Reviews for Thompson Madrid

Good but not great

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Stayed over a week in corner terrace room suite with views towards Puerta del Sol and calle de la Montera, the sunset views were spectacular. You are on highest floor with rooms. The terrace is massive and in afternoon and evening great place to sit if weather is nice. Room was big but more closet space is needed. Went up to restaurant at top floor for breakfast once, service was extremely poor. Had to wait 10 mins after seated for glass of water and order to be taken, do not waste your time or money in food at the hotel, its not good. Another morning decided to get breakfast in room and ordered their churros con chocolate. They were absolutely inedible, cold, hard, gummy. And the chocolate was more like melted ice cream, cold. It was so unappealing that my husband was completely put off and created an aversion to all churros. Also had to request multiple days to have coffee pods in room refilled. The weather in Madrid that week was cold a few days but warmer on others, but fortunately air conditioning and heat worked very well. Bed was very firm, too firm for our taste. Bathroom was huge and has a Japanese style toilet, which you don't see much in Europe. Shower also very good with good water pressure. Another quirk is that the room had blackout automatic shades, they were great, but the bathroom only has a thin white curtain so if you plan to shower or anything else in bathroom when its dark outside you are giving Madrid, or whomever is on the terrace, a show. We rented a car to go out of Madrid, there is a new underground public parking right in front of hotel with entrance literally steps in front, it was never full during our stay. I usually stay at Palacio de los Duques. A much better hotel in my opinion, but husband preferred the more modern look of the Thompson. Location is very good, metro stations close by and many restaurants (including a Dunkin' Donuts and McDonalds) steps away, also gourmet grocery at el Corte Ingles a block away. As a welcome gift got a bottle of olive oil in room, and although appreciated, was not planning on frying my own Spanish omelette in the room, so had to leave it, 500mL of oil is heavy. Husband says he would stay here again, I still prefer Palacio de los Duques more.

Exceeded expectations

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

From our arrival, this hotel and staff exceeded expectations. As we had booked through American Express Fine Hotels, we received an upgrade into a twin bedded suite which was amazing. Great shower, two sinks, bath, and a lovely terrace to enjoy. Emilie was lovely at reception. Made us feel really special. We also decided on a visit to Las Rozas Outlet, which is the same company as Bicester. Think this was a special privilege. Very pleasant and picked up a bargain dress! Concierge staff were amazing - they organised the Las Rozas visit (private Mercedes transfers, VIP shopping with a personal shopper called Teddy who was helpful without being intimidating), and they gave us some excellent restaurant recommendations - one for paella which they booked for us, and one for tapas which was so good I’m looking forward to my next visit in September. Your lovely staff are an asset to the hotel. Breakfast was limited in buffet offerings but menu was comprehensive and service including from Ima was very efficient. Lobby area was good for drinks and small snacks. Location of the hotel was perfect though central city location means lots of noise from late night revellers but they were having a good time! I am staying in Thompson Hyatt in September when I return for the F1 race, and now I can’t wait to return!

March in Madrid

I would highly recommend the Thompson Madrid for those looking to take a city break in Madrid. The hotel itself is very well located, so that it is a great base of operations to explore the city. It's quite walkable to the Palace, Mercado de San Miguel (a must visit!), shopping and flamenco/dining/bar areas. It's also not too far to walk to Retiro Park and Prado museum (about 25 mins) but it's easy enough to get a taxi. The hotel itself has chic decor, the rooms were immaculate and beautifully presented and the bed was very comfy. Although the hotel is close to a busy area, we did not notice much noise. We did not use the restaurant or rooftop bar, but we did visit Jack's Club which is the speakeasy cocktail bar attached to the hotel. I would definitely recommend dropping in for a cocktail if you are staying at the hotel. I want to give a special shoutout to the staff who were all amazing. At arrival, the receptionist and concierge were very welcoming (I wish I remembered their names so I could acknowledge them here), and the whole team was friendly and helpful throughout our stay. It certainly contributed to a lovely experience in Madrid. We will definitely stay here again the next time we visit Madrid.
