I tried to go for breakfast on Sunday but they told me they were full as they had brunch. Went back on Monday for lunch in the lobby, a lady with a ponytail asked my room number but when I told her I wasn’t staying at the hotel she told me no tables were available even though the lobby was half empty. I was staying at a friend’s and eating at various high end hotels to decide where to stay when I am back for Christmas. The Mandarin Oriental Ritz won’t be my choice, you do not want me there? Fine, I’ll go to the Four Seasons where I received a royal treatement, you select your guest, I won’t select you. Your loss, not a smart way to do business. Never again Mandarin Oriental! Stay clear!

This is my 2nd visit in Madrid. I love this city, it’s elegance and grand architecture. I especially love my stay at Mandarin Oriental, first class and very luxurious!

During my stay, a staff member entered my room without knocking while I was getting changed. He did not leave right away and gave excuses instead of apologizing. Management also failed to handle the situation properly and tried to defend him. This left me feeling unsafe and disrespected. For a hotel that positions itself as luxury, such behavior is shocking and absolutely unprofessional.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid. From the location, to the staff, to the hotel’s architecture and decor, to the restaurants and beverage and food options, to the facilities (nice gym, albeit a bit warm), to the service, and the offerings, the hotel was exceptional. We are very appreciative of the room upgrade that the hotel gave us. It was a very pleasant surprise. The room was a top floor suite with a living room that is separate from the bedroom. The view of the room faced Plaza de la Lealtad. I would love to give a special commendation to Ricardo and Aledt (not sure if I spelled her name correctly; Ricardo said her name is French) of the Palm Court restaurant. They were both excellent in making us feel at home and helping us with our reservations at the Palm Court. Knowing that we enjoyed architecture, Ricardo went above and beyond to show us the Royal Ballroom also. As we spoke with him about the hotel, we can see the immense pride and love that he has for the hotel and his career there. Most importantly, we can feel the care and love he has for the guests. Aside from Ricardo and Aledt, Vicente was also very warm and engaging with us, as were many of the staff members of The Pam Court whose names I do not know. Vicente took good care of us when we had our first dinner at the general area of The Palm Court. He was very patient with us as we tried to navigate and decide on the menu selections. It will be extremely difficult for us to stay at another hotel after experiencing a hotel of this caliber of quality and service. As a side note, there was one staff member at The Palm Court (Victor) who appeared a bit “cold” and not engaging from the start of our second dinner there. He seemed bothered and had a bit of a scowl on his face. We couldn’t tell if we did something wrong. It was not until towards the end of our meal that he appeared to force a smile. He may have overheard us talking among ourselves that we were baffled by his behavior. He probably had a bad day. I would not fault him for that.
