Located in the privileged Habsburg district next to The Royal Palace, The Opera House and The Cathedral, Gran Melia Palacio de los Duques is a luxury urban resort offering 160 spacious rooms and 20 luxurious suites behind a magnificent Elizabethan façade. This beautiful hotel, completely inspired on Velazquez’s master pieces is the former Palace of the Dukes of Ega and Villahermosa. In the artistic and cultural heart of Madrid, a short walk from some of the most important monuments in the city, such as the Royal Palace, the Teatro Real and the Almudena Cathedral, behind its magnificent façade the Palacio de los Duques Gran Meliá combines vintage splendour with a delicate contemporary sensibility. More than just a luxury hotel, the Palacio de los Duques Gran Meliá is a canvas that inspired a most extraordinary way of life.

A lovely experience staying at the Palacio de los Duques. Beautiful surroundings and the staff are great. Johnatan was very pleasant and helpful at breakfast. A great asset to the hotel :)

The hotel is one of the most beautiful hotels we've stayed at. The staff was amazing - everyone was so helpful. We can't say enough good things about the hotel staff. We loved the location of the hotel - it is so central to many wonderful neighborhoods. We thought the room was so unique (as was most of the hotel) and the bed was so comfortable. We did have a few complaints. As other reviewers have stated - we found the shower design to be absurd. The way it was set up with the tub - you had absolutely no room to stand and be directly under the shower head. I appreciate that with the old hotel structure they were probably limited with the size - but it was a laughable design. We found using the shower to be a ridiculous exercise. We found the gym to be one of the worst we've seen at a hotel - it was so cramped and small that if there were more than 2 people you almost had no room to workout. There must be bigger rooms in the hotel that could be implemented for the gym - why they don't do this is a mystery. Finally, the pool was surrounding chairs were much too limited for a large hotel. We tried several times to enjoy the pool during our 3 day stay, and not once were we able to get chairs.

This was the nicest hotel I have ever stayed at and I can’t wait to return! The hotel room and bathroom were very nice and extremely clean. The complimentary breakfast buffet was literally the best breakfast I have ever eaten. Fancy meats and cheeses, exotic fruits, interesting juice blends and other beverages, an entire pastry buffet, fancy bread, high quality Spanish breakfast egg and potato dishes. I will definitely come back if I get the chance.

Highly recommend this hotel. It’s a modern hotel within a former palace. Very upscale and tastefully decorated rooms, lobby and restaurant areas. Rooftop pool is small but chilled waters were bonus after hot day of site seeing. The staff was very kind and helpful. The perfect location within short walking distances of sites like the palace and cathedral was big benefit and also close to a metro stop to get to the museums. We could walk to a couple great neighborhoods to find dining/tapas. Also loved the bar for afternoon or night time cocktail and snacks. Wine was reasonably priced and compared to other hotels food came it’s were reasonable. Only meh parts very small gym and the unusually strong fragrance used in the hotel floor hallways. Nothing too bad just noticeable. Overall A+

The hotel was perfect in every way, especially the accomodations. I would recommend though the Palace Wing, rather than the Convent side as the rooms are newer and larger. The garden are gorgeous, especially for an aperitivo pre-dinner. The location is superb.
