About the Hotel

Amanjiwo, enveloped by the rainforest of central Java, is set within a natural amphitheater – where the Menoreh Hills rise up nearby and the farmlands of the Kedu Plain spread below steep volcanoes on the horizon. Overlooking the world's largest Buddhist monument, Borobudur, this majestic 9th century UNESCO World Heritage site is perfect for personal reflection. Set in two graceful crescents, the 36 Suites feature sunken bathtubs and thatched-roof bale pavilions, and open onto private gardens. The Spa, with its outdoor relaxation bale, is home to treatments informed by Javanese healing and beauty rituals handed down through generations. Tennis courts overlook the Menoreh Hills, and yoga is practised both at the gym and outdoors. The 40-metre swimming pool, surrounded by loungers and parasols, offers respite amid rice paddies and banyan trees.

Fantastic stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

Great service, accommodation, tours and food. We booked a garden pool suite and were surprised when our room had a distant view of Borobudur Temple. The concierge also arranged a fantastic bike tour through rice paddies and villages as well. Many thanks to the management and staff for a fantastic stay. One suggestion for improvement is to continue to train some your restaurant staff. Some areas for improvement there in terms of accuracy of orders and table set up

Room not ready

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

A hotel with a great atmosphere, overall meeting Aman standards. I really wanted to give it five stars because it exceeded my expectations in many ways. However, at the standard check-in time of 2 p.m., the room was still not ready — something I did not expect to happen at an Aman hotel, which was disappointing, especially since we arrived before 10 a.m. and had already informed the hotel of our flight details. Moreover, we saw many guests who arrived much later than us gradually being checked into their rooms, which made us very uncomfortable. (Yes I know there are different room types, and I trust that the hotel did not do this on purpose, but it was still hard not to feel that we were being treated differently.) Also here every staff member is trained to remember our itinerary. This is very nice, but they seemed to lack internal communication. We received reminders from four different staff members giving us a different departure times for an activity, which left us very confused.

THE best place to stay to visit Borobudur.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 8 months ago

My partner has never been to an Aman and wanted to experience it. So we chose Amanjiwo as it's close to where we live (Singapore). Getting there was a breeze as there's a direct flight, and the Yogyakarta airport on arrival was virtually empty and we were out and met the Aman resort car in minutes. The drive - the resort is about 1.5 hours drive away, passing by some beautiful country side. I noticed the drive is much more beautiful than a similar drive in Bali, where it's usually lined with dingy and dirty shops and buildings, not to mention the horrible traffic. The resort - the building and architecture is iconic and amazing, somewhat a blend of temple and palace. I have been to a few Amans but feel the older generation is more to my liking than the new batch of Amans (New York, Tokyo, etc.). The older ones like Amanjiwo are much more unique, blending local architure with Aman's signature minimalism. We got a pool suite - the pool is actually quite large, overlooking trees and rice paddy. What I love the Aman the most is the peace and tranquility it installs in you. I honestly don't know why other $1000+ resorts can't replicate this, but it's this profound peace that makes me loving almost all the Aman properties I have visited. Service - impeccable of course, the staff manages to be both attentive and "invisible" at same time. Food - not bad but I wouldn't say it's the best I have ever had at a resort, wish there are more non-local varieties. Borobudur - Amanjiwo arranged a VIP tour, the guide took us way up to the top and work our way level by level down, instead of upwards. SO we avoided the group tours, that was brilliant. All in all, my partner was so impressed that he was checking which Aman he wants to visit next on day 2 of the stay at Amanjiwo.

WHO KNEW -They would just decide to shutdown after we made reservations 6 months ago

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 9 months ago

Wow we are in the final stages of getting ready to head to Asia and Amanjiwo Hotel in Borobudur decided they are going to shutdown for the month we are in Asia. Reservation made 6 months ago. We have tours, airplane tickets, etc. . They suggested we could either change our dates or just go to their other hotels in another city on the same dates. That is so thoughtful of them, they will really let us come to another property in another city. . Inconsiderate ! Also they never responded on my emails of a couple months ago about tours and airport logistics. So far ZERO STARS thanks for the last minute cancel Never staying at Aman Hotels again
