with separate small smaller bedrooms spread around beautiful gardens and an extremely relaxing pool. Everything was tastefully decorated and we were all extremely comfortable. The location is really convenient for getting to the main sites of the town on foot and is also very peaceful. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff who are magnificent. Everyone was so kind to us and so helpful.. Breakfast is off a menu, but you can choose a variety of items and everything was just perfect . We also ate dinner in the restaurant which has a range of very high-quality local dishes. All in all five stars and just superb !

Excellent location , excellent care at all times

We really enjoyed our stay at this small French colonial style hotel on the edge of Luang Prabang centre. It offers a beautiful calm retreat after a day exploring the area . Our room (1) was very spacious and despite facing the road in front of the hotel was quiet and restful. The staff are amongst the friendliest and best we’ve experienced in any country . Calmly helpful, kind and friendly at all times. The free shuttle into town was very much appreciated on a daily basis . Good food and cocktails to be had too . Small but perfect pool ,never ever crowded or noisy during our 7 night stay . I highly recommend this hotel .
