Great location and very friendly staff!

Amazing location and very friendly staff, especially Rafael who did his best to ensure each day started off on the best foot forward at breakfast for a fun day in Madrid! Our room was tiny, however, but incredible location.

Beautiful, central hotel but be careful which room you book

We booked a 4-night stay in the hotel in a superior room (with potential for an upgrade depending on availability). Our check in was smooth and efficient but no room upgrade was mentioned - perhaps I needed to ask. We were welcomed with a lovely glass of cava and a local beer which was a lovely gesture. Our room was well equipped, if a little dark inside and overlooked a side street which was disappointing but we figured it was no big deal as we would be out most of the day anyway. We found the breakfast to be excellent with plenty of choice and staff working very hard to serve everyone promptly despite a few busy mornings. We ate several times on the terrace and the main restaurant which is something we don't normally do, preferring to explore restaurants in the city, but the menu and the food was very good so we were happy to stay with the hotel for dining. Again, the bar staff were very friendly and service was good. The disappointment with the hotel was the fact that we did not sleep out for 2 nights out of the 4 we had booked due to the noise level coming from the side street out room overlooked. There seemed to be a night-club or bar there with the music and crowds gathering outside until 6 am with the noise level being unbearable at times. We did mention this the Rafael once and he said that we should have rang reception but other than moving us to another room, I don't really know what he could have done about it. Perhaps is we had been upgraded on day 1 we would not have had this issue. The other issue I had was that on the day we were leaving, I requested an airport taxi in the afternoon which the reception staff said they would organise. Turns out that most of the city was closed to traffic that afternoon and there was difficulty with the taxi getting through which caused a little anxiety as the roads were not opening again until later that evening. I'm really not sure why this was not mentioned to us as we could have booked an earlier taxi to avoid the stress of thinking we were not going to get to the airport. We then had to request another taxi when the booked taxi did not arrive leading to us being late for the airport. Just a few minor issues that I wanted to point out, particularly with the room and the noise - select your room carefully if you want to get a good nights sleep!
