Tucked into southern Switzerland near the Italian border, Lugano offers a soothing holiday ambience. It is both sophisticated and whimsical, and its elegant Golden Hill district provides a majestic setting for Principe Leopoldo. Discreetly dedicated to the well being of each guest, this elite member of Relais & Chateaux enhances its historic atmosphere with stylish contemporary touches. In addition to spacious guest rooms and suites, the former princely residence features superb dining experiences, including Limonaia winter garden and the tapestry-draped Principe Leopoldo Restaurant.

We just spent a week at Villa Principe Leopoldo and I could not be more thankful. If there were a sixth star available, I would give it. Start with the setting. The hotel sits above the city with a view of the lake and the mountains beyond it that we never got tired of, morning coffee or golden hour. Breakfast is a proper daily buffet, generous and beautifully done, and the pool was perfect for our daughter. The gym is genuinely well appointed, not the usual two treadmills and a stretch mat. The people are what made it, though. Sylvia and Stefano looked after us at breakfast and again at the fine dining restaurant, and they were exceptional both times. Sylvia’s coffee alone is worth the trip up the hill. Stefano remembered how we took everything by day two. Dining al fresco by the fountain while the sun went down was the highlight of our stay, and the fine dining room is a real special occasion restaurant, not a hotel afterthought. Special mention to Giacomo and Galin, who drive the shuttle down to Lugano. Always on time, always warm, always happy to help us wrangle a stroller and a small child. They made getting into town effortless. The bar deserves its own paragraph. Fully stocked, including Chartreuse, which meant a proper Last Word. That is rare even at good bars in the States, and finding it here felt like a gift. Add twice daily housekeeping (sometimes more if you need extra towels or water!) and laundry service, and a staff that made our daughter feel genuinely welcome everywhere she went, and you have a hotel that is five star in every way that actually matters.

It is quite a moment when you first arrive at the magestic and regal Villa Principe Leopoldo! Such a romantic and serene hotel! The views from the back patio/ bar area are magical. You have a ringside seat to the breathtaking views of the lake and Lugano. We had great food and drink and so enjoyed all our romantic evenings! The staff and service level here completes your perfect stay! So friendly and helpful! Special thanks to Giorgio, Mario, Galin, Nicola, Luca and Marianne! But everyone we encountered couldn’t have been more friendly. Concierge Giorgio arranged a very special boat tour and lunch for us! This is a beautiful historic hotel that whispers of its amazing past! Highly recommend

Absolutely amazing location on top of Lugano, great place of "historical and modern" symbiosis, flawless service and great staff. Big thanks to Massimo, Erik & Steffano and others, who made pur few days here unforgettable!

The only great thing about this hotel is the exterior and the stunning view of the lake from the back of the hotel. Go there for lunch or dinner or to take pretty photos. Do not stay overnight because you will not get a 5-star service. Hotel is in dare need for renovations. Rooms and hallways are ugly. And services are also more like of a 3-star hotel. There is no one outside to greet you and take your luggage, and front desk check-in experience is also not great.

Very nice place for a holiday. The view is incredible. The restaurant is over the top. Probably the best place in Lugano !
