Sofitel Lyon Bellecour

We stayed at the Sofitel Lyon for four nights and overall enjoyed our stay. The hotel has a fantastic location right next to the Rhône, and there are certainly some very positive aspects. However, for a five-star hotel, we felt that a number of things need attention, particularly the condition and maintenance of the property. Our room itself was quite good. The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was spacious, and the shower excellent. The room was clean and comfortable, although the furniture is clearly quite dated and would benefit from renovation. One issue we found particularly concerning was the separate toilet, which has no basin for washing hands. We did not find this very hygienic, especially for a five-star hotel. We were also surprised when we arrived to find a dog bed and dog bowls already placed in our room. We were subsequently told that the hotel welcomes guests travelling with dogs and that the same rooms can be used by guests both with and without pets. As my husband is allergic to animals, this was a concern for us. We would expect a five-star hotel that welcomes pets to have designated pet-friendly rooms, allowing other guests to avoid potential allergens. Breakfast, on the other hand, was a real highlight. It is served on the 8th floor with a fabulous view, and there was a plentiful selection. The breakfast staff were also very friendly, attentive and helpful. Unfortunately, our experience at the downstairs bar was rather inconsistent. Upon arrival, the bartender serving us seemed quite uninterested and we even had to ask for some nuts to accompany our drinks. However, the experience was completely different when Mr. Thomas was in charge. He was extremely friendly, attentive and professional, and his level of service made a remarkable difference. It really showed how much the guest experience depends on the person providing the service. The biggest issue for us is the overall condition of the hotel. The entrance looked rather dirty, and the downstairs bar and seating area felt very old-fashioned and in need of refurbishment. The dated furniture throughout the hotel also detracts from what should be a five-star experience. With its beautiful location and the potential it has, we believe the Sofitel could once again offer a true five-star experience — but in its current condition, we unfortunately did not feel that it fully meets the five-star standard.

The hotel is easy to find and around the hotel or in the own parking you will find enough spaces to park you car. Once entered in the lobby you will get warmly welcome by the Sofitel reception team! The check-in was professional and our room was directly accessible. We were lucky we got a corner room on the front side of the building with an amazing view on the city and the Rhône . The room was very clean and luxurious ! In the morning you can enjoy your breakfast on the top floor of the hotel with another great view on Lyon. The buffet is well dressed with a huge choice of food and drinks. The service team was outstanding, very friendly, professional and helpful, they helped us to have a great start in the day. This hotel can only be recommended, not the cheapest one in Lyon, but may be the best one one Lyon!

Brilliant location by the Rhone. Staff are very attentive and the breakfast was great. The rooms, however, are very outdated and tired (but very clean), the one we stayed in was definitely not 5 star standard

The public areas of the hotel are good and the view from the bar is superb. Staff were helpful and the location is great. Worth taking the breakfast as excellent. The rooms are a bit tired and need decorating at the very least. Our bed was very good but too bit for the room as you couldn't open the wardrobe door properly!

What an absolute disgrace! Carpets so old, bad smelling, paint falling off walls, bed torn to pieces - ruin your day by sleeping in a bed on that hotel, that is if you get some sleep - the most non isolated hotel i’ve ever Been. You Can hear Everything. I regret that I didnt document how bad this hotel is - took only two pictures which you can see below. Food is so bad too. This is not even near a 5 star experience - before going there please read reviews, dont waste your money here. Front deal “manager” is an absolute joke too, arrogant and Think hes the center of the Universe.
