Savoy Saccharum Resort & Spa is a beautiful property located in Calheta overlooking the sea and near the Marina da Calheta. The hotel is located just 20 minutes from Funchal, the Island city capital, and 45 minutes from the International airport. The Savoy Saccharum is designed with natural landscaping that offers a symbiosis between the ocean and the mountain. Proudly a design resort, the Savoy Saccharum had the signatures of modern and innovative HR architecture studio and recognized and awarded Madeiran interior designer Nini Andrade Silva, who opted for a contemporary décor, using the sugar cane (saccharum) as the conceptual element.

If you love the idea of staying somewhere tucked between a rainforest and a plantation, the Saccharum is a dream. The location in Calheta is simply stunning—you get those incredible altitude differences and the wildness of the Atlantic right on your doorstep. The hotel itself is an architectural wonder and beautifully kept. It has a wonderful, calm energy that makes it easy to switch off. We opted for the SPE (Savoy Premium Experience) package, and it was worth every penny! It made the stay feel truly seamless. The wellness lessons included were a highlight for us—both the Tai Chi and the Garden Workshop were such enjoyable, grounding experiences. Our room was brilliantly spacious, with more than enough furniture to actually tuck our belongings away and properly relax. As for the room service, it was exactly what you’d expect from a 5* spot—prompt and spot on. One minute you’re soaking up the sun, the next you’re watching the clouds dance over the peaks; it’s a proper sensory experience. We even managed to spot dolphins, which was absolute magic! From the dramatic roads and tunnels leading you to the resort to the genuine warmth of the staff, everything was top-tier. A total gem of a find.

I stayed at Saccharum on a business retreat in April 2026 and came away really impressed. The hotel is modern, clean and very well maintained throughout. Everything felt fresh and thoughtfully designed, from the rooms to the shared spaces. What stood out most for me was how easy and relaxing the whole experience was – nothing felt stressful or overly complicated. The atmosphere is calm and laid-back, with beautiful views over the ocean. It’s the kind of place where you can genuinely switch off, whether you’re by the pool, walking around the property or just sitting and enjoying the scenery. The rooms were comfortable and well kept, and the overall cleanliness was excellent, which made a big difference. Service was consistently good – friendly, professional and not intrusive. While I was there for business, it struck me as an ideal hotel for a relaxing break as well. It has a nice balance of quality and comfort without feeling overly formal. I enjoyed the stay enough that I’m now planning to return in the summer with my family, which probably says everything.

Set against Madeira’s dramatic coastline, Saccharum is one of those places that instantly shifts your pace 🌊✨ From the moment you arrive, everything feels a little calmer, more intentional. The design is refined and rooted in the island’s heritage, yet warm and inviting at the same time – a place where you don’t just stay, but truly settle in and feel at ease. The rooms reflect exactly that: clean, elegant, filled with natural light and always connected to the ocean. Waking up here, with the Atlantic right in front of you and the sound of the waves in the background, is something truly special – a quiet luxury that defines the entire experience. What I loved most is how effortlessly everything comes together: ☀️ infinity pools overlooking the sea, perfect for long, unhurried afternoons 🍽️ a diverse culinary experience across several restaurants, from relaxed lunches to refined dinners with a view 💆♂️ a spa designed to fully disconnect, recharge and create space to simply let go And then there’s the service – attentive, genuine, and incredibly warm. Not over the top, but exactly what you hope for in a place like this. It’s the kind of hospitality that feels natural, intuitive and stays with you long after you’ve left. A detail that adds real depth to the experience is the strong focus on sustainability 🌱 From growing their own herbs and produce to creating a more conscious, locally connected approach – it’s thoughtfully integrated and enhances the authenticity of the entire stay. There’s a certain ease to Saccharum. Nothing feels forced, everything flows effortlessly. For me, it’s more than a hotel. It’s a place to arrive, slow down… and truly switch off. And honestly… one of those rare places you quietly start planning to return to before you’ve even left.
