Set in the heart of Monnageri, Taj Madikeri Resort & Spa, Coorg is an idyllic luxury hotel. With breathtaking sights of the rainforest and an untamed natural environment, guests can experience nature at its best. The design of the hotel is meant to blend into this magnificent environment by using light colors, dark wood tones, sloping roofs, pillars, and open-to-sky entrances. The central courtyard is surrounded by rooms that open into it, and they are built in a traditional architectural style. The facilities have been meticulously designed to ensure luxurious comfort. We had a lovely stay at Taj Madikeri Resort & Spa. The welcome was warm, and both check-in and check-out were quick and seamless. This was our pet’s first visit, and we truly appreciate how comfortable the staff made her feel. A special thanks to Punit, Sadiya, Suman, staff who welcomed us (i forgot her name) and the team for their courteous and attentive service. While pets are not allowed in the restaurants, which limited our dining experience to in-room meals, we’re grateful to the breakfast buffet manager and servers for arranging a separate seating area so we could still enjoy the buffet. As a suggestion, having a designated pet-friendly dining area would greatly enhance the experience for guests traveling with pets. Overall, a very pleasant and memorable stay.

Positive Aspects: Scenic Beauty & Property: Taj Medikeri offers breathtaking views and a well-maintained property that truly showcases the natural beauty of Coorg. The overall ambiance and setting made for a memorable stay. Excellent Breakfast Experience: The complimentary breakfast spread was impressive with a good variety of vegetarian options. The food quality was tasty, and the staff was accommodating when we requested spicier preparations to suit our preferences. Convenient Buggy Service: The buggy service for navigating the expansive property was a thoughtful amenity that made getting around comfortable and convenient, especially given the hilly terrain. Flexible Check-out: We appreciated that the hotel accommodated our request for a late check-out, which was helpful for our travel plans. Serene Environment: Despite the service issues, the property's peaceful setting and natural surroundings did provide moments of relaxation. Areas for Improvement: Birthday Celebration Delay: We visited to celebrate a birthday and had pre-ordered a cake in advance. Unfortunately, the cake was delivered very late at 10:30 PM, which significantly impacted our celebration plans. Better coordination for special occasions would enhance the guest experience. Accessibility Concerns: The property could be more accessible for young children (under 4 years) and elderly guests. Rooms have steps without handrails, which could pose safety concerns. Room Allocation & Billing Issue: We booked Deluxe rooms 2 weeks in advance but were given Superior rooms at check-in due to full occupancy. While we understood the situation and found the rooms acceptable, we were still charged the Deluxe rate. Despite raising this during check-in with assurance it would be corrected, the issue remained unresolved until checkout, requiring 45 minutes to rectify and nearly causing us to miss our flight. This level of follow-through needs improvement. There were occasional power cuts. Recommendation: While the property's natural beauty is undeniable, the multiple service failures significantly detracted from our experience. Improvements in service delivery, billing accuracy, follow-through on commitments, and coordination for special occasions are needed to meet Taj's brand standards.

Our recent 5-night stay at Taj Madikeri was deeply underwhelming and fell significantly short of the standards expected from a Taj property. From the moment we arrived, the experience lacked warmth and professionalism. There was no proper welcome, and the staff consistently showed a lack of attentiveness. Interactions often felt dismissive rather than hospitable. The new manager was frequently occupied with calls and recordings instead of engaging with guests. When we raised concerns, his response that he had “just joined” reflected a concerning lack of ownership and accountability. Service issues persisted throughout our stay. Despite repeatedly reporting a leakage in the washroom to both housekeeping and reception, the issue remained unresolved for all five days. Basic upkeep was clearly neglected. Additionally, the upkeep of areas outside the cottages was inconsistent and required improvement—used cutlery left outside our room from previous guests was only cleared after we brought it to attention, something that should never require guest intervention. Billing inaccuracies further added to the frustration. Minibar items were incorrectly charged during checkout, even though housekeeping was aware they had been consumed by prior occupants. This points to a lack of internal coordination and verification processes. Staff attitude across the resort was consistently disappointing. Many team members appeared disengaged, unresponsive to greetings, and unwilling to assist. The buggy drivers, in particular, seemed unhappy and drove rashly on steep paths, making travel within the property uncomfortable and, at times, unsafe. The resort also failed to deliver on experiences. Cultural activities were limited to once a week, and during our stay, none were available. For a destination like Coorg, the absence of meaningful Kodava cultural experiences or coffee/tea engagements is a significant miss. Complimentary activities were minimal—restricted to yoga and fish feeding—and even these were poorly managed. Fish feeding was often unavailable or required repeated follow-ups. When finally arranged, we were given a chocolate croissant to feed the fish, along with the explanation that leftover buffet food is used—this was both surprising and unacceptable. At the grill restaurant, a particularly concerning practice involved lighting cloth soaked in diesel for visual effect. The fumes were overpowering and made us feel nauseous. Given the forest setting of the property, this approach felt irresponsible and environmentally unsound. Even the departure experience reflected poor standards. The cab arranged by the hotel for Bangalore was unclean, had used water bottles lying inside, and no fresh water was provided—basic hygiene and guest care were overlooked. That said, the property’s natural beauty is truly exceptional, and the food at The Fern Tree Restaurant was outstanding. The culinary team deserves appreciation for delivering a consistently enjoyable dining experience. Overall, this stay lacked the professionalism, attention to detail, and refined hospitality synonymous with the Taj brand. While the location has immense potential, significant improvements are needed in service culture, staff training, maintenance, and overall guest experience to justify its positioning as a luxury resort.
