Reviews for Anantara Veli Maldives Resort

Wow, stunning adults only resort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 9 hours ago

Wow what can we say, Anantara Veli is beautiful. Stunning Island, and wonderful to have two other islands to visit during our stay. We stayed in an overwater villa and our lovely butler Phyu really enhanced our stay with her friendly and helpful personality, so happy and always efficient sending us wellness activities And booking restaurants and lots of helpful Advice. Villas are beautiful and has all modern amenities, enjoying sunset in the deck was ahighlights. Also waking to find the local Sealife, swimming around the villa was another highlight as was seeing the dolphins on our speedboat transfer. All of the restaurants are amazing. The menus varied and everything delicious. Cumin, selection of Maldivian, international and Indian dishes, can recommend the marinated Lamb chops, we visited twice and would like to thank Ibrahim for his knowledge of the dishes and guidance on choices all delivered with a big smile and smooth efficiency. We also ate at Dhoni Bar, small Plates of great food, particularly the lobster dishes. Finally we ate at Origami, exceptional Asian cuisine with a wonderful ambience. This stunning resort delivers in all areas, our first visit to the Maldives and definitely won’t be our last. Thank you Phyu for helping us make some wonderful memories.

Massimo’s Family

Anantara Veli is a very well organized resort, high quality of food, skilled personnel and a fantastic location. During our stay we had been assisted by a very nice Villa Host, Phyu. She did a very good job organizing activities, dinners and assisting us with the logistic troubles created by the Gulf War. We wish to thank Phyu and all the resort employees.

Excellent honeymoon experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

Me and my wife spent our honeymoon there, and it was a really beautiful experience. Phyu was our villa host, and she was so amazing that we want her to be our host every single time we go there. She took care of arranging every single thing within seconds to minutes with just a single text, made life extremely comfortable for us! All the activities available there, like the water sports, spa, etc were done very professionally and top notch. The view from the room in our overwater villa was a sight to behold. We are vegetarians and absolutely enjoyed food at all the restaurants. Overall, I'd say this is the best vacation we have ever had.

Disappointed. Big difference between reality vs expectations

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

This was my 18th trip to the Maldives since 2022, a destination I return to for its beauty, hospitality and unforgettable resort experiences. We chose Anantara Veli to celebrate 50 years of friendship, a very meaningful milestone. But the stay did not reflect the Maldivian standard we’ve come to cherish. What We Appreciated • Excellent food across both Veli and Dhigu, with great variety and dedicated staff • Outstanding spa treatments and highly skilled therapists Where the Experience Fell Short • Location and lagoon: The resort’s setting does not offer the typical Maldivian views or easy access to the ocean. The lagoon around the Ocean Pool Villas is rocky, with limited marine life and no convenient way to enter the water. Something we truly value in the Maldives. • Villa layout: Our Ocean Pool Villa felt much smaller than the size mentioned in the website and the interiors appeared outdated. The pool was also much smaller than expected. • Butler Service: Information about activities, spa options and water sports was not proactively shared and required repeated follow‑ups. • All‑Inclusive clarity: The inclusions were not clearly explained, and several food and beverage items had limitations or exclusions, which created confusion during our stay. Overall Impression While we truly enjoyed the food and spa, the resort’s location, room layout and limited lagoon access did not offer the Maldivian experience that means so much to us. We treasure the Maldives for its open‑water beauty and vibrant marine environment, and this property didn’t align with those expectations. With clearer communication and more transparent offerings, the experience could be more fulfilling

Disappointing Experience at Anantara Veli Maldives — Expectations vs Reality

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

I just returned from my 18th holiday trip to the Maldives since 2022, a destination that I truly admire for its unmatched beauty, hospitality and luxury experiences. Over the years I have stayed in several 5 star and better resorts across the Maldives and almost all of them have created wonderful memories that we continue to cherish. That is precisely why we keep returning to the Maldives again and again. This time, influenced by many positive reviews and video testimonials, I chose Anantara Veli Maldives Resort. I travelled with my wife and the family of a childhood friend to celebrate 50 years of friendship, a very special milestone for us. Unfortunately, our overall experience during our five-night stay was disappointing in several important areas. I am sharing my experience in detail so that future travellers can make informed decisions. What We Liked: Restaurants and Food One of the strongest aspects of the resort is the variety and quality of restaurants. Anantara Veli and Anantara Dhigu are two neighbouring islands. Dhigu is more suited for families with children, while Veli is an adults-only resort. Guests from Anantara Veli are allowed to dine at restaurants on both islands. The resort offers a wide selection of cuisines including Asian, Japanese, Thai, Italian and seafood, along with sunset bars serving excellent cocktails. Food quality was consistently good and the chefs deserve special appreciation. The restaurant staff were generally professional and hardworking. Spa" The spa treatments were excellent. We used the spa services multiple times and found the therapists highly skilled. The resort offers a wide variety of treatments including: Anantara signature massages Ayurvedic therapies Balinese massage Turkish Hammam Other wellness treatments Above are the only best aspects of our stay. Areas That Were Disappointing Location and Marine Environment: One important aspect of a Maldivian resort is the marine environment around the villas. In our experience, the lagoon area around Anantara Veli is largely rocky with limited coral life. We stayed in an Ocean Pool Villa, but there was no convenient way to step directly into the water from the villa because of rocks below. Snorkelling opportunities were limited and marine life around the villas is minimal compared with many other Maldivian resorts. Travellers who are particularly interested in snorkelling or coral reefs may want to research this aspect carefully before booking. Butler Service: Each villa is assigned a butler service, which is intended to help us with information and reservations. In our case, the service was unfortunately not very helpful. During our first meeting we requested information about: Spa services Water sports Activity brochures Our butler said a WhatsApp group would be created to share all relevant information and to help us make reservations. However, we did not receive the information until we followed up several times. Eventually we had to request and collect most of the information ourselves. Full Board / All Inclusive Package: One of the most confusing aspects of our stay was the Full Board and All Inclusive package structure. We booked an All Inclusive package, expecting meals and beverages to be straightforward and clearly defined. However, the details of what was included never provided to us. For that matter you will never get to read in the website or in any brochure. Full Board and All Inclusive offers are very common packages across the globe. Such packages help travellers not to bother the costs of food and beverages during the travel. Though in reality high cost of All inclusive packages do not justify, people prefer such packages for psychological reasons. In several restaurants we were told that the package allowed a limited number of items per course, and additional dishes required extra charges. Whatever food offered is bare minimum and we realised that thousands of extra dollars we paid for Full board and All inclusive beverages package is complete waste. When we asked for clarification, the restaurant staff explained that the package details should have been explained by our butler. This created confusion during meals because we were often unsure what was included and what required additional payment. Beverages were also available only during specific hours and in specific locations and items in the minibar were not included. Villa Size and Condition: We stayed in an Ocean Pool Villa. The description on the resort website mentions a much larger total villa size, but the actual indoor living space felt significantly smaller than expected. As per the website size of this villa is 1400 Sq feet. In reality it is not even 500 square feet The villa itself felt relatively compact and somewhat old fashioned and the private pool was quite small. Also, the villa was surrounded largely by rock formations rather than open lagoon views, which made the experience different from what we expected from an ocean villa in the Maldives. Water Sports and Dive Centre: The resort partners with a small dive operator called Aquafanatics. The activity list includes various water sports, but does not offer that professional look. We went for nursing shark snorklling. We had to travel almost 40 minutes one way for the location. And barely 30 minutes Snorklling. Amount of money we paid is really crazy. Typical simple water activities, even kayaking is limited to a certain duration before additional charges apply. Snorklling gear offered by the dive centre is far below the professional standards you expect out of such resort Guests expecting many complimentary water activities may want to check the details carefully before booking. Pricing and Value: Our package was booked through "MakeMyTrip" in India, after reviewing the resort website and several travel videos. Given the price we paid, we expected a more seamless luxury experience. In hindsight, we felt that the overall value did not match the cost of the package. Final Thoughts: The Maldives itself is always magical, and the natural beauty of the islands remains extraordinary. Anantara Veli does have some positive aspects, particularly excellent restaurants and a very good spa. However, several elements of our stay, including the clarity of package inclusions, villa expectations and service coordination did not meet the level we normally associate with luxury Maldivian resorts. This review reflects our personal experience during a five-night stay and is shared so that future travellers can make well-informed decisions when planning their Maldives holiday.
